All i can say is Loadmasters are the kings of Enlisted Jobs in any service…
Base pay is the same for all services. You might get extra pay depending on extra duties you have - such as airborne or sea pay. You get paid the same depending on your time in service and your pay grade.
I just found out that I don’t get the rest of my bonus (80%) until I arrive at my permanent duty station. This is all because of the “college kicker” in the Navy. God Damn I’m so tired of being fucked. HOLDING CO. is the worst.
It’s funny when I read a few other threads (that thinking out loud thread in particular), it’s like people think the Late Night Thread is exclusive. I read Slide post about it, and… Az as well. Another bullshit idea that there is an “elite” of SRK.
I remember when I came back to SRK in… 2003? After a year long hiatus of posting on SRK, I started posting here after I got to Hawaii, and everyone here was cool. This is probably the most flame free thread. I notice mastermind doesn’t post here as often as before… YahnV doesn’t also…
Man YahnV has the Greatest avatar of all time…
It’s like you were always hoping the nipple would show up…
But it never did…
well there is… rest assured its not anyone in gd.
Well… I mean “elite” in the way Motoki/Mark Beast was referring to it in that thread a little while back. There are elite players, of course, but Motoki was talking about elite like… the something or others at Gaia. Premies and whatever they were.
what do you guys mean by “elite”…
or what do other people think it is…
I never heard of this…
Nah, we all make the same amount of money if you look at the basic pay. After that, depending how how each branch wants to pay you, you get little extras on the side that kind of sweeten the deal.
BAS: Basic Allowance for Substance- this is the money they pay you to feed you and your family. It’s usually about $200 for a single person and more for a family. However, if you live in the dorms/barracks you don’t get it. About 5 years ago, somebody raised a complaint about not getting BAS because the chowhall/dinning facility food can suck most times. Not only that, but depending on your job (aircraft specialist) or time of day you work, you may or may not get BAS while living in the dorms. Soon after, congress started taking notice of this. So to get the little man off of their backs, they started giving it to everyone so it wouldn’t look like they were just pokceting the extra cash. Now they give it to us and take it right back. My LES (Leave and Earning Statement) or check stub looks like this.
Entitlements BAS:$267. Deductions: meal deductions $226.50. So now, all I get of that is $40.50. Don’t you just love the way uncle sam rapes us sometimes. So now that we technically get BAS, it’s supposed to shut us the hell up and even if it doesn’t. We can’t say that we don’t get it and it’s an uphill battle we can’t win.
Then there is BAH: Or free rent money. The way this is done is based on your rank. The more stripes you have, the more loot you get. So, you have to make sure that you stay under your ceiling when you look for your house. If your BAH is $400, then you have to find a house are apartment for about that much money. If you find something more expensive, then you have to come out of your own pocket to pay the rest. Not only that, you don’t get extra money to pay your other bills. So you won’t be living large by any means.
Next is COLA: Cost Of Living Allowance- You get paid this just for being alive. j/k :bgrin: This is what they pay you when the area that you live in is expensive and you have to live off of the economy. If you plan to live and shop off base, this can help you out. This is also based on Rank and where you live. If you live stateside, you can forget about ever seeing this little entitlement. But if you live in Iceland, you can get up to $1000+ a month if you live off base and %75 of it if your on base. It’s expensive to live in Japan right now, and I’m stuck in the dorms so I only get %75 COLA. I’m not good with math, but my COLA fluxuates between $450-$500. Add %75 to that and that’s how much extra I could be making.
After that come different amounts of extra pay for going to war. The best thing about the AF IMO is that we use aircraft to do the fighting for us. So we are usually about 200+miles away from the battle. But we still get the extra entitlements without the heat.
Hazardous fire pay: just because there shooting
Hardship pay: You live in shitty conditions and tents, here is some money to make you feel better.
Family seperation: money for leaveing your wife and kids behind.
Perdiem: How much it would cost you a day to live outside your normal means. This can sometimes be really good, or really suck ass. I went to Afganistan and made $3.40 a day. Living in a shit hole. But because the army was there to feed us UGR’s.
http://www.natick.army.mil/soldier/media/fact/food/ugr-e.htm
Thanks army, Hooah!!!
But I’m going to a class in San Antonio for 2 weeks and I’ll be getting $53.00 a day. Not only that, but when you go to a warzone, all of your shit is tax free. So all of the delicious entitlements that you got back home + extras make for a good deployment. Also, if you didn’t get BAS before, then you get it once you go out there are on regular vaction. I could never understand why they give it to you then, but who cares right?
Just for future refrence these are the bases in the AF that you want to be at for good COLA.
Keflavek (sp) Iceland- if you can keep your sanity by being bored out of your fucking mind then go for it.
The japan base in this order.
