So I figure some of you guys on here would have some interest in this. Ryan from http://www.gootecks.com wrote up an article for http://www.iPlayWinner.com over the weekend on how too approach the two different styles of play.
If you find that you lean too far to either side (too defensive or too reckless), you may want to read this to gain insight on how to become more rounded player.
Check it out:
Thanks again to Ryan for doing this and if you guys like these entries we will be sure to do more in the future!
that was very informative if i must say. I’ll try those methods out, but i don’t have any money at the moment. I’ll have to hit up China town next saturday or whatever. Anyways keep doing these.
What about lockdown, lol, which imo is a combination of both, and how i play guile in ST.
Okay, just read the write up. I think that it all depends on matchups. So, I wanna go more in depth with my guile example. In ST you can turtle with guile in every matchup. And if you tryto rushdown with guile in st you look stupid because guile just isnt built for that, but he is good at playing a combination of these lockdown not exactly turling and not exactly rushdown. An example of this with guile would be to basically sit in sweep range, with a charge, and use a combination of block strings and punishment. Note,at this range i cansimply punish most moves on startup in st whith a poke in st, the idea is to incite an action you can punish. So im sitting in sweep range with a charge and do a crouching block string or poke. This would cause someone to block low or jump. A good example of this is in the matchup with guile and ryu. Once guile is in sweep range of ryu and gets in a crouching position with a charge the match is pretty much over.
Rushdown = rushing opponent with attacks to keep them down in the corner or wherevever u want.
Lockdown=Locking an opponent down with attacks in the corner or wherever u want.
I guess, but still I think it a little deeper than rushdown because its all about forcing your opponent to do something(tutling), but forcing the issue, but you guys are proably right im going of ona tangent here.
I dunno, I think you may have a point (havent read the article yet however).
Rushdown to me is like point-blank strings and mixups, like Gouki or Kyo in CvS2, constant barrage of attacks.
Lockdown sounds to me more like aggresive mid-range zoning that is less constant that rushdown. So Guile getting in that sweet range and yeah maybe sitting for a second but then doing stuff like sonic boom - backfist, sonic boom - walk up poke string, sonic boom - throw, and an anti-air flashkick or upper if the opponent tries to jump forward to get out of it.
I think ‘lockdown’ by how you described it is an example of a tactic that mixes rushdown and turtling in an effective way (no homo).
guess i should go read the article now, Gootecks and co are really stepping it up since SFIV came along.
