This is a good analysis on the mika matchup.
The other day jibbo played against one of the best mika on the leaderboard, and he said he will upload the sets on youtube
That’s pretty cool. He has a video against a Karin too, and it’s good as well. I wished he talked more about gameplanning than just explaining why things just happened. What kind of data he’s looking for, what he’s doing to get that data, how he’s planning to take advantage of it, why he’s looking for specifically those things etc. That kind of thing. More overarching strategy and less moment to moment.
I was just watching this video again last night. I like the idea he had about doing c.HP xx EX Clap after Mika TC to relieve pressure and give you frame advantage.
How realistic is it to one hit confirm off of st.MP? I can’t do it for shit and anybody who claims that they can is a filthy liar.
Nah, I don’t think it’s possible to hit confirm with a single mp. You can easily react to the counter hit and press cr mp xx something though
Well, you could hit-confirm CA by linking it I guess.
I meant reacting to it hitting by cancelling into a special. I’ve seen people claim that they can do it but I don’t buy it. The OGs call basically every cancel a confirm and I call shenanigans. Obviously, you can contextually confirm if you for example see them extending a normal just before you hit, but I mean putting a dummy on random block and having a reasonable success rate. Outside of special cases like Laura’s own cr.HP it’s horse shit.
So has anyone viewed Laura’s hitboxes yet? What’s the consensus on that?
Honestly viewing alot of the characters hitboxes, alot of them dont make any sense, I mean I know stuff isnt suppose to match but quite a few of them are nowhere near the limbs of the characters their attached to.
Her command grab range and regular throw range box is ridiculous to look at compared to R. Mika’s and especially Geifs. If shes gonna be a grappler they need to extend that box to match with the others.
I’d say Laura and R.Mika have no business having the same grab range as Gief so I wouldn’t expect them to. Nor do I think Laura’s grab ranges are even that bad. Her VT buffs the ranges of her grabs anyway. You can test it in training to see for yourself.
Nah, Laura doesn’t need more range on her command grabs. She closes that distance much more easily than Mika or Gief, and often many of her setups put her comfortably in range for a HK command grab.
I think Laura has good enough grab range, it would be pointless to buff it any further.
If anything I’d like to see them make EX Command Grab more useful. I only really use it for jokes to blow up a quick rise if someone is sleeping, otherwise I honestly never bother with it. Why waste the bar when I can just dash throw?
Man I swear I can’t hit 3000LP for the life of me. I get close need to win one more match and I fucking lose. Rinse and repeat. I’m at 2932 now but I was at 2986 before. I just played a 4000LP Nash. Beat him and he fucking RQ’s as soon as it said KO. This happened to me twice today…I dont understand why Capcom thought it was a smart Idea not to filter between players of your skill and more than skill. All these fuck boys who have too much pride are getting away with murder while others are legitimately grinding out their points. I’m really not even seeing a reason to play rank anymore man. I’m really just about to give up and say fuck this.
Sorry for the rant
And I just hit 3000LP. I guess ranting on SRK got rid of the salt so I can play better.
Ranked and caring about points is a waste of time in it’s current state IMHO. It’s just too fubar. There is no real penalty for rage quitting. So if you’re a low rank, and you beat a higher ranked player, there is nothing stopping them from just DCing to save their points. That’s only going to make it harder for you to rank up yourself. Capcom really dropped the ball with the way online is handled. So, I just stick to offline for the most part. For as much as I love the way this game plays at it’s core, it’s current functionality in almost everything else is pretty inexcusable.
Honestly I’m not big on rank myself. I think it stuns your growth as a player because imo I feel like there is no conditioning or game plan fighting in rank. That’s why I didn’t play it in SFIV. Well at least at the lower levels from my experience. The way some of these gold players play I wonder how they even got their points without RQ. The Nash I mentioned would backdash and chuck plasma only to corner himself. Then would whiff scythe in neutral. Once he got close all he did really was TC xx EX Moonslaught. I would just dash under punish or s.LP him after landing. Yet he didn’t give a fuck. Battle lounge isn’t working for me so all I really have with casual matches or rank so I decided why not.
Trust me, I will be playing way more offline now that I actually experienced playing at Next Level for the first time last week. I noticed the difference immediately and I found it refreshing. Way easier to gain knowledge of the game and MU’s.
According to eventhubs, laura is 7th popular character in the game. A couple of days ago I checked global rankings, only 2 laura players were in the top 100 list…
leave the ship when its early, dont get distracted by the boobs. or this thread will be like dee jay thread all over again.
Honestly, I just don’t have nearly the same amount of fun with any other character as I do with Laura. She isn’t bad enough to warrant me dropping her. I do think she has some troublesome match-ups, but until I reach a point where I look at multiple match-ups and can’t find answers to what they are beating me with, I don’t have a good enough reason to drop Laura. I will be playing Alex when he comes out and we will see how that shakes out.
She is fun to use but I don’t see how you can consistently beat the best Gief, Chun Li or Necalli players with this character. Doesn’t matter to me though, I will be waiting for Juri and hopefully these two will cover most MU’s.
Haven’t played another character since launch. It’s just recently I been using other characters like Cammy, Nash, and Necalli. I like Nash and Cammy, they feel refreshing because of their good normals but I just can’t see myself dropping Laura. I put time in plus its really fun using her. Making the right reads and stuff feels really rewarding with her. It’s certain MU’s like Chun or Ryu (patient Ryu’s) that are hard for me but I’ll understand it in time. I’m not really feeling the current roster tbh so that’s another reason for not trying more characters. I too will try Alex out of course and see what’s good with him. Urien is another character I’m looking forward to using.
@DrGulag I see your point about the consistency beating the good Giefs, Chun’s, etc. Just gotta see down the line as the game develop.
I agree entirely. Necalli and Chun especially make me feel lost. A patient Ryu can also be a pain in the ass. I get the knockdown and I have to respect SRK. Meanwhile, one good read from Ryu takes off 30% of my life and then I have to wake up. She can just as frustrating as she is fun.
I really like using Laura but when Guile gets in she may have to be a secondary… Guile must be the answer to Chun… He’s gotta be!
