I can tell you without any hesitation, that Gameworks is interested in hosting tournaments. I think the only thing is that they aren’t willing to get off their asses and find out how to go about throwing a tournament.
Pablo, yer right, it would take a shit load of people comin out to make them realize the potential of the Fighting game scene. So a shit load of people do have to come out. Its that simple. Gameworks might be able to ignore the cries of a few, but they can’t deny the shouting of a mob.
And I can also say that there are people inside of Gameworks that will support your efforts. One of the managers is an avid 3rd Strike player and he’ll do what he can to convince the higher ups of what they could protentially do. Unfortunatly tho, Gameworks is a franchise so it won’t be easy. I’m told that if one Gameworks in the U.S. was to get a certain game, then all Gameworks in the U.S. have to get the same game. Don’t let that discourage you tho, because it isn’t set in stone and exceptions can be made.
Any help such as information pertaining to the average amount of revenue a “Capcom vs. Snk2” cabinet can pull in, or tournament information and the amount of crowds they bring, anything like that at all will help the scene at Gameworks because when it comes down to it, businesses look at numbers.
At the risk of sounding corny, guys we can make a difference ! We can’t take no for an answer and anyone who is serious can’t give up. Argh, I need to kill a bison with my bare hands after saying that.
On a lighter note, the only people allowed to talk shit at Gameworks are the ones wearing a Crew shit. They are always right. Everyone else is always wrong.
OK, I sent mail to Tanj/Damien/Siu Wai to see if they have any details. While I still have Tanj’s Naomi board (with Sega adapter), I also have a Naomi 2 board (with JAMMA adapter) coming my way. You can get CPS2 A-boards for $50 on eBay right now. So if we want to convince them to switch over to another CPS2 or Naomi-based game, if they’re worried about cost I don’t mind helping solve that. =\
Both side are functioning at a nominal level. F.I.N.A.L.L.Y Left side feels slightly funny to me but that’s about it.
