Ryu, Ken, Dhalsim, Chun, etc all get free juggles after a trade if its with a button with little hitstun. So this would be no different. Again Laura is the ONLY fireball character to have this property. Lest we forget her projectil is also the slowest to startup and most punishable.
Other characters can combo off of an overhead. At the VERY least they are safe after it hits. Laura is 0. We cannot continue pressure after it especially against 3 frame reversal characters. If you try ANYTHING after a successful overhead against a Ryu he can just DP out of it simple. The 3F jab will not trade, it will lose. Nash has positive overheads. Ryu has a positive overhead. Rashid has a positive overhead. So no Ibuki is not the only one.
You should be able to use her overhead at point blank if we want to. Keep in mind i said THROW Invincible. A simple jab beats it clean at any distance. Right now you can throw it MID MOTION. I’ve even had it “trade” at midscreen where I hit the opponent, but they grabbed me so I just collapse after I successfully hit them. Its buggy and needs to be fixed.
I get what you’re saying, but you’re furthering my point in buffs. Laura is SUPPOSED to be good at mixing you up and making you guess. Right now she’s good at that…but Mika is 20 times better and safer so pick her instead. Mika doesn’t fear reversal DPs like Laura does. Mika doesn’t have to wonder what you’re going to do as the opponent receiving the mixup like Laura does. She is strong but MIka is stronger. Right now Laura basically does everything Mika can but weaker. Weaker buttons, weaker setups, weaker V-trigger, weakest command grab in the game…as a command grappler. Vega has a fucking better command grab than she does. Lets make Laura great again.
No it wouldn’t. Have you ever actually traded with the clap before? If you’re lucky enough to get a trade instead of losing (as she normally will in that situation) the hitstun never allows for a followup unless its an EX clap. So with that logic the only way Laura can get a follow up is to burn meter and eat damage. Seems fair enough to me.
Yeah, but the texture is there anyway, so I don’t see why it shouldn’t be color 10 for the outfit or something like that. SFIV did that with a bunch of costumes and added/removed some things if you picked color 10.
I was wondering why ken players get so much mileage with their st mk, cr mp “frame trap”. St mk is -2 on block and cr mp has 5 frames of startup (so 7 frames gap) but you still see counter hits everywhere. It has to be because of the low hitstop that st mk has, so it’s hard to react with the proper button at the right time. Kinda like rashid’s lp spinning mixer.
I have to see if I can get away with murder with something similar with laura. Her cr lk has the lowest hit stop I think, and her vskill dash is fairly quick when you cancel from it. The problem is that it’s at least -13 on block…
I’ve been having some succes with cr lk > command grab. 8 frame gap though, but as you said, the cr lk recovers so incredibly fast that it’s hard to react to.
Noobish question lol, but what are everyone’s go to setups after v-reversal? I just realized that usually when I use it I end up running and getting some space which is never a good strategy for Laura haha.
I usually go for dash and sweep because people are most of the time holding back and not watching their toes after a VR. I don’t know if you can get any real setup after the knockdown.
[edit] I just realized I mostly do that because they always backroll, but indeed you can do st. HP.
vskill forward, st hp beats 3 framers, but you have to adjust your timing if they back or quick rise. I saw people use dash, lp bolt but I haven’t tested it
I think I’ve never used her V-Reversal in a situation where I wanted to go in afterwards. I pretty much only use it when I’m getting pressured and am close to stun so I’ve never though about potential set-ups afterwards. Considering how crazy her damage and stun output in V-Trigger is I feel like using V-Reversal as a last resort is the best choice.
Interesting. I rarely ever go into v-trigger. It’s hard for Laura to gain v-meter on her own so usually when she has two bars it’s because she’s almost dead. I love that there are different ways to play Laura and use her meter, though!
Thanks for the tips everyone, time to work some of it in.
Meh, is it really worth it? I see many top players always going for VT at the point of never VReving even under pressure (Will2Pac today was a perfect display of that), but her VRev is really too powerful to just reverse or keep momentum while having a free K/D setup. Also since your VT is 2 bars using one VRev will never make you lose the chance to use the VT.
Also I’m retarded, I realized I already went for other stuff after the V-Reversal, specifically st. HK to fish for CCs. But Los is right, st. HP works too and is probably better since it’s special cancelable.
On another note, I noticed when watching Krone’s streams that he managed to land an incredible amount of CC with st. HP… do you have some success with that and in which situations? I really have to study his replays.
I’ve played a lot of online laura’s who like to save their meter for VT and CA, but I tend to be more about spending whatever I have whenever I can. I just feel like Laura is really dependent on her ex moves, more so than many other characters, and v-reversal has saved my ass too many times to count.
I think it’s worth saving for V-Trigger. As mentioned above damage and stun is real in VT, her command grab range becomes really good and some post-EX-clap setups are only possible in VT since it launches them higher. Plus it allows you to do a real easy hit confirm (target combo -> VT) into huge damage. V-Reversal, as mentioned before, is only a last resort for me.
I never save meter for CA though. EX Bolt Charge and EX Clap are just too important.
I took Laura for a spin last night. This is my first time using a grappler and she’s feels good. I beat a few people using just her normals. Then again maybe my opponents just sucked…
I think she’s really good, and we just haven’t gotten to the point where people have really “got” her style like Marn and Fuudo did with Mika. Wolfkrone seems to have got it, but something is still off. It feels like fighting Laura should leave your opponent unable to think and wondering what the hell just happened.
Also, on a random note, how come no one online is wearing her premium costume? I have seen literally only one person other than me wearing it lol.
I don’t think Krone is the best Laura either, he lacks international experience and often relies on online gimmicks too much. EU Lauras - especially French ones - are in general much more solid and work a lot on tech.
And you’re totally right, Laura is made to keep your opponent in confusion. Unlike Mika who really only relies on going in and guessing correctly, Laura has a some moves like the fireball or Linear Movement that don’t give a direct offensive advantage but let you continuously alter the pace of the match. I feel that learning to use the VSB (which sadly I mostly don’t) is key to making her midrange game really upsetting.
I’ve been rocking the premium outfit online for an entire month before the swimsuit came out lol. I like both costumes but I’m just going for the newest one for now.
