Light-up on activation button mod tutorial

My buddy and I ended up figuring it out, I wasn’t aware that only one terminal was needed, thank you for your help with this project, and thanks again for your work on this board! I’m a happy camper indeed. I’ll post up pre and post new artwork pics soon.

The other LED thread is kinda dead, and I don’t want this question to go overlooked. Thanks to anyone who can offer assistance.

So I have the LED FGWidget connected with my PS360 and all 30mm PS-KN-14 buttons, but I have a problem with my start and select buttons (non-LED, on the Mad Catz SE). THEY SIMPLY WON’T ACTIVATE. I even connected the grounds from start and select separately from the the common grounds of the buttons and LEDs. Is there a solution for this?

Here’s a vid of the stick in action. I am still waiting on custom artwork from my buddy. Will post up pics after things are completed.

Love to see the install on that. Are those buttons from GGG?

So if I’m understanding right, you’re asking why the Start and Back pushbuttons that come with the SE don’t seem to be activating Start or Select on the PS360 board. Have you tried one of the threads dealing with the PS360?

That’s pretty pimp, good job.

Not yet, but I still had the same problem even when I had an Xbox 360 Fightpad traditionally dual-modded with the PS3 SE PCB (still concerning the same stick being modded), so I doubt the PS360 is the problem. My only use for the PS3 SE PCB right now is to use the Home and Turbo buttons on the panel, which have already been wired up to the PS360 PCB, as well as the Power and ground between all the LED FGWidget, PS3 SE PCB, and PS360 PCB…

I’m just thinking that you’d have better luck asking PS360 users than MadCatz.

Not sure if this was directed towards me, but lets just say it took a lot of (dremel-less…ugh) plastic removal to fit those buttons in a TE! I got em from http://www.ultimarc.com/ultralux.html, got the translucent ones with single color LED. I didn’t shoot video if the install, but I did take some pics, nothing too groundbreaking though.

Thanks man!

Yep, I thought they looked familiar. A bit shorter than your standard happ/iL buttons. Good to see they fit with some effort.

FGwidget questions

  1. Is there any way to change the timing of the screensaver or cut the screensaver off while the stick is plugged in?
  2. Is there any way to tuen the LEDs off when they are activated other than unplugging the stick and setting it to tournament mode?

I’m pretty sure both questions are no, but in case I missed something in the welcome sheet I figured I’d ask. I got mine wired up and working with no problem the other night. Pictures forthcoming. So very thankful 3mm screw terminals fit. Made this installation much easier.

And I agree with rtdzign. Those Rollie pearls look great with LED lights. Just wish the tabs on them were a wee bit stronger; I think I snapped half of them off…

  1. Adjusting the brightness also adjust the screensaver speed. Low brightness=uber fast SS. If you want the screen saver off, turn it off in the setup menu.
  2. Setup menu, adjust brightness all of the way down.

I’m looking for some LEDs to complement my KNserts on my stick, but I keep finding different measures of brightness depending on where I go. What rating are the KNserts, and where could I find similarly powered LEDs?

Figured the screensaver could be cut off, but didn’t have the sheet with me at work and only did a quick test once I was done. Didn’t think about dimming the lights, but that works.

Forward voltage of 3.2v, and just over 2cd (2000mcd) at 20mA. If you’ll looking for an LED to use with a hollow shaft, this 3mm LED should be twice as bright and is really cheap:
Digi-Key - 160-1782-ND (Manufacturer - LTW-420D7)
and this one should be about the same brightness but kinda spendy:
Digi-Key - 160-1727-5-ND (Manufacturer - LTW-420C5)

what size of led to do u need for a buble top and what brightness do you all recondmend

toodles has your back on that, it’s 3mm

what size of wire do you recondmend for a led mod… awg size, and whats better for toodles set up solid or stranded wire, and what sizo of wire will you use on a regular set up

I was wondering if there’s a way to add basic one color LEDs to Seimitsu buttons without any special board and no fancy lighting patterns. I have a TE stick with a ps360 pcb in it.

see first post in this thread. it has all the information you will need.

So I guess the answer is no. Looks like i have a lot more reading to do then.