Yokota- I’m here now
Kadena- all the joys of Hawaii with half the asshole and tourism. The cost of living is low too but you still get good COLA.
Misawa- If you like to ski then this is the place.
Anything after that is just shit. From what I heard, it’s expensive as hell to live in hawaii and they give AF folks there shit for COLA. Oh well.
Looking at my lates LES, I got paid $2940.95 for the month and had $1854.55 in deductions (FICA and shit like that). This leave me with $1086.40 a month and I’m an E-5. I get paid half of this on the 1st and the 15th. You can request to get it all at one time if you like. But that’s another story.
ONEZ
I get paid about $2400 a month as an E-5… that’s with BAS, BAH, (I live on post now, but since the DFAC here is… well… it isn’t here, really, I all of the BAS) and COLA. COLA is about $165. BAH is only about $10 since I live on post. After taxes I get about $2000… so roughly $1000 each paycheck.
OmNi - are you sure you get paid only $500 or so each paycheck? Are you sure you’re not counting the midmonth pay in the deduction? On my LES it actually lists my mid-month pay as a deduction… you should be making more than $500 every 2 weeks.
This is why loadmaster is the best job in the airforce…
Ok…
when i was a E-3 on top of my base pay i was getting Flight pay Hazardous Duty Pay and since i was never on base i was paid BAS without meal deductions…
But it doesn’t end there…
Being a Load we go on missions in 2 week intervals… So when we leave Washington we go to germany and stay there thats 99 dollars perdiem or turkey which is 88 bucks perdiem…
When We fly to Afghanastan or whereever we pick up Hostile Fire Pay And since we are in are in there we get our paychecks tax free for whatever month we fly in there…
plus we fly back to germany to claim our 99 perdiem check after every mission…
So as an E-3 with all the Bas Hazard duty and Flight i was pulling in 800 a paycheck without the per diem fro missions…
When you add the two week missions thats at LEAST 900 extra…
On a really good trip you can get as much as 1800 dollars extra…
All tax free…
So when i was actually working i was getting around 2500+ a month cause i got paid every week…
The bad thing about this job is well you don’t have a life…
You are never at home and if you have a family you will never see them…
But how many e-3’s can claim 2500+ dollar tax free paychecks a month…
And it only gets better with rank…
I get paid more than that every 2 weeks. That was just a rough estimate.
ONEZ
heh same here.
though i find the song cheesy and corny, there is something catchy about it.
damn the military sounds like a pretty fun adventure… and a fucking pain in the ass. it sounds like you guys are almost robbed of $$$
Yeah, so, first off, long time no post in this thread. Hi2u.
Now then… it appears that there’s a game development house in Santa Monica looking to hire entry-level game designersand they don’t care if you have a degree. I think I’m going to apply.
Yeah it’s wild. Also what i really thought was funny was how my name kept popping up on ppl’s Elite list when no one gave 2 shits about me in late 02 - really early 04. I’m gone for 8-9 months, I come back and now I get called elite in 05, gtfo.
The Late Night Thread is the friendliest thread on SRK, that’s why i enjoy posting in it. I don’t understand how ppl feel that they can’t post in here, we don’t bite.
So I missed out on the block leave shit mainly because I don’t have any leave days cause I used them a month ago. So now I’ll be chillin working S3 or some shit for this week. Until everyone in A co comes back. Everyone here is mad chill and it’s really relaxed. The 1SGT is cool and stuff.

Ok then.
I’ve been up all night and am trying to stay up for the next couple hours to leave for Brooklyn. I want to get madd sleep on the bus.
Yay, I did it :razzy:**
Sleeping on a bus is annoying for me because i wake up with my neck hurting and stuff like that. So, what are you going to Brooklyn for, and how long is the bus ride?
Well since you’ve been up all nite that means you can shift your sleeping hours to how you want them right? All I know is that yesterday I was operating on pretty much no sleep at all, and just fucking fell out around 9:30pm and woke up periodically until I just went to sleep flat out around 11 or 12. And got up at 530 today.
:amazed: good job. See, check yourself, no teeth marks?
I’m so comatosed I don’t really know what you meant by all that So I’ll just say that my baby niece is getting Christened, my dad’s Haitian side of the family all live in Brooklyn or Miami basically and my sister and I are bussing…over there from Richmond for said Christening. My dad and my other sister are driving from Michigan to meet us there. Bus ride is about ten hours long, not including traffic since it will be Friday night  I’d love to meet any and all of yas from NY but it’s a trip with my dad which means no leaving my brother’s house for feer of teh goons -_-
Not from you anyway
Yeah, sometimes. The only up side to this is that we get free medical and dental. However, this care is usually given to someone who has about the same amount of medical knowledge as you. FUN TIMES!!!
