Lets play at Gameworks Thursday nights

I go to Gameworks to unwind and blow off stress… I’m just never interested in playing tournament matches. I’m just there to play casual… so I think I’m done. It’s just lame when the pinball machines are all broken as fuck and you get to wait ten minutes to play someone who thinks a) it matters and b) losing is a sign of personal failure.

I like to PLAY Marvel. I’m not really interested in winning (that’s not the fun bit), but I’m just not interested in being involved in these ultra-serious matches certain people keep trying to have. You guys know what teams I play, you guys know if there’s ever a “serious” Marvel rotation - I’m not there. That’s not an accident. Everybody’s great, but I’m just not interested in playing Tournament Mode when I’m trying to relax and unwind after a fucked-up day. I just don’t fucking care.

So: have fun. I’m out.

Word, dude. Fucking word. That’s why I’ve always liked playing the lower tiers i.e. characters I just like, rather than the good ones with all the amazing tools. Sucks though, it makes me lose to everyone. :bgrin:

Yeah I hear ya on that.
= Take the fun of the game, and then you are left with no reason to play. =

Whenever I play at home or at an arcade, I only play for fun. When I am at a tourney, I play to the best of my ability, but I always have fun playing against competition. The only time it is not fun for me, is when I am playing against a bad sport. If someone can get that crazy over a game, then why play it if it makes you so bitter? Right?

Playing low tiers is part of the fun and part of the challenge. :bgrin:
I like to use Q, Hugo, Twelve, and Sean for pete sake. I mean look at my avatar. haha
But anyway, the way I look at it, every low tier is capable of winning.

It’s so much easier to rock the lower tiers in 3s, though. I definitely do that, I repped some Twelve last time I was at GW… it’s just way harder in Marvel. I don’t understand how you could make a character with an 8-way airdash and not expect it to be infinitely better than every other character. Back when I was more low tier practiced in MvC2 I’d probably agree that it’s part of the challenge, but I don’t have the local comp. I once had, and everybody here is pretty good.

You should play some 3s every once in a while. I know you don’t really play the game, but hey, who cares?

None of us take ourselves very seriously over there. (I don’t at least, I win a max of 2 matches per night :D)

In other news, I got uh, a lot of matches on tape. It’ll be a while before I sort through them all.
It’s gonna be tough for me to put names to characters, so you guys are going to have to help me out

I guess I can start by asking:
-What’s the Urien/Dudley/Hugo player’s name?
-Who’s the Alex that recently started showing up?
-Who’s the guy who plays SAI Yun and Oro?
-Who’s the Makoto player that isn’t Gray Fox?
-Elena player = IceNine, correct?

I don’t really mind the serious matches so much as long as the equipment is remotely working in some fashion. I was kinda miffed when I only got to play Gambit/Iron Man/Cyclops for three games before Rat picked Matrix on me hahah. I just hate the controls there. Amazing how quickly I turned from an arcade player to a console player. You should’ve seen it, after you left there was a point where I hit Rat’s Storm with short short rh+drones, ahvb. And I hit the buttons HELLLLLLLLA hard, but if I didn’t hit them that hard, I would’ve missed the super. As always with my anger, it’s never towards another person, just retarded incidents and gross controls.

But as far as like the fun part, for me, I actually have a lot more fun with the better/good characters in Marvel. One team I’m actually working on, is WM/IM/Doom. Team is ridiculously fun, no way I’ll ever win with it, especially in Seattle, but I love it hahah. I guess this is the double edged sword of being in what’s arguably the best Marvel city in the world. I think I can agree with you Zach. Fun matches are what remind you of why you play. In my opinion, low tiers are almost never funner than the top tiers unless it’s 3S and CvS2, basically anything non Marvel hahah.

I wouldn’t say its so much easier. But I would say it is quite difficult.
As for comparisons:
There are dominant characters in 3rd just like in MvC2.
Bottom tier characters almost never appear in tourneys(people want the guaranteed tools to win).
Just like blocking/push blocking/switch ins/crossover/super in MvC2, you have to be careful(know) when to parry, block, throw, crossover, and super[which is only achieved through experience]
Top tier characters have weaknesses too(i.e. chun can be juggled by dudley with crouching rh or sakura/striders infinite on sentinel.

But i’m pretty sure comp has to be tough to find in WA(when compared to CA), but at least you have SRK to make g2gs and stuff for it.
Anyway, in mvc2 I rep Cammy/Jill/Psylocke sometimes I switch it up with Strider/BBhood/Captain C.
Just thought i’d throw out a little bottom/middle tier love out there.

Gameworks is offically wack

One of my final vent post on the works. They have removed half price games during happy hour, so now we are forced to pay that 80cents every fucking time for a game that came out years ago. Word is there removing the “Pay you way Thursday” event that I thought was pretty popular.

So what exctally is the point of gameworks. They don’t give a fuck about us, their removing 2 important things that keep people playing the shitty maintained cabinets.:annoy:

Greed is a mutherfucka I tell ya.

