Left vs. right corner

Anyone have a theory, or better yet, know why USFIV didn’t fix the differences between the left and right corners?

Why they didn’t fix it? It’s probably a difficult to fix issue and/or they are lazy. I wish I knew what causes it.

Obviously lazy. Sagat’s ultra took 5 years to fix.

Theres a difference between the corners?..

Some things cross up in one, not in the other. Rufus springs to mind. It’s quite specific, but still a “thing”

It’s hilarious when you got a fake crossup, a real crossup, and a double fake crossup (hit in front land in back) and one of them can switch based on corner. Rolento’s FJ HP will usually not hit in front land in back in the left corner but does in the right corner. His FJ MP is the same way, left corner lands in front almost exclusively while right corner lands behind usually. Then he’s got his FJ MK which depending on how late you do it can end up being a crossup or hit in front and both times he lands behind regardless. His D+MK can hit in front land in back, hit in front land in front then double up and pogo to the back or front again. It’s dirty as hell.

I know Cody has a bunch of unblockables that only work in one corner or the other, also the weirdness with him is pretty consistent. Right corner almost everything can be blocked holding back except a delayed FJ MK, everything lands behind. Though there is one weird thing, left corner (vs some characters like Cammy) a FJ MK non-delayed blocked will land in front hit lands in back, same deal with FJ HK while FJ HP always stays in front. Right side everything lands behind always. Of course this is only with characters already standing, not discussing chars in the process of getting up.

Corners are wonky in this game and oddly enough even in some 2D games where you’d think it’d be easier to keep em the same.

Bumping this because I just recently read a game development article that specifically discusses how cameras work in games (including SF1) and can potentially provide some insight into how the corners differ. It’s also just an interesting article to read if you’re a curious person interested in game development, like me.
