Anyway, it seems you don’t need to input forward + V-Skill after her back + V-Skill to cancel into the forward dash. Just pressing V-Skill by itself works. And you actually can’t cancel her forward dash into the back one.

The ex punch doesn’t have armor on reversal. Does that mean the moves doesn’t have armor the first few frames?

This is just my 5 cents. Laura feels so incomplete.It’s sad. I’ve gotten to top 30 with Mika and Karen comfortably, but even using Laura was a bit wow.

Her cr.mp has very little range sometimes I’d near point blank CH and try to squeeze another cr.mp in there and it whiffs. Her walkspeed is slow as hell for how stubby her normals are. Her damage is too low for how stubby her normals are. Her links are too poor for how stubby her normals are. It’s just a revolving door of why she feels incomplete. Her fireball disappears when hit, but she doesn’t have the range threaten people from mashing out at slightly beyond her cr.mp range. Her command grab can’t be canceled into ( I guess they were trying to avoid karakusa style tick throws). Her wakeup game is beyond poor especially vs Rashid. Jesus Christ he can just spin vs her and that’s GG. Most of my success came from frametraps (St.hp nothing or or St.HP xx qcb+PP > ST.Hp (reset)) which is oddly where she excels if her range wasn’t doo doo she’d probably be top tier.

Another weird quirky thing (It’s just my preference) is the fact that her st.mp is her AA but her cr.mp is her pressure tool. Seeing as she has two specials qcb/qcf+P sometimes I would to move forward from crouching and try to AA with st.MP and get one of those specials.It could just be me playing on pad and not being used to it but wtf?

TL;DR Laura is overall just lacking in so many ways I can’t tell what style of character she is supposed to be and overall she is just incredibly incomplete because of that.

You’re just playing her wrong, most likely. It’s not that she’s incomplete, it’s that you don’t know what you’re supposed to be doing with her. That frustrates you, and from that frustration comes the character blaming.

The fact that you did well with a couple other characters and not this one is not a fault of the character. You’re not guaranteed to be godlike with Laura because you got to top 30 with R. Mika. Judging from your complaints, it seems you’re trying to play her like she’s another character you know how to play already instead of learning to play her. I suggest you watch footage of other Laura players to get an idea of what you’re supposed to be doing.

The walk speed and stubby normals are a valid complaint initially, but her spacing and mobility comes from proper use of her V-Skill. She doesn’t have much in the way of links or hit confirms, but she’s not that kind of character. She does indeed suck at AA and on wake up, though.

Yeah, that would be nice, as it stands you can try to go for a command grab afterwards.

And EX elbow does have a hit of armor on wakeup.

Laura has some nasty set ups. I’d like to see some people start using her forward dash more and just mix up back and forth. People start blocking a lot and i’m sure there are set ups to get free counter hits after forward dash. I was playing really aggressive with her. She felt like sarah from VF with the flamingo dashes.

I partially agree, though I’m having slight doubts about her v-skill. Like ken’s it’s very punishable. Ryu sticking out st. mk will beat it pretty much every time. I found vskill back into overhead to have it’s uses, and vskill weave (back and forth) to also be alright, but the recovery on it didn’t quite seem worth it. Unless in trigger mode, I found forward dash to be better altogether for that purpose. I feel like her normals have to be just 3 fucking pixels longer. I was mentioning in general discussion that she seems unable to do anything at all against cammy’s st. mk. Standing mk seems to be the go to normal to me, it’s good for frame traps and moves you forward.

Her target combo feels useless to me though. What’s the point of it? If you’re going to hitconfirm off of st. mp. you might as well go into qcf+p. If you hitconfirm wrong off of target combo you’re punishable, so if you’re going to take a gamble might as well do it with qcf+p to get damage then…one option leads to damage, the other one leads to nothing but…less damage. Hell, at least let it cancel into a light fireball or something.

I got a lot of mileage out of her target combo actually, great for tick throws, and you can cancel it into v-trigger.

I agree it should be special cancellable, but it’s not useless.

neither sMP-MK nor qcfLP are punishable based on the frame data i’ve seen, though they are both minus.

