Lili Match up Guide

So what are bad matchups for Lili?

I’m thinking Gief, Akuma and Julia.

Heihachi with speed gems. Add that to the list too.

Maybe it’s just me but I’ve always thought that the Lili Akuma match-up was even in my opinion as it all depends on who has the most meter to begin with.

Then again with his Raging Demon shutting down most of your options + your 900 health and his runaway, then yeah it could be a pain to deal with.

But on the other hand you have the damage advantage against him at least mid-screen that is. The corner is the other way around though…

If anyone wants, I can break it down for you guys in more depth :).

And sorry but I have to mention this but LOL @ Hei with speed gems on. Those pretty much negate his main weakness which is his mobility.

Your only hope against a Heihachi with speed gems is to hope that either the player messes up the timings of their jump-ins with the increased speed boost or know that he has sacrificed the opportunity to play another play-style by using a Power Gem or another gem type.

The speed of his attacks doesn’t change though as you know it’s just the fact that he jumps in so quickly that’s the problem. I think st.:mk: can help you out against those jump-ins well.

There also is the option to just run the hell away from him and make the gem run out. But 15-20 to keep Hei out with speed gems on is a little challenging in my opinion

Trust me it’s EXTREMELY challenging to run away with Lili when Heihachi has 3 speed gems glowing at once. You basically are stuck just blocking the entire time and pray you have good enough reflexes to AC his garbage he throws at you.

Akuma is definitely in his favor since his mobility is much better than yours. Lili has “canned” mobility options and those are shutdown by Cr. :hk: which cannot be punished on block by Lili. He can literally abuse that all day without any consequence. His ability to change his jump arc by using late air fireballs or dive kicks can prove tricky as well since Lili’s AA’s are not fully invincible. Long story short Lili has to take quite a few stupid risks in order to get in on Akuma and even once she’s in she has to worry about reversal DP’s if she screws up anything.

I think gief is 6-4 against lili. Reasons why are his command throw range and lariat. If he didn’t have those two moves the match up would be in lili’s favor. He’s just got better footsies atm and this is the only time where lili’s slow walk speed dooms her.
Akuma i think is in Lili’s favor. My risk out weighs akuma’s reward. Once she gets one meter akuma’s option begin to become limited. Rabbit to rabbit foot closes the gap and you could even use ex angel knee to go past the fireball and anti air a jump back akuma using fireball. She can literally kill him in two mix ups and i’ve done this countless of times.
Julia is a pain. An average Lili player will get bullied by Julia’s back dash and mix up. But i’ll be honest it’s 4.5-5.5 and there is a slight favor for Julia. She’s just got more hp and more mix up than lili. Lili can do more damage but that means getting in Lili’s sweet spot which is hard with the current cr.lk range.

oh and lili mirror is not in lili’s favor lol XD she fucks up and stops a lot of her mix ups. Counter rapes lili’s options.

This I can agree with to an extent. 1 Bar against Akuma as Lili is pretty massive in my opinion plus the idea of the fact that you can kill him very quickly should you gain your momentum.

On the other hand 1 bar for him is also pretty big as his DP can lead to some good damage on you considering that he can DP through EX Sunflower Lance, EX Den and Pretty much DP through all of the follow-ups off of Feisty Rabbit if done as a means of getting in on him which is made a pain if his partner can bring him back in.

Although if he has 2 of them stocked, unless you haven’t lost a good portion of your life. Attacking him with anything but standard Left-Right Combo, stuff like cr./st.:lk: or st.:mp:, f.:mk: will spell doom because of that Demon. :wasted:

In my opinion, it’s a battle of attrition between both of them. And pretty much it’s the idea of you keeping your meter stocks high so that you can shut him down should he try to play the zoning game with you as well as mix him up hard-core! To get him scared into pressing buttons.

No Bar Akuma VS 3 Bar Stocked Lili is an uphill battle for Akuma in my opinion.

EDIT: Oh yeah and the mirror match can be pretty rough at times as well. Haven’t been in much apart from playing with Songi’s Lili but I strangely enjoyed it for some weird reason o_O.

Play OZleon’s Akuma, that’s really all I can say. He has solid fundamentals and spacing. He knows his character inside and out so he would probably be the best test of how it really is.

i’d like to play him one day but different consoles =
I’ve played some strong akumas so i wouldn’t mind playing more =D

My shameful secret of playing Lili comes out here, BUT only here, never betraying Asuka Army.

How do you guys handle Ryu?

Don’t worry about it  I’m still keeping my loyalty to the like 3 to 4 Akuma players out there

Treat every Ryu player you come across with a blank note-book in your mind. Forget every pre-conception about him that a lot of people tend to say like ‘Ryu is for scrubs’ or ‘he’s easy mode’ or even sometimes slack off because he can still take the match from you if you aren’t careful.

Generally I tend to play to his footsies since I’m quite a footsie oriented player, I whiff punish his cr.:mk: with either Lili’s cr.:mp: or her f :mk: into full combo. But I know in theory this isn’t the greatest idea in the world to most.

Raw launching his normals is a good idea whilst he is pressuring you since most of his best normals are crouching attacks.

Generally I tend to rely on my partner, Akuma, to bring Lili close to Ryu because that’s where she excels the most against him and you can do the same as well with your partners. Uppercutting for Ryu is extremely risky so pressuring him whilst he has no meter is a good place to start. Whilst he does have meter, beware of him DPing through your block-strings.

The goal here is to get Ryu scared into pressing buttons or just mashing uppercut against you which you can somewhat apply to other shotos as well. From here you can scare him even more by using your overheads: :f: + :hk: and some block-strings into EX Sunflower Lance to really press his buttons…

DP Switch from Ryu is punishable by st.:lp:/cr.:lp: into whatever you want from there. You could also raw launcher as well I think.

Then there is also the standard stuff like ducking under his tatsumaki then punishing him with Andante on whiff. Using EX Knee or any other invincible move like EX Rabbit through his Joudan Strings or straight up punishing the Joudan on block with a cr.:mk: into a solo combo or launcher.

if you have meter dare him to srk, but also check if he doesn’t have meter cause his ex srk will be your ex angel knee.

Gosh i guess i should write this one up. It’s a common Lili problem but its a winnable match up for either side.

I think it’s just the idea that Ryu is so solid and the fact that he can be played really safe if used in the right hands. It’s more a mental game vs Ryu more than anything in my opinion.

But I’ll be looking forward to that write-up of yours. I want to see if we are on the same wavelength or I’m just talking out of thin air.
