Ling Xiaoyu Thread

Hm, I just found a new thing with Xiaoyu. I don’t know if it’s new to you all, but here goes.
Apparently, after you do a cr. HP, you can cancel it into Phoenix, and then cancel the Phoenix into a ABC series into EX Fortune Cookie, which can lead to either wall combos or midscreen combos. It requires extreme precision for it. I’m sure most don’t know what the hell I’m spouting, so I’m gonna get a video up about it tomorrow if I have time to show what I mean.

So what’s the most we could get froma hit confirm and one bar?

Yes, you can do that, but the thing is, when I tried doing any cancels into ABC, the timing was quite strict, and it would generally be easier to just do cr.:hp: xx Fortune Cookie and then do her Bnb, because it would not only save you a bar, but her bnb can also bring them quite far, perhaps to the corner, not always. If not, you can do a midscreen combo after the wave crest.

Well, generally you would hit confirm her :lp: strings, but you can hit confirm other things. Honestly, I don’t think Xiaoyu really needs a bar, but if I had to guess the damage you would probably get would be somewhere around 350-450, that seems to be her damage range for most combos.

If Xiao had a 3frame normal and AOP was 0 frames so she could use talon as a viable reversal she would be godlike, one can only dream v.v

Aw, darn. I thought it super secret stuff I knew about after messing around for an hour on training mode. Oh well, at least it’s material for a new combo video I’m working on.

That would definitely get patched out from whiners lol…if only though…if only.

Got a question if you do the shortcut talon does anyone know how much of the start up frames of AOP gets cut?

Follow up question: The hell is AOP? Damn fighting game language. ><

Her phoenix stance.

So, why not just call it…never mind. I shouldn’t question the fighting game lingo. One of the reasons why I’ll never understand what half of you guys are saying. ^^;
Anyway, thanks for the response.

AOP means Art of Phoenix which is the name of the Phoenix Stance in the Tekken games. Rain Dance has the same name in both this game and in Tekken.

Most of the lingo is pretty straightforward, especially abbreviations. The only abbreviation I’ve seen so far that has been confusing have been all the iterations of describing when you perform your character’s charge move and cancel it with a dash. Most people use CADC (since its the most similar to SF4’s FADC and serves a similar purpose) but I’ve seen all sorts of other wacky abbreviations like SDC and SCDC and CDC… I think I’m missing a few too.

Granted if you didn’t know much about Xiaoyu you’d probably not understand AOP but on some study I’m sure you’d figure it out.

tbh though this is the kind of character that gets buffed in ways for no apparent reason

also i hit somebody with ex map sweep and was able to connect a standing jab after dont the frame data say this is impisble?

I use meter on xiaoyu for

1- ex shooting star to absolutely wreck any fireball / charge spamming characters
2- baiting reversals with the armor on EX turn of fortune
3- tagging.

I don’t see a use for the rest of her ex moves, if I can waste meter on ex fortune cookie I might as well tag. Back layout is a terrible (and unsafe, even in EX) move. Only exception is cross up on wake because it is ridiculously hard to react to if you’re not expecting it.

That is indeed possible, Xiaoyu technically has an infinite in Pandora since you have unlimited bar by doing ABC xx EX Fortune Cookie, EX Turn of Fortune, EX Map Sweep, repeat from beginning. There was a video on that infinite somewhere, it came out days after SFxT’s release. However, Idk if I would use a whole bar just for EX Mal Sweep.

There is a much easier version of this that only has a single one frame link but I don’t remember what the notation is.

I think that most of her damage could come from
cr.HP into ex fortune cookie (qcf+PP) to breakdance.
I also use the same thing out of hit confirm lp. (more damage then switching with boost, then switching back with tag for breakdance)

My friend who plays Ling too showed me you can even go for cr.hp AOP cancel cr.HP into whatever.

off two bars, the best i found was:
cr.hp (or s.mp for more range) AOP KK (EX) tag the first or second hit, (Jin) natural j.rh cr.hp boost, (ling) breakdance. for around 550 damage.

I do it with Jin, but I guess it can work with almost any other cast member.

The breakdance loop is annoying as fuck… one minute I’m able to land the six reps 9 times out of 10, then I take a 30 minute break and I can barely do one rep.

It’s like my fingers forget the timing. Is there a specific timing for the AOP cancel? Like, you gotta wait a tiny bit before inputing d/b+PPP? And do you guys use any visual cues?

The max I’ve done is three. I figured going past that is just too much for me. I haven’t established a rhythm for it yet, seeing as though I’m still trying to pull it off, but I’m getting there. Like you, I mess up on the timing, but I guess what could work is think of it like a rhythm. After the lift, you can imagine the pose-cancel-kick as a one-twothree thing, but I don’t know. I’m ramblin’.

One good use I found for her ex turn of fortune move is to counter Zangief’s lariat. It will absorb a hit and then hit him and you can start a combo off it. I haven’t tried, but I think her ex shooting start should be good for dealing with a hugo charging lariat.

I’m really surprised at the lack of people playing Xaiyou online. I guess most are too turned off by the technical requirements of her stances, even though they’re not really that bad. Unfortunately I just can’t bring myself to play her anymore. I absolutely hate the feeling of doing her breakdance combo. I hate that the most damaging meterless punish in this game is a braindead uncreative repeat of cr. hk. I really hope they patch that out and buff her in some other way to make up for it, because I truly enjoyed her otherwise.
