In any case I’m down for Family Arcade tomorrow 5-7. Don’t think I’ll be spending anymore than $5 or $10 since $.75 is way pricey for sf4 but hopefully that’ll be enough to get some decent matches in.
Anyone other than me or super phami down to come? Even though it’s expensive the cab is veeeery nice and you gotta figure you will spend as much money on gas driving to denjin or AI anyway, so might as well keep it local.
I’ll be working at that time unfortunatly otherwise I would be down.

Imagine a strip club complete with low, mirrored ceilings and miami neon- replace the girls with sweaty dudes and 10 year old or more arcade cabs (SILENT SCOPE YOU GUYS, SERIOUSLY??) and some super thugged out kids abusing the Marvel2 cabs and you’ll start to get the vibe.
I went on a Friday night and sat around for over an hour. Played a Ken masher (who I suspect has never played before), and a scrubby abel. An older guy with a ponytail stood 1 foot almost directly behind me, watching me play through arcade mode twice. And 75 cents, wtf.

Buttons and sticks were functional, but were in bad shape. Met two friendly gamers, both very technical and skilled. One decent ryu/ken and another guy named Rob who mains Gief :love: and seconds Blanka. Some good light competition for a saturday late afternoon.
downside- expensive parking, the shirtless teenage boys who played the para/dance games within eye/earshot and their friends who take videos of them with their flips/mobile phones. Lots of anime ("
") fanclub type kids.
AI remains king of the ring, but since I don’t know combofiend personally or anyone else who wants to carpool from silverlake/los feliz, it’ll remain a once-every-six-months type thing for me. :sad:
If you guys aren’t weird we can get a casual going at somebody’s place, or at least carpool out to AI some weekend.
So, are the Marvel cabinets any good? Although I usually frequent FFA, I have work Downtown this Summer. The few times I went to Family Arcade across from LACC, the sticks were iffy at best. How’s this arcade for competition?
just went there today. good comp for marvel u got like 13 yr olds bustin combos, sf4 was good comp too everyone seemed to go there on their lunch break. marvel sticks were fine as well as sf4 sticks except since their korean buttons it was a lil akward. shit was fun tho

The comp is garbage… for every game… srly
marvel cab is quite small, 2nd player 2nd assist does not work.
I doubt they have fixed it since last time I was there
the kof XI set up is not bad, for those who play
sf4 being a very popular set up is checked every week, on tuesday mornings (most of the time)

I can show up at any of the LA arcades : the fullerton, Little tokyo or whatever, Denji aything Im here for a week and I wanna play some SF4 at some of these arcades.
ucla sf4, kofXII, 3s with the american setups are $.50. ultradavid i believe is going there this fall for grad school so he should be there a lot. i try to go everytime i come to LA to visit. cabs arent too bad, up in norcal san jose state and san francisco state have american setups too so im use to it.
Don’t know about a lot, gonna be working pretty hard in school, but yeah, I’ll be there.
If you just ask the person working at Japan Arcade, they will fix the buttons on the spot usually.
I work almost next door, so I always go there when I get off and on my break.
The main problem for me is that everyone who plays there is trash. I have the highest win streak on the machine (only 31 too) from the first time I ever used Blanka, people who play there are just trash.
Besides that, it’s a really neat arcade. Guitar Freaks and Drummania are great, and I don’t see them many places (Except at AI, but theres a group there that can almost perfect the hardest song in the game, so good luck not looking like an idiot.) They also have some neat older games, like Project Justice, KoF 2000 and 2002 (I think), a double machine KoF XI setup, Taiko no Tatsujin(sp?), some version of Street Fighter 2 in the old original cabinet, Puzzle Fighter, a Lupin III shooter, and a really cool shooter where you play as a cop and motion sensors control your character.
The owners don’t speak english too well, but they’re pretty nice guys.

Hope we can hook up for casuals soon. Anyway, about that arcade, I happened to visit over the weekend and that place left a very bad impression on me. Very poor maintenance of the machines by far. SFII Turbo was busted (none of the buttons on both sides worked so my friend and I bailed), KOF was busted (joystick was busted, execution of moves on both sides? forget about it) Cop Sensor Gun Game (dead on arrival), Strikers 1945 (no sound), SFIV (ugly setup).
Well, I won’t be coming back soon unless they fix their act. :arazz:
is this arcade the old hi-tech 21? if there is confirmed no lag im down to show up to play on the weekends with a few people. whoever responds to the “no-lag” comment, if you think AI doesnt lag, then your reply will be ignored lol. thanks guys, hope to get some ggs in. pz.
