Remember to crouch tech. f+MP is one of your best friends, as it gives you frame advantage on block. Mix up how you play defense. EX Zonk, EX CU, cr.MK, etc. Personally I really feel like Cody’s backdash is hella underrated. It’s not particularly good, but if you do get hit out of it, you will air reset which will give you some breathing room.

A quick question for me: does Cody have a neutral jumping attack that can hit behind him? Occasionally someone will dash under and I feel like something should be able to hit them if they’re right beneath (albeit slightly behind) me.

No, Cody has no neutral jump that hits behind him. Closest you can get is nj.HP which will hit directly below him but not behind.

As for the backdash, actually the airborne frames on the backdash is one of the main reasons Cody’s backdash is actually really bad not just slow/short range. It has the least airborne frames of any backdash in the game. Cody’s backdash looks like this:

0F-8F invincible
4F-13F: airborne
14F-27F: Grounded

Compared to say Ryu:
0-8F: invincible
8-17F: airborne
18-27F: grounded.

So even though Ryu’s is the same speed, and only a tiny bit farther distance traveled it has 4F more airborne frames which makes it much harder to get a full punish.

^ Cody has a terrible back dash. I don’t know how anyone could call it underrated. You can’t even back dash safely from an SPD half the time.

The only problem I have with it is the few frames of extra recovery that shouldn’t be there, otherwise it’s fine imo. Probably not the best idea to backdash an SPD when you can just jump. Regardless, it’s a tool he can use, even if it isn’t perfect.

AFAIK the only really good Cody rep at EVO is Harrison or @GrabMasterFlex (I dunno if he is going though) and not to hate on EITHER of them as they got some really good shit, but Momochi is on a whole 'nother level with his Cody. Him and Sasaki are bonkers.

Oh well… I wish him the best then, his Ken is also godlike.

His performance at CEO was pretty good, I guess that’s one of the incentive for why he’s decided to stay with Ken.

Yeah that wasn’t streamed, in fact not just the Cody stuff, but most of the good matches during quarter finals happened offstream… which was a bit frustrating for me. There was many hype matches I would have liked to see, hopefully Spooky recorded some of them and will upload footages on YT. They should find better ways to stream the event.

I think BJ and Karipaku were the only Codys who made it out of pools but I could be wrong. And both of them were eliminated in their very next match

Alioune didn’t seem at all comfortable in that match. Such a shame he missed the EX CU after the EX Zonk in the corner for the stun :frowning:

I was there, went 2-2, played pretty bad. Harrison went 2-2 as well I believe, Joe Love (GoodMealJoe) from TX lost his first match and made it to losers final where he lost as well. Karipaku made it out and lost to Rico Suave, I didnt get to watch that cause my friend was playing Chris King at the same time.

Any idea on how to get around people that mash crouch tech option select? I can’t get a hit in cause they’re always blocking and when I grab they ALWAYS tech it. Also someone told me he’s full of gimmicks, so those that mean he falls off at top level? I have a bunch of question but I don’t want to flood the boards, so if anybody has xbox live and wouldn’t mind getting sets with my Cody (Just to see why I suck so bad and what I be doing)
