Light-up on activation button mod tutorial

is there video how to mod led like everything together in madcatz te ps3 stick?

u can probably find one on a thread or youtube

So I just ordered the FGW. If you are using 8 buttons plus a stick the only options you have a light up on touch correct? Im referring back to this video, my understanding is you cannot do fading, rolls etc with a stick and 8 button combo, you can only have buttons light up upon press down:

That’s incorrect. All of the modes are available in a 8+stick configuration.

Oh that’s cool. Its a bit confusing with the ball top part. Hopefully someone posts a tutorial on that soon.

maybe someone can help me out. i’m in the planning stages of doing a knsert + fgw led controller on a hori vx-sa. 6 button (sanwa obsc) + start for a 7 button setup.

  1. will the knsert fit in a 24mm button (sanwa obsc)?
  2. if yes, how would i wire up the start button to be part of the led rotation? wire it up as 4P on the led board?
  3. if yes to 2, then i would need to have a physical 4K button so i can turn on 8 play buttons in configuration mode, correct? so i should buy 8 knserts?

is this all correct, or is there another way i can go about this?

The FGW LED controller wasn’t programmed to have the start button as part of the cylon rotation. Trying to include it would be hacky at best.
I’f heard a rumor that the KNserts can be shaved down a little to work in a 24mm OSBC, but I’ve never seen it personally nor tried it. I definitely can’t support it. If you can make it work, awesome, but please go into it knowing you’re taking a $3 gamble.

The proper way to setup the six play buttons and start would be to leave the play buttons in 6 button mode, and turn on the ‘3 extra buttons’ mode and wire the Start signal and Start LED to one of those. The LED wont be part of the rotation, and I dont think it would be part of the ripple, but it should have a light on press or fading effect just fine.

^^ thanks for the quick response.

another question, in the welcome doc, to turn on the 3 additional buttons, i need to press R_IN + L_IN. if i wire up Start button to R_IN i would still need to wire up an additional button for L_IN, correct?

so i would need 8 knserts? or is there another way to turn on the 3 buttons in config menu with just the 6 face buttons + start?

Hoping to get some help here. I recently received a case from a friend, and the case was drilled with a DPDT switch for an older style dual mod. I want to reuse this switch with a simple led mod (just button activation light up, hex inverter and resistors), all while drawing power from a Paewang PCB. I couldn’t gather what lines to solder to the SPST, so I was hoping someone here would be able to walk me through that. Thanks!

Oh and since I’m using the 5v, does that change any of the parts I’d have to buy on the original post?

It works…but I dont reccomend it to anyone not good with dremeling and soldering… You have to grind it down a bit… Then remove and re-solder the led’s closer to the center of the knsert…small adjustment to the plunger piece of the button with a dremel…then you are good to go…

yeah, that was me actually,

i never took pictures of the KN inside the 24, just only said i did

picture of it is here

anybody know what the inside size of the Link shaft is, to put a piece of acrylic tube to make it light up.

I looked through this thread and couldn’t find the answer to this, so apologies if it’s been asked before.

Is it possible to combine an FG Widget LED controller with an older style LED mod to get all the buttons on a Hitbox (8+4 directional buttons) to light up on activation? I know the directional buttons wouldn’t have the same features as the ones hooked up to the LED controller board.

I’m thinking I could use the diagram on the first post and make a small board that would piggyback off of the ground and voltage to power those LEDs.

Possible? Anyone tried it, or are there other options for Hitbox users?

Absolutely. Hook up the eight play buttons (and the three additional control buttons, Start, Select, Home, if desired) to the FGW LED controller. You should also be able to do the standard (power)—(resistor)—(LED)—(directional signal) for the four direction buttons.

If you want to be really classy about it and use an SOCD cleaner, hook up the LEDs to the output (‘to pcb’ side) instead of the signals on the buttons themselves. The LEDs that light up will show the cleaned directions sent to the control board.

Now that’s bloody brilliant! I’m dual modding this Hitbox, so I’ll be using that SOCD cleaner board. Thanks for the help!

I did that to my personal stickless case but I had only 6 buttons instead of 8… Do the way with the SOCD cleaner it works a lot better…

Okay, I have ANOTHER issue concerning LED mods, this time for a different stick. If I have the directions wired from the MC Cthulhu into the FG Widget LED Controller, the stick lights up on all four directions, but down registers on PC as both up and down. Left and right function normally. If I remove the cables for up and down, then up and down both function normally. Continuity tests showed nothing beyond what should be normal wiring.

Any ideas?

It is the Resistors that come with the FGWidget LED Controller you got.
Toodles gave you wrong one, the smaller one.

Haha same thing happened to me the other day. The yellow six pin resistor toodles sent fixes that.