I find it takes a while to get use to how Laura should be played but her v-skill is definitely the key. Her ability to hit confirm into V-Trigger and get massive damage from it is really good. I’m actually kind of annoyed that Jab Bolt Charge leaves enough hit stun and range to land a command grab right after it. It’s just feels really gimmicky and creates artificial mind games. I mostly just wish she had a 2 hit confirm into bolt charge that didn’t require a counter hit. I also want her AAs to be buffed because right now her Fierce bolt charge has to be done during the peak of their jump or you’re going to trade with the opponent and her s.Strong has to be spaced properly for it to AA.

She’s all about conditioning, IMO. You gotta get your opponent used to one thing, then throw a curve ball with another. If Ryu is blowing up your forward dash with cr.MK, dash back into overhead/EX Throw/EX Bolt Charge. Eventually, he’ll stop doing it, opening up your options again, or he’ll die.

You can tick throw after st.MP>MK, but I prefer to use it as combo filler off of a jump in when I have VT available. If I don’t have it available, I tend not to use it.

Hmm I never really tried to tick throw after it, I was under the impression(Phantasy, I’d like to see the frame data on this too) that it was punishable on block. At least every time I’d use it in a blockstring, I’d get jabbed right after when I’d attempt to block. I just find st. mk better in general for tick throws. I said in general discussion that right now, jabs are a ridiculous hard counter to tick throws. I blame walk speeds. I mostly used target combo for v-trigger shennanigans but that was mostly it. EX grab, I can’t find a proper use for either at the moment. I’d have to experiment a lot more with her spacing and vskill but it’s a highly telegraphed move, kind of a last resort hail mary like birdie’s dive in the first beta, where you could just jab him clear out of it, but it did a ton of damage if not dealt with.

Aesthetically, her towards + HP bothers me. It freaking looks like an overhead. Like, how the hell is that not an overhead, she’s smashing her elbows down on your head. It’s just like E.ryu’s stomps where only one version is an overhead even though the attack’s animation looks like it can only ever be an overhead.

Bitching aside though, I’m very interested to see how she develops. Out of every character thus far(and what I’ve seen of dhalsim, he looks impressive) she’s the most interesting and fun to play IMO. Bolt charge setups are a joy to mess around with and troll people with.

s.mp-mk is safe on block, at least no one ever punished me for it, but it is negative.

On hit its good for a tick throw/command grab setup, or to continue pressure.

I do really like the oki she can get after command grab or elbow followups, dashing in right afterwards puts you right in front of them and if they quickrise you can either grab or whatever. I hit someone with 3 command grabs in a row this way.

I know how to play her and not to be rude it’s like hour 4 and the opinion of her so far in general has been around the same.

I’ve seen other people play Laura and I’ve invested as much time as you. Land LP Shouldler? command throw. Do it again wait for jump qcf+PP. They waited? Jab LP shoulder jab, or Jab > ST.HP xx EX fireball frametrap or St.HP xx MP Fireball (whiff) EX Command throw, abuse ST.HP because you can V Skill on crush counter and get more damage plus a reset. She’s not Gen and you don’t need to be a gaming god to understand how to play her with what she currently has.

I was giving my opinion on why she would be considered incomplete. All of the problems (outside of cr.mp and st.mp which is just a preference thing) I listed were intertwined she doesn’t need everything , but if they just improve either her damage, range, confirms (which would up her damage), AAs (really mostly this because she had this before and it completed her design and made her solid), wakeup, or her walkspeed she’d be gold. But all of those are areas are mediocre for her and because of that all of that she feels lacking. Also her vskill doesn’t address her range or mobility outside of cancelling really since dashing is faster if you exclude human input varying timing. And she doesn’t have links because she’s incomplete bro not even some lights into lights or any medium into medium only mediums to light? Every character in the game has them in some form. She literally gets nothing from cr.lk at all outside of being meaty and I’d rather use st.mp as a meaty so I can link into st.HP. She is fun to play when you’re in your opponent’s head, but that’s every character she just looks better doing it since she’s flashy and fluid.

I’m not gonna rant anymore, since this is probably just an agree to disagree argument.
