LoL (League of Legends) thread *UPDATED 12/10/2009*

Anyone here have any Karthas experience? Thinking about saving up for him and wanna know if it’s worth it

I’ve only played against him and never as him, but in my experience he seems like the worst caster in the game. Worse than pre-patch Mal.

imo.

He’s a spellcaster who does sustained damage instead of burst damage.

Which would be fine if he wasn’t made of paper and didn’t die 3 seconds into the team fight. His passive gives him some extra time to do damage after he dies, but it’s really buggy atm (it hides your mana bar, there is no way to know how much more time you have, if time runs out and you’re channeling Requiem it’s interrupted).

Probably considered the worst spellcaster in the game, but the ability to pick up kills/Mejai stacks from across the map with Requiem does give him some niche uses, and he can be quite a threat if he starts to snowball (imo he needs both Leviathan and Mejais to snowball) out of control.

Sleaz: what’s your IGN bro?

#1 Priority = server stability.

imo.

Worse than Malthazar?

I actually like Malzahar, even before today’s buff. Not that great in the laning phase and has mana troubles, but he’s surprisingly good at pushing turrets due to voidling, and his burst power in ganks isn’t too bad.

He does stutter a bit in teamfights due to the whole having to stun himself to stun someone else deal, but CotV does an assload of damage (it’s what, .8 scaling and AoE?) and I still consider him a notch above Karthus. Today’s buff is only going to make him better.

Servers are finally up. Lets play guys!

idk y did i have to enter UP DOWN LEFT RIGHT UP UP DOWN DOWN to get pass the launcher.whats that code bout anyways?

I’m loving this game, obsessing over it even (even if I don’t have enough time to play it often at the moment–but I will soon)!

My ID in LoL is: Chanchai

Also had a blast meeting up with some of the guys from Riot at PAX last week, awesome people and an amazing game

what heroes can you recommend buying under 4K?

I was thinking pantheon or mordekaiser but i thought its better if I ask you guys cause you guys have more knowledge.

so apparently a new map and hero coming.

New LoL Map and Hero!

Mordekaiser is pretty good, especially for 2v1 lanes when a teammate is jungling. Pantheon is really good early game and then falls off later unless you snowball like crazy. I would personally go Morgana for her sheer awesomeness, but if you are more interested in a melee character then I would go Mordekaiser.

imo.

KILLS DO NOT WIN MATCHES

I’m still “not very good” at the game, but I have to share this story and act like I know what I’m talking about.

Here are the stats of a match I had tonight (remember I’m only at level 14):

**Blue Team
Shen (me) 13 kills / 2 deaths / 8 assists
Kennen 13 kills / 11 deaths / 11 assists
Annie 4 kills / 7 deaths / 3 assists
Xin Zhao 8 kills / 3 deaths / 7 assists
Twitch 5 kills / 7 deaths / 9 assists

Red Team
Master Yi 0 kills / 7 deaths / 3 assists (don’t ask me what that’s about)
Tristana 15 kills / 4 deaths / 1 assist (definitely one of the good players)
Zil 3 kills / 8 deaths / 3 assists
Ryze 5 kills / 13 deaths / 3 assists
Annies 5 kills / 11 deaths / 5 assists**

So those are the kill/death/assist stats… Red Team won(!).

So what happened?

The kills on my part were mostly business as usual kills. I don’t try to go too far out of my way to kill enemy heroes. But in this game, I happened to get a lot of kills and assists (Shen should have a lot of assists). The enemy team’s players were not good at fighting (except for Tristana mainly and I’d also say Zil was pretty okay, not great but okay).

To be honest, half my team wasn’t the best at fighting either (and I don’t think I’m that great in general myself–though I outdid myself in this match).

But at some point, partly because I am getting a lot of kills and I am causing some havoc on the right side of the map and a bit in the middle–my team ends up having a very strong midgame. The early laning phase edged in our favor, but our midgame was dominating and I was apparently doing well.

The problem is, a strong midgame is not worth anything if you don’t take advantage of it and try to finish the match.

