Linking supers from normals in Super Turbo

I don’t know what it is, maybe it’s just the control in Hyper or something, but I can’t for the life of me link something as simple as Ryu’s super fireball from something like a c.mk or even short, short the damn thing. Are there any special tips for doing this? I’m able to link supers all over the place in the SFA, CvS, and SF3 but I come back to this game and it makes me feel like I’m a complete idiot. I don’t remember having any sort of trouble linking them when the game first debuted, so I’m wondering if it’s just Hyper’s controls, or if I’ve just grown so accustomed to how the newer games play that I can’t even go back after all these years. I’ve even tried negative edging the shit and the super still isn’t coming out.

Any advice? Tips? Thanks in advance, and sorry if this has been answered somewhere.

This thing with old-school, is that you have to cancel your move the INSTANT it touches the opponent… you also have to do the motion BEFORE you hit them.

Meaning:

you can’t do d.MK, then super real fast… instead you do:

:d::df::r::d:+:mk::df::r:+:p:

By doing it this way, you finish your super motion just as the d.MK hits them.

EDIT: oh yeah… you’re technically not “linking” the super. If you want to link a super, do d.MP, then super with Ken. It’s a joke.

Been doing the stuff left and right all last night now. Easy enough, it’s just doing a qcf followed by a regular c.mk xx fireball. I tip my hat to you, kind sir.

I was doing that in alpha before but one thing bugs me: you said you had to do it ON HIT, how can you hit confirm on a single hit? Wasting supers is not fun.

^That’s kinda why the only super you see comboed much is Ken’s.

you don’t hit confirm c. forwards into supers in ST. Unless they’re preceded by a jump-in.
