Lets End This! the MvC3 X-23 Combo/Strategy Thread

It doesnt really matter, when people miss push blocks they dont get normals. 95% of the time, they get dashes

I def agree with a steady increase to the priority to certain normals for Laura. MFC really helps, but it simply gets to the point where most of everything has to be covered in certain matchups. I was fighting a Magneto w/Hidden Missiles and holy shit—Mags could easily hit confirm a normal leading to a ToD combo, while my X23 was fishing to counterreact from the pressure. From what I understand, a character of this design is suppose to actually be somewhat limited to specific range of normals outside techs.

I guess that’s what makes resets/frame traps with X23 so reliant, and with the team I run (23/Doom/Wesker) I’d say that is appropriate. X23 mindgames are her greatest strongsuit.

Kinda depends really. If they’re blocking high, they’ll mostly like get a dash, if they’re blocking low, they usually get normals.

And Ephidel, yup, I had the exact same issues. Mags is already a really annoying MU. Fought a Mags with Hidden Missiles during a(very rare)offline session a while back and it was getting too stupid, I had to pick Storm. Even with day 1 flight combos into a DHC’s more than enough to kill X-23 and he has lots of control over the screen plus more than enough ways to open you up…and my blocking’s lacking on top lol.

Everytime time I touched Mags, I made sure he was dead, did Scythe Loops just to make sure. Hidden Missiles aggravates me to no end. Then, I had to fight various chars backed up with Hidden Missiles(Firebrand, Taskmaster, Dorm) and that was basically it for me lol, I lost 80% of my matches versus those teams. At the time, I didn’t have a combo extender so I couldn’t snap in and 1 touch the 1.mil and up chars with X-23 without blowing XF, so yeah, it didn’t go well for me.

So pretty good lab day for me last night.

Found a meter neutral 1.2mil combo(2 assist, 1 dhc…1.05mil without the DHC and 1 meter positive), found a way to make ETR loops even more stupid and technical (but add on somethin like 50k damage and look swag as hell), found an extension to the jump loops to maximize damage there as well as finalizing my TA M bnb to allow for better openers (40k less damage than corner ETR loops and works midscreen with full corner carry).

And I am SOOOO close to finding a combo that can end in a dirt nap from the start of a match (something like 5% meter short atm… so frustrating.) You have to sacrifice some damage to maximize meter gain but the lab geek in me wants to find it so bad, lol.

I’m gonna try to put together a vid since it’s been a while since I’ve put out anything.

Can’t wait to see it Merkly. Sounds really cool.

damn looks like i’ve got some research to do. mag x23 sent (beam, neck slice, drones) sound alright to you guys?

How are you using Magneto to setup unblockables?

Okay I played vanilla marvel when it dropped but stopped playing because I got obsessed with SSFIV, I want to get into ultimate and I want to use Laura but I have a few questions.

-How exactly do you use a mirage feint cancel mid combo?
-What is her standard bnb with no OTG assist?
-Is there any use for the dhc trick anymore at all?
-Aside from a horizontal assist what should I be looking for to help her either get in or extend damage?
-I remember reading somewhere that X23 is only a real threat when the player is able to hold down the S button throughout the duration of the match. Is this true and if so why?

i’m doing emp/magblast combo into hyper grav. so what i do for one of the many unblockables that mag/x23 has is a common one i think;

combooo xx beam/mirage feint :m: and some other stuff using dirt nap and drones. i’m basically just looking for any tips regarding combos or any setups she can do because i think she’s an unnecessarily underrated character

got some more stuff up, could be old news but whatever the case I’m might be done with fishing around for dmg combos. Each time I play X23 now I’m attempting to do more resets and stuff. She’s capable of getting 800k+ but her best mindgames are those deadly resets/mixups

^ M feint that went “backward” instead forward. When Ryu tech rolled I guess the game thought she was on the other side but the M feint still registered to go forward, looking like what you see. You could simply just dash back, but still somewhat interesting.

^iirc tmnt set up an unblockable with this, here I just get them to think I’m tracking the roll so that they don’t defend the other way and cross them up.

You should use Ankle Slice IMO(low-hitting and OTGs), unless that’s what you were talking about. I know Mags can control people’s tech rolling on wake-up with his Attraction I think, so maybe there’s potential for unblockables on people’s wake-up with Ankle Slice+Mag’s jump-ins/tri-jump attacks or something.

