London Fight Fest #1 Tournament - MvC3/SSF4 *BONUS - MK9 ADDED* Sat, April 30, 2011

Really? I’ve done it on skrull, thor, cap.am (enough loops to kill them fully) and assumed it worked on most, I know it doesn’t work on Zero. A double jump also does the trick for getting out of UWT.

First place Mortal Kombat prize has been revealed!

It will not only consist of one prize, but TWO prizes!

Prize #1 will be a FragFX Wireless Evolution PC/PS3 Controller, valued at $80.00! Courtesy of Omega Collectibles.

Prize #2 will be a Creative Inspire A500 5.1 Speaker Set, valued at $80.00! Courtesy of MicroKool Computers.

So that’s $160.00 worth of prizes for 1st place winner over and above the cash prize!

Tournament is in less than 2 weeks…get hype!

Is it safe to say that if uj comes to this then it should be more entertaining than going to ufc in Toronto?

I’m hype! Can’t wait to see everyone in a few weeks.

Just a friendly reminder that if you have any special requests or would like to pre-order any games/accessories from us we can arrange to bring the product out for the 30th.

We have a HUGE selection of product and won’t be able to bring everything we carry to the event so get your requests in sooner than later.

Check us out at Omega Collectables

I’m hype for this! It looks like this tournament is shaping up to be a big success for London! I hope you guys latch on and help to continue building this with Mr Hibikster in the future!

I just picked up MK9 for 360 so I will be able to bring it.

Awesome thanks Jeff. I just added it to the spreadsheet.

I just updated Post #2 to contain the bracket organizers and the spreadsheet. We still need people to run the MK9. Any volunteers?

I can bring a 360 with MK9, MvC3, and SSFIV.

Problem is I might end up flopping from this (like 10% chance) so I would just count them as maybes for now.

thor and the good captain D:? lol asshole. this is what i get for showing you how dumb wolverine is

Hey I was the one who showed YOU! And what does that have to do w/ spideys loop?

Clarifying why PS3 isn’t used:

Just to clarify why all Canadian tournaments (and most US) use Xbox 360 instead of PS3.

It’s not because one looks better or plays better than the other, or anything to do with graphics/performance. The PS3 can’t be used in a tournament setting because it’s illegal to do so.

Sony does not allow the licensing of their consoles in Canada by 3rd parties for profit. I.E. Your not allowed to use their console to make profits or charge fee’s. The Xbox 360 however does have a license distributor in Canada for which you can obtain a license for use in tournaments or places of business.

Although this tournament seems a bit homegrown I doubt the organizer obtained any licensing, therefore you could probably just use a ps3 as well lol,

Ya I think Jed07 had said the same thing in a thread a long time ago, people still forget this for some reason.

I just went and checked out the venue again guys. Turns out we got two of the large rooms instead of one large room and 3 small rooms. So now we can set up all the stations in one single large room instead of being partitioned in 2 or 3. This will be much better for those who want to see all the action without having to be crammed in a small space. One of the rooms will still be dedicated for the dealer room so be sure to check that out as well.

Also, for those people who have committed to bringing equipment and/or helping with the event, can you please try and make it before noon so we can set everything up? I’m going to be there at around 9:00am to make sure everything is A-okay so you can come anytime after 9:00am. We want to make sure everything is running smoothly prior to the event starting.

If no one has volunteered to run MK9, then I will. At the least, I will show up earlier Saturday to get a look at the software so I don’t feel totally awkward clicking stuffs.

Perfect. Thanks Meljin. I will add your name to the list.

Also, I will be contacting each person on the list who committed to bringing some hardware so we can make sure everyone is in early enough for setting up the stations before the doors open.

Also…guys, if there’s any sort of gaming stuff you’re looking for, Hidey from Omega Collectibles has you covered. He has a full inventory of almost anything you can think of so if there’s a new game or item that you want, or that one rare game or item you’re having a hard time finding, chances are he’ll have it. He’ll be driving all the day down from Aurora Ontario so if you can let him know in advance that will be great. He’s going to be bringing a showcase of some of his products but if you can give him an idea as to what you may be looking for he can have a better idea on what to bring.

Either way, here is his site for a full list of what he carries: http://www.omegacollectables.com/

Thanks so much Ra’id! We’ll have a great selection of product on-hand for Saturday. Inventory is arriving daily so what’s reflected on the website can change. Don’t forget to check our eBay store as well at stores.ebay.ca/omega-collectables.

We just got in 2 pieces of Mad Catz Round 1 Tournament Sticks which are very very hard to get.

I’ll try to be there as early as possible.

Also as a side note, organizers should talk about standardizing on bracket seeding policies as well as what software they should using. Everytime I go to a tournament, people can’t figure out left from right no who should be placed where in a bracket and how the software works.

This is what I suggest and how I have done it in the past. I used ALJ Tournament maker. This software while basic is easy to use, allows for easy moving of matches around the bracket for manual fixing and is just plain easy. There’s no special bells and whistles like Tio Tournament organizer but it is far more efficient at getting things done provided you put a little brain into it.

As for bracket seeding, most organizers attend tournaments on a regular basis whether they are organizing it or not. What I used to do was keep track of all the tournaments throughout the given year and dole out points to the top 8 as each new tournament was completed. By no way was this an accurate way of showing top 8 but it gave a really clear picture on who roughly should be seeded in what spots. After a few tournaments you can clearly see who the top 16 contenders are and you can just seat the top 16 and then who ever else has won points. As for regional seeding, we know each other well enough to know who shouldn’t play each other in the first 2-3 rounds of a tournament. Debacles are bound to happen during a large tournament, but I have never had anyone push back once they see the brackets and realize there really is nowhere they can be placed elsewhere in the bracket.

Anyways that was my rant for the day. I hope maybe that can give some insight on how to improve the system. Of course this is contingent on organizers from different regions respecting each other enough to work together towards a bigger goal.

Yes with all the tournaments happening what Vince said is a must. I support ALJ tourney maker over TIO just because I find it easier. Seeding really should be standardized in some way or another…having a community “points” list would be a very good idea, but then there is an issue of someone attending more tourneys than someone else and possibly having more points. However though, I think that is something that just has to be that way. Think of it like the Evo qualifiers…doesn’t matter how good you are, if you don’t go to enough tournies to get those points then you arn’t gonna be seeded. It really is the only way to standardize things tbh (IF that is even needed). Really though most people don’t care much about actual seeding as much as regional seeding, and that is where brackets get difficult to make and the “debacles” can occur.

Also Meljin given the number of stations mk9/ssfIV will have 3 stations each…enough so that I can assist you with MK9 brackets. It really isn’t that hard to do though as you will see, especially since MK9 will have no seeded players.

Vince you have commentators yet or is it gonna be open mic? I’d love to commentate when possible especially when Waterloo players are playing lol

Hey ra’id

Good news: I got the PS2 to X360 converter in the mail

Bad news: I have to drive my bro to Toronto on Friday so neither of us will be attending.

Chris I’ll bring the adapter on Thursday to SAC if you want to use your American stick for the Tourney, Alvin if you do bring your 360 I wouldn’t mind testing out the adapter for lag/feel.

Dude you are the coolest person in the world.