My team got greedy, they started chasing enemy heroes like crazy. I was trying to push. I would say that Xin was also trying to push at times too. But that was mainly it. The rest of our team were with us during the group fights, and then went chasing weak enemy players around the map to either get ganked or to let them know they could have 3-4 of their heroes push our towers.

Their team slowly took down towers. It was so subtle and slow over the course of the match that it was probably a complete surprise when an inhibitor went down.

Even by the end of the match, I’d say we had a strong level advantage.

So here are some tips I give to players out there in the low levels like me. I could be wrong, but this is what I currently think when I play the game:

**

  • You don’t win by killing. Kills help. You win by destroying the enemy base, it’s that simple.

  • If I’m chasing the enemy and I can’t picture myself taking him/her down in like 8 or 10 seconds, it’s not worth trying to kill them. The reasons will be listed in bullet points as well. To be honest, use 5 seconds–you have 5 seconds to kill them. It’s probably better to live by that.

  • When you chase an enemy, it’s likely you’re going to run into a gank.

  • Most of the time, harassing is good enough. If you’re chasing your opponent, it’s probably because their health is quite low. If their health is low, they will most likely be “out of the game” for a decent amount of time–the damage to their productivity has been done. You do not have to chase, you can go back to business which is making way towards destroying the base.

  • Here’s a tip on the opposite perspective: “it’s easier to gank someone you know is being too aggressive–especially if they are chasing your weakened teammate.” You should know your enemies will do this too.

  • Know yourself–just because a couple teammates are on a killing streak doesn’t mean you are. You should be more cautious if you’ve been dying. Your teammate’s kills will not wipe away your deaths.

  • Your goal is to destroy the enemy base. That is your goal! Use your character’s strengths towards that. Your kills should be working towards that goal (not against it).**

In any case, I found it to be an interesting case study… And for the record, I had a lot of fun in that match and felt the other team played well (not in combat, but in executing an endgame plan). At least at this level.

Also, brush (aka Tall Grass, aka Stealth Tiles) kick ass! I’m so glad Riot put them in the game. They are excellent tools for juking and ganking and they make some encounters very fun. It’s a fun feeling if 3 heroes are chasing you, you stop in the brush, right when they get to the brush you do a 180 and you see them still chasing after you in the distance. It’s another good feeling to know that someone is in the brush and you footsie them into exposing themselves (and kill them quickly, preferably with a teammate).

Thanks a lot for posting that! I’ve been pretty excited about the new PC Gamer issue. The guys at Riot told me to definitely check it out (they said it would detail the new map–and it does! Didn’t know it would detail a new hero too).

Here’s a PC Gamer Article talking about the content and showing what the Graphics Update will be like, coming soon:

League of Legends? incredible new art style! : PC Gamer

I read most of this. Sounds pretty true, and I too find myself being too aggro at times. Good points and I think a lot of people including myself forget the real objective.

Just got Sion, gonne practice with this bitch and see whats good.

I was on the floor rolling in tears and laughter watching this video! Thanks for sharing, that made my day  (I hope the author of the vid got banned/suspended for a bit for this, but this video certainly made my day).

the whole ‘games are not won by kills’ movement is pretty dumb IMO. Kills are ridiculously important, they put game in your favor while they are dead, you are getting exp and gold while the dead person/people are not, and late game it puts people out of the match for a loonnggg time, plus the extra gold that you get. Don’t get me wrong most of that is good it advice, but none of it is related to kills not being basically the most important factor in the game.

90% of the time there’s a team that won with less kills it’s not because ‘kills don’t matter and they won by strategically killing towers’ it’s because their team synergized better in team fight and team fights started late, they got kills that lasted longer because it was later in the game, and just pushed their base down while the opposing team was dead. It’s not that the kills didn’t matter, it’s that one team got more importantly timed kills.

Also am I the only who doesn’t really care if they ever have new maps? I’ve never really felt at all like my enjoyment to the game was related to the map at all, and I’ve never gotten bored of playing the current 5v5 map.

Anyone who’s a vet of DotA shouldn’t really care about a new map.