IMO, X-23 goes well with Drones(who doesn’t haha), you can set up a lot of mix-ups like fuzzy guards when Drone’s locking them down and as well as the usual mix-ups. However, if you’re planning on using X-23 for XF2, you have to keep in mind that Mags goes down early without a kill and you burn X-23’s XF2 for kills, it’s definitely in your best interest to keep her alive, don’t trust Sent on anchor without XF, unless you’re RayRay lol. Also keep in mind without combo extensions, X-23’s damage is average, with extensions, she can deal a whole lot more. Dunno if there’s some nifty Drones extension combos, but I tried it out and couldn’t get anything. I could extend combos with Bombs though.

Also, if you want to save Mags via DHC, none of X-23’s DHCs are safe aside from Silent Kill. You can cross-over counter into her to save Mags, and Crescent Scythe’s an invincible cross-over I think, but you don’t get Ankle Slice.

You can do attraction, fly+ call x-23 assist into j.S
I dont really like Magnus with x-23 tbh but it can definitely work.

If you guys are experimenting with resets try out X-23 w/Spencer up-grapple, i’ve been messing with this lately and it can be pretty damn gross.
Especially with setups like H MFC’d+ Grapple so you have more time to set up mixups… you can do so much silly shit like H MFC+ Grapple dash under H feint j.S (if you start from the left it’ll still hit on the left, shit’s tight though) or grapple into fully charge qcf+L or H.

Also, what are these combos that are doing 900k+? my shit barely does that with a DHC >__>’

I think it’s the Scythe Loops combined with 2 assists that are the 900-1mil ones(I REALLY wanna see Merkly’s combos though.)

Did somebody say ‘nifty drones extension’? :stuck_out_tongue:

No help for me?! :frowning:

hmm.

  1. Either two ways: If your holding “S” as you feint, you should automatically cancel the feint during a combo process. The other way is doing a feint command+pushing “S” simultaneously and that should achieve a MFC, and I’ve only seen MFCs mid combo when attempting to go for a reset since they still contribute to hitstun.

  2. Any MF combo variation ending in RT, there are some dmging ones out there but most them do rely on a OTG assist for maximum dmg.

  3. DHC Trick was removed for this game, the hitstun and dmg reset do not occur like it did in vanilla.

  4. You can try Taskmaster Vertical Arrows, Hawkeye’s Kamikaze, etc.

  5. No, it is not true. It makes MFCs a lot easier to do, but other than that it is not a necessary option at all.

^What he said. Here’s my thoughts just to round out the discussion.

1.The only reason you would really want to add in an MFC mid combo is if you’re not in the corner and still have some hitstun to burn through. In the corner you’ll most likely want to add a CS LxxTA L.

  1. I just put a new vid out with what I feel are her strongest bnbs atm, check the penultimate thread for that. Those are the more advanced options atm, so check the penultimate combo portion for other options.

  2. ‘DHC Trick’ is gone in that you don’t get the hitstun/damage reset, but WXP > certain DHCs can still be used to allow followups that wouldn’t normally work. (Characters with histun ignoring loops can still get more out of it than normal DHCs in most cases. eg:Dante, Strange, Zero, Vergil)

4.X-23 can extend with a great deal of the assists in this game. Hori’s are def. the strongest tool for getting in and most of them will allow you to extend with ‘beam bounces’. X-23 always likes assists that allow her to combo off air throws (OTGs, dark hole, cold star, etc.) and her low attacks have decent range/priority to let her make use of overheads for unblockables.

5.Nope. You can if you want, but it’s just a matter of preference if you want to hold down S or just use M/L+S when you decide to use an MFC.

Ohohohohohoho, thanks for this! You know what’d be really wicked? If the extension worked after full CS Loops. Gonna test it out.

Thanks guys, I’ll definitely check out some of your combo vids Merkyl. and I think I have some ideas with her as well for cheap tricks and stuff like that. This character is gonna be a lot of fun

How exactly does everyone confirm off a normal jump height M TA? I’ve tried various things, but all of them seem to be REALLY dependant on when and where you hit each opponent. I feel like that’s one of her main ways of approaching, and yet I have no idea what to do when I actually land a hit with it besides d+H.
