Let's Talk Beards - The Facial Hair Thread

I don’t think the grey looks bad at all, I’d keep it personally. But the wife’s opinion is the one that matters. If she thinks you should dye it, go for it. If turning 30 is getting you kind of down I’d give it a shot just to see if it makes you feel any better about it.

Still, I think it’s a good look for you as is. It’s a light sprinkle and a nice color contrast. It’s less “old” grey and more “well seasoned” grey.

I will take a pic of my beard today, with my busted ass iphone. Chinstrap looks like ass, as my normal clippers busted on me. But the blond awesomeness is there.

wtf youre not really a baby?!

I’ve never completely shaven my face, and I never will. I’ve had just the mustache, goatee, and side burns before, but right now I have the full beard.

I trim it if I have to go on a job interview, but other than that, I just let it grow out. It really fits with my dreadlocks, some of which have grown past my ass. Besides, I’d really hate it if I had to get up and shave every morning. I’ve neither the time nor the desire to do so. I get up, put on my clothes, throw my dreadlocks back, and I’m out the door.

I used to be really lazy about shaving in the mornings since I have to be up at 6am and make a half hour drive from Cincinnati down into Kentucky for work. The girlfriend, knowing me, played to my sensibilities to motivate me to kill the neckbeard. Knowing I’m always in the mirror checking myself out and always gotta use new gadgets, she bought this slick heated mirror that connects to the shower head with this snake like neck to it. Feeds water down the neck to keep the mirror from fogging up. Also has a little lever on it to turn the water flow to the mirror on/off. Really nice investment and also reminds my morning zombie self that I need to shave every time I see it.

I always thought it better to shave before you take a shower. The heat makes you swell a bit. So after you cool off your face goes back to normal and you have stubble again.

Im like Naslectronical up there. Ive been wearing a mustache and goatee since like '92. I started wearing a beard around 2005.

She cares more about me being smooth at this point. She hated the gray hairs at first when it was on or two…now she feels “She’s lost the battle” as its too many for her to pluck. She says she doesn’t care anymore, but I can’t help but wonder if she would like it dark again.

Just get yourself a pair of tweezers and pluck them out. It’s not a lot from what I can see. I think the dye is unnecessary for that amount of gray hair.

Lol yeah sounds like she would. I don’t pretend to know how women think, but that to me reads as she’d be happy if you dye it. I’d try it out, see how you both like it.

Razors give me bad ingrowns. I haven’t used a razor in a long, long time. Since I’m black, I like to damp my face with hot water before I shave so that surface hairs are more smooth and won’t grow underneath the skin (that’s what causes ingrowns). But I got lazy and now I just let my barber edge me up.

Sometimes I will let my beard grow out though, but then I’ll look like a caveman and that ain’t good for the ladies. Beards are great, but they’re too much to tame and can mess your face up if you are not careful.

Hell, The Wife says she thinks I’ll look handsome with silver hair/salt and pepper hair. Even if she said otherwise I wouldnt die it. Dying hair is for women.

p.s. You know what they say, you pluck one gray hair 3 will replace it.

That’s why the box says “Just for Men” so we feel better about it. DONT RUIN THAT.

HAIL HYDRA :woot:

We used to pluck them, but it really IS alot of it all over the place, but because I just trimmed and I’m outside they don’t stand out as much. My grey hairs have a different texture and grow ‘straight’ so they…yeah…there are more there haha

That is a chunky beard  . My girlfriend begged me to trim the fireball over the weekend. I’ll admit, it does look better close and neat, and most likely increases my vagina:hand ratio. Pics later.

My wife gets mad at me if I suggest shaving. Well, not mad, but explains how I look like my actual age when I have a beard. I’m 33 and look 12 if I shave…I’m at work, so I can’t post a picture of said beard.

I do like not shaving all the time, but trimming takes so much more effort…but looking my age is more than worth it…

Same os OP: Dark brown hair with red beard. I treasure my beard.

Used to have a pretty gnarly one, but I didn’t maintenance it as much. Wish I did.

Now I keep it fairly trimmed, mostly around the neck. I like to brush it forward.

Beards are glorious. I’ve had one since I could grow it, and never plan to shave it off.

I have a 3-4 inch long beard mostly for religious reasons and I’ve actually grown fond of it over the years. But the longer it grows, the crazier it gets. Anyone have any advice on upkeep?

I’ve been told recently bees wax is awesome for beard conditioning and styling, but have not tried it myself.

So what is the best way to trim your beard?
I haven’t tried anything yet, but now that I’m growing it out I would like to make myself look a lot neater.

Here’s me

This pic was taken sometime ago (sorry for the black and white, we still in the 80s here in Austin) and my beard has grown quite a bit.
I’m shaving off the hair from my cheeks, and getting rid of the mustache, while leaving everything else there. However, my hairs stick out all over the place, and I don’t really like that.