Yep, make me look good dude (i.e. dont show poor Elena getting raped). I don’t know if it was the sticks or my rusty execution but I was whiffing combos that I usually nail left and right, still managed to sneak in a few wins though.

I’m just now starting to take her seriously so I didn’t try to rock Ken (not that I’m a pro with him either). I was wondering why I was whiffing those EXs, damn roundhouse switch randomly dying… at least they fixed it.

That’s Shin Sheng Long.

It’s funny, the short time I’ve been here I never thought there was such a thing as casual Marvel. Sure, there are a few low tier games here and there but for the most part it’s seems like its serious business, not a lot of matches where people are just messing around… not that that’s bad, I assume it’s a byproduct of having great players and a very competitive scene where everyone wants to get better. I also assumed that everyone was cool with that, but other than Zach I’ve heard a couple other people complaining about how it’s always tournament mode around here. So yea, no real point to what I’m saying, just some observations.

I had a lot of fun playing 3S last night though. It sucks that I usually can’t make it on Thursdays since there are so many people that play, although I’m usually there on the weekend. In the past couple of months it’s been great playing a game that I thought I was never going to play on a regular basis after leaving Miami for Marvel City. Now if GW only got a CVS2 cab…

And I agree on the lameness of the broken pinball machines. I thought the Sopranos one was working since it was the only one without an out of order message, so I slide my card and notice it’s stuck on “looking for ball” mode. Weak.

It’s a hideously long line, though. I played some SvC until people started jumping on that too (what’s with that, seriously? that game cannot be played competitively…), and I’ve played some Samurai Shodown, but – about the only thing I might be able to play for casual games would be Tekken 5, and a) they don’t have DR and b) I’m still practicing / learning that at home anyways.

So there’s just no point-- either you get stupid hyper-serious matches (Marvel, where I’m generally unwilling to go full Top Tier Tournament mode when I’m trying to relax), long lines (third strike), broken games (pinball or SvC), or games that could be fun if I had the chance to learn them (Shodown, Tekken) but will just end up again playing against somebody who thinks it matters while I’m still trying to master three-hit combos.

What I liked best about LanWerx was that there was always a second cabinet where I could play casually.

CvS2 is also kind of a randomly fun game – it can be annoying, but it’s a lot better casual game than the highly technical Third Strike and a lot less dominated by one tactic (such as the stupidly overpowered Storm/Sent duo). If they had CvS2 or Super Turbo, I’d be much happier.

Sol yeah… there’s not really any playable games for me on Thursday, and they don’t have any pride at the arcade about keeping their stuff running. I’m glad they at least fixed the time on Marvel. =P

First off, I am pretty sure the 1st player side of Marvel is busted, the stick to be exact. It just does not seem to respond as it should, at least not as responsive to the way I move it. I wanted to at least tell Nate about it, but he seemed to be busy.

I do share Zach’s sentiments, but then again I crave competition no matter what game I get it from. I have a tendency to pick shitty characters no matter what the game is, so the disadvantages are always stacked up against me. I do not mind having to put forth my best efforts, if you can call them that, every time I play marvel but I guess I have gotten used to it. I need my damn fix! I will seriously still play with broken fierce buttons and sticks that will not let you block, yes I do have a problem.

Since I play every damn near every fighting game ever made it is easier for me to jump from machine to machine. Again, this is just another instance in which GW could greatly benefit from another GOOD fighting game to dispurse the lines a little bit, but we already know that and it will never change. Even I got sick of marvel after giving Ratana (sp?) 15 wins a row and had to take a break from being raped.

i lose a lot when i go to gameworks.

I lose a lot when I suck

… hahaha, it happens a lot =P

So that’s who icenine is…I would have said something, but I don’t think I’ve ever seen you play til now.

Alex kid has shown up a couple times before. He always makes the moneyshot screams when a super is about to connect: “Whiff!!! Connect!!! FUCK!!!” It’s pretty funny to watch. It’s kinda like someone playing a racing game then leaning in a attempt to turn their car faster.

He did pretty good. Anyone that saw him finish me in my last match was pretty goddamned funny. I went for the c.lk ex chop finish, but somehow managed to bump roundhouse and my taunt came out. Taunting into your own death is fucking top-tier.

When can we expect a video upload umbrella?

I’m working on the videos, there’s a lot of them.

Hopefully by the time I go to sleep tonight I’ll have them all up.

edit: http://youtube.com/profile_videos?user=largemann
if you want to see what I have up so far

help me out with the ??? names too >_>

umbrella: Some of those Elena vids aren’t me, there was this other guy that used her jumping RH a lot. One of the matches was against the ??? Alex guy and another was against Gray Fox.

oh no

shit, I was wondering why there were so many vids of you -_-

edit: should be fixed now

Hey, when I saw those vids I realized my random ass playing style is NOT that bad.

Hurray!!!

Either way, thanks for uploading those umbrella, it feels pretty cool to watch myself in a video. I showed heart!!

hey, I noticed the complete opposite for myself! -_-

that’s not even half the videos, I still have a lot more to upload, but I got lazy :frowning:
