List of Fighting Games (Modern and Classic)

Hey everybody! I have decided to make a list of all games considered “Fighting Games” and, to at least some degree, accepted by the FGC as viable games. When I mean a game is “viable”, I mean the system is unique and that particular game is worth recommending for some reason. As an example, you could mention TTT2 or even Tekken 6, but (unless there is one really strong older entry I don’t know about) mentioning older games in the series wouldn’t make much sense because generally the most recent games in the Tekken series are the only ones played at a high level and render the older games obsolete. For Street Fighter, however, you can list 2, 3, and 4 because each game still has a community to at least some extent.

Why am I doing this? Because I feel that having a grand list of good/legit fighting games can somewhat bring the community together and give people wanting to try out a new fighter a place to look.

For each game, I will need the following information: Publisher (Capcom, Namco, ect.), Title, and Systems (Arcade, 360, PS2, and so forth). If I miss anything, please feel free to chip in with some information! I really want to make an accurate list! I will devote the next two posts to “Modern” (Post/Around SF4) and “Classic” (Pre SF4). Enjoy!

Heh, have fun you’re going to be doing a lot of work. Look at the list I made in that was only between sf3 and sf4. I believe, 10 Years Gone was the name of it since I like to put up musical references every now and then.

Edit:
You might not want to count re-releases like the vampire collection on ps2 or Ressurection. Sure some of it is joking/trolling still a nice base. Stuff like Hyper SF2 and Vampire collections are more of dream match style of game.

Then there are Updated games like alpha 3. Which there was 3 versions of Orginal(CPS2), Upper(DC and Arcade), and Double Upper(PSP)

^ You also listed Spawn: In the Demon’s Hand as a fighting game…

Should I include doujin (probably misspelled) fighters on the list?

GGPO isn’t a service to buy the game just a Tech demo to show off ponder’s netcode.

List needs more Hokuto No Ken

Then what do I put for the system on GGPO games? Will PC suffice?

I intend to add some lesser known fighters on the list as time goes on. Just need to know if the games have enough of a playerbase and are competitive enough to be worth recommending to fighting game players that want to try out different games.

Arcade since ggpo is using FBA which is an arcade emulator.

sadly only the japanese still play Hokuto http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V3erJ4iEKOU

Should be HF and Super Turbo.

Actually, for Capcom games played in the US at least, your best resource is this.

Heh, it’s not HnK at TRF unless QMZ is there.

Certain games need their specific revision listed.

For example, 3rd Strike rev 990512 is the accepted tournament standard (and the build on which the PS2 and OE versions are supposed to be based on).

Here’s a list I had up a LONG time ago…

Please ignore scrubby comments within it. :stuck_out_tongue:

It’s a list, if nothing else. It’s a stupid list, but it still lists things.

Arc System Works: Persona 4 Arena (arcade, PS3, 360)

So much wrong with this post I don’t even know where to begin.

Fun Facts! with deadfrog

Did you know historians believe that the first fighting game was created over eight-and-a-half millennia ago? Fossil records indicate that children in the (then) newly-formed country of Spain would play a game called “El Duelo,” where two of them draw a line on the ground, stand at opposite ends from each other, and then throw rocks at each other until one of them steps off of the line! This game helped the children pass the time, form bonds, and vent their frustrations with early civilized life.

Please do tell. I really want to make a correct list with as much correct information as possible.
