Let's talk about money - The Finance Thread

Need some advice. I’m possibly looking at a part time gig as a PM/Scheduler or consulting gig (they approached me and we are talking). I have no clue how I should handle the pricing for this matter, any suggestions?

Guys, I think you should look at buying Nintendo stock. Pessimism is very high in the company right now, and that’s when you want to take advantage. Sales are down 60% over last year, there’s nothing interesting in the coming product mix, which means you can get an awesome price. I’ve been following it for some time now, and it’s down about 4% even from where it sold the last time the Japanese stock market crashed.

As a company, Nintendo has great profit margins, and you will not get it for this price when the next wave of good news hits for the industry. The tick is NTDOY.PK.

Yay, my customer base is expanding. I need more money though to expand my operation. I’m stuck in a situation where it takes me too long to get my work completed, because I need better tools to get the quality in a quicker time frame, but I don’t have the money to a) buy the tools and b) rent the space necessary. Not asking for advice just needed to write this down somewhere.

Bad move. Right now is still not the time to be purchasing Nintendo stock. If you read all the news on Nintendo, you will see there really is not anything to boost the company stock on the horizon. What you could be spending on Nintendo, I would instead invest it on GE stock and get double the stock amount and a guaranteed rise in its value, seeing as how GE pretty much hit rock bottom a few months back. I would even say do a short term Ford and once the CARS program is over, dump it.

Just paid off my car (YAH!) so i’m throwing my car payment into my savings. Still trying to get 6 months of bills into savings in case something happens with our jobs; then cut the savings in half so we can buy stuff for our house.

Still using ED as our primary savings, I forgot the % of APR, but its helping out.

Just picked up some PCS stocks last Friday due to bad news effect. I’m in @8.73 and its up 25 cents+ already today so far… gogogo $$$ :lovin::lovin:.

Regarding GE: I’m actually shock that it hasn’t hit 11 yet due to that recent bad news regarding their accounting practice. I’m planning to get in it once it hit 11 again. Patience is a virtue

Damn, I’m so jealous - I’m hoping to pay off my car by next year - my lease will be up by then and I’l probably go from living with roommates to living alone. I’d like to buy property as soon as possible, but the prices here in Montgomery County are mind-boggling.

GE will never hit 11 just on the news of its accounting practices, especially since they took the time to clean up the accounting branch.

turning a bad situation into an opportunity to restructure only helps a company.

Oh, I know the prices in MoCo…Crazy, INSANE! Thats the number 1 reason I moved from DMV to NC; money is worth more down here and can stretch further than in the DC area.

Bad thing about paying off your car is that your always looking at what your next ride will be…lol, I need to stop it:rofl:

Really, I’m gonna drive this thing into the ground - but I completely understand - sometimes I catch myself looking at what I’d buy next.

I still got two years till mine is fully paid off. Once my credit is 100% clear (counting down to March 7th smiles) I’ll be focused on killing the car payments as my car hits me HARD…so it will be a little bit less than two years. I keep looking at the ‘next’ ride too, but everythign I want is essentailly too similar in principle - thus I’m not getting it (a Jeep…a M-Class…even a Maxima…all the same milage, nothing new gained in ability).

For you, you could always go bigger for ‘carrying shit’ reasons…but with me a Sedan would be a downgrade in size and the milage would be almost the same (I get 22+ average, up to 25 high way). Nothing that beats that wil lbe comfortable for my big ass lol.

Unreal: What do you drive?

05 Nissan Murano…aka the Maxima on stilts…not even that…like platform shoes…

I got a great price on the car, but got ripped off from newbness on financing. $633 c-note for a $26K car (roughly 6 year payment).

OUCH!!!

My car note is ~$600 a month for my G-35 which would have been the same had i gone the fx-35 route. Anyways, im finished with paying my car off in 1 year and after insurance, maintenance, and car payments, BUYING A NEW CAR SUCKS!!! I do not struggle to pay my vehicle but im like damn, this money could be used on other stuff.

Yeah, I don’t think I’m going that route when I buy a new car. Money doesn’t go as far here in the DC area, and if I stay I’m going to try my hardest to work toward property ASAP; probably at the sacrifice of a luxury car.

Same, I need a garage to do my side business in and money for tools, getting something luxury will delay that and I’m already 27 - I dont’ have time to waste. Living in the DMV sux, but I havne’t been thrilled about any of the other places I’ve been that I thought about moving to…there just isn’t a Unrealtopia  I want the NY social life, with down souf cost of livin, and still on the EC. so I’m ltierally parked ‘in the middle’.

  • :bluu:

It’s that bad? Other than the cost of living, I love the social life here. I feel like paying for NYC living would actually be much worse. Being where I am, I can always visit for a weekend and roll back here.

if you got a clunker eligible car hyundais are really the best bet.

here you can walk out with a brand new hyundai, 33 mpg for under 5k with cash for clunkers discount.

nowadays cars can easily go 100k with no big trouble and there’s so many cheap ones you can find one that looks nice.

I loved DMV until I came to the souf…IMO its just easier living. People don’t rush around as much here and everyone is nice. My boy who came down was talking about how he went to Food Lion and had a 5 minute convo with the bag lady…For no reason…:rofl:

Also, down here has parties, i’m just not into all that (if i’m not getting money for it, screw it) :looney:

Most of my friends have moved away. And maybe its work but I just don’t ‘meet’ new people anymore. I don’t bump into people or anything. The people I bump into are selling me groceries and look 16. I just feel out of place age wise…too old for the young folks and too young for the old folks. So socially I just don’t like it here. Its worse when you factor in music. I’d love to live the …for lack of better term…“Sex In The City” type thing with several friends that go to clubs and new nightspots etc etc all the time.

Financially where I work is just a effing rip off but I’m already typecast in the construction industry with no way out with such a horrid economy. My job searches have been coming up extremly dry…hell I don’t even know what I want to do for a 40 hour work week anymore. I effing hate computers now, but they are what I’m good with…but I refuse to do anythign network/IT/Programming/help desk for them either. Being a PM is boring and redundant. Being a power engineer is ‘easy’. Need to find a way to make my worth and be at least a little content at work (something I don’t think possible anymore).

Go down souf, and I like the people more, but I’m compeltley out of place and feel disconnected. Go up north and the cost of living gets WORSE  Nothing West for me heh. So its DMV until God sends me elsewhere.
