Hahah, just think if everyone else in the world “pulled themselves up by their bootstraps” and lived like Americans did(which may not be a delusion considering several of the fastest growing economies are in Africa, and Asian countries are especially parlaying their increasing African connections and partnerships), lmao, we’d be screwed even faster than we are now.

Remember, that data is all by medians and averages; most people world-wide cringe at the very THOUGHT of that much waste.
We all know someone like that, though; just be mindful of how much and what you toss out without thinking, really!

I just heard about this when I getting my hair done today. At one point I was worried about going to Africa, then after those dangerous thoughts died down I wanted to go again, and now I don’t again.

I agree that a lot of the reasons that disease is such a problem in the continent is because people are so uneducated there. There’s a myth there that having sex with an albino will cure you of AIDS. The motherland needs help so damn bad, but I feel that the majority of the outside world still have that “Exterminate All the Brutes” mentality.

I also find this view quite humorous as there is an extensive tradition of learning throughout the continent, with Africa at times being a center of education(whether within the schools of Ancient Egypt, the Library of Alexandria, or Timbuktou in modern-day Mali). It really isn’t a case of “dem Africans are so uneducated” as much so there’s a sizable amount in several areas that are uneducated and thoroughly bathed in fundamentalist religious dogma(rife with absolutely crackpot superstitious beliefs such as having sex with infants to cure AIDs for instance)

Seriously, this darkest Africa crap has to stop. There are places in Africa that are horribly uneducated, horribly mismanaged, rife with corruption, etc. Yet to make blanket generalities about Africans being uneducated is just ridiculous.

I was already aware of all that stuff, but I was definitely referring to those areas, not everyone. I say similar stuff about the US as well, but there’s no confusion there.

But thats the thing these diseases aren’t that old. The first case of aids in the U.S. was in the 80’s and ebola I believe they said in the 70’s. Clearly people had been traveling to and from Africa for centuries while the same practices of eating bush meat and keeping wild monkeys as pets was going on

HIV is a very old virus, obviously the one that made the jump from primate to human isn’t.
Ebola (the one that kills people) is new, but but the family of viruses must be old if monkey’s have immunities to the virus.

IIRC, when a new virus is introduced into a population that has never experienced it, there’s around 90-95% mortality rate, the second generation of survivors have slightly higher rate to survive it, and so on. Eventually the immunity is permanent, sort of how chicken pox isn’t that dangerous to humans.

that was the exact thing i watched lol

but yeah, I had a teacher once who was a true inspiration. Studied world religions and had several PhD’s, and taught high school at an ESL school, teaching immigrants their first taste of English. Dude was also one of the top Chess players I have ever seen. Could beat you in a game while not even sitting at the table, but at his desk marking student’s homework. Just calling out his moves for you. He mentioned when he did work in Africa, AIDS was such a huge problem not because it existed, but because people were so poorly educated they couldn’t even fathom it or worse yet, literally didn’t know it existed in the first place.

Coincidentally it probably came from poorly handled bushmeat. Kill monkeys and chop em up and handle AIDS infected monkey meat, while your hand is full of open wounds and you probably have never owned soap ever.

I always forget how fucking incredible Chappelle was. I need to see some new standup from him :frowning:

What’s your definition of a very old virus? The first case of HIV-1 was in the 50’s, so yes SIV existed before then but that’s my whole point. People had been eating and making pets out of them long before then

We know that new viruses new to a population have high mortality rates, I’m not disagreeing with that I’m saying we where more inexperienced to it decades ago but even with the new technology and medical treatment today the problem is seemingly worse

Granted when doctors in Africa admit they eat bush meat regardless of research saying its causing Ebola you have a big fucking problem

different environmental factors have a large impact on these things. Increased level of radiations, a sudden population growth an mass migration due to civil war etc. Those things didn’t exist before the 40’s in africa like they did after the 40’s. Hell small mutations in said viruses occur within the host body that’s immune to it, it could have been a one in a million chance that somebody happened to eat the wrong animal, or the virus spread within the animal community. we wouldn’t be able to determine if that’s the case, but it is a possibility, these viruses (ones that kill people) are found in said host animals.

The monitoring of these animals and what viruses they contain is an even newer science than these viruses. Mutation at that level happens to rapidly an would (I think) be difficult, if not impossible, to trace when they happened

Shit happens for no reason at all all the time. Besides this conversation is moot, we all know homosexuals created aids through their acts of sodomy. The watchtower says its true so it must be

Yep.

Donlad Trump reported as a source; his own twitter, lol
Maybe they pick that live coverage back up after the weekend.
That big graphic from the pamphlets or whatever is hard to grab and put up in here, about 2/3rds the way down there.

Right, look at this dude and his soap and water and rubbing alcohol. And one of those guys did board a plane, but within Africa, from country to country.

_

Wow they really think that one example with the kids means there’s a small chance of viruses spreading on airplanes

This is why shit might end up happening because people act like its such a long shot then get careless and sloppy. Just a few weeks ago we found out the CDC had gotten so lazy they were using fucking sandwich bags to contain anthrax samples. And these are the people telling us not to worry

reuters.com/article/2014/07/14/us-usa-anthrax-idUSKBN0FJ29X20140714

All those disease outbreak movies might end up happening Lol

Looks at the beatdown in the beginning…then the comeback Well…that certainly escalated quickly. Crouching coward, hidden badass.

Donald Trump is right though. How the hell we supposed to trust Atlanta to keep ebola quarantined when Gucci Mane released 8 mixtapes from jail?

That very same CDC has the last living cases of smallpox bacteria in it’s labs.

Yeah.

Why do they even keep these disease preserved? They should be destroyed completely after you get them in a contained and remnant state.
