i consider myself lucky when it came to winning that tourn. truth is if you aspire to win any tourney you have to be ready to play anyone and i really dodged some bullets sinister x and jerry2bad being 2 of them.You guys are great players
I find it funny that u call those games non-fighting games and broken.
most of them are what made the community all over the world what it is today.
especially in the RGV.

I was the one who tore both laredo mvc2 players a new one without even trying.
when we went to laredo we weren’t playing HDR, we played orginal ST with HDR graphics.
beleive or not most of those games are what we call actual skill unlike
Super Spam fighter 4,
Roll canceling, Red parrying , Wavedashing, Guard breaks, kara cancels, etc
I am sure most of us actual fighting fanatics can comment

someone from laredo forgot his name, the one I played in mvc2
got my phone# mentioned he would drive to the RGV to get some games in on these older games since laredo doesnt much of a scene other than SSF4.

I used to be a top 5 CvS2 player in Laredo, untilled they took it out of the arcade,that’s when I retired from cvs2.
Which brings up another issue, Laredo has no arcade.
I used to be good at HDR when it came out then SFIV came out and there was no reason to go back to HDR.
Another City vs City 5v5 would be dope if this won’t be closed to just houston and Laredo

not having an arcade is not an issue,
if you have love for a game, then keep the game alive within your own scene,
console is what has kept older games alive and thats what I have done and has been successful.

All I’m gonna say is the way this thread is starting off is bad. Nothing but bickering and defending your tournament by making the people who went sound like the bad guys especially when they have legit concerns. As a director you take the criticism good and bad and move on. Being newer to the scene then most places you can’t be doing that.
Oh and for the record a lot of these old school players have moved on to SF4, T6, and HDR (HDR is a new game, as a ST player trust me they are not the same at all). And not having an arcade is not an issue since console is the standard now a days. Lots of cities don’t even have arcades to go to.

There is nothing broken about Marvel. It is balanced in its own way. Its only percieved as broken because noobs can’t use the in game tools to their advantage.
BnB in Marvel = 60% damage
Wake up Ultra from Vanilla Sagat = 60%
Good read in Marvel = Maybe infinite if not BnB for sure, round win.
Good read in Super4 = FADC combo to ultra, round win

Anyways, I respect what you guys are trying to do out in Laredo for your community. Hopefully for your next tournament the other games can actually hit and get a turn out. Now that you all are signed up on here you are sure to attact more people for Tekken and Marvel hopefully. Keep it up. Demon Jim and I are the basic tournament hosts for the RGV so if you have any questions or what advice for future events hit us up via PM or in the Harlingen thread. Also, the mod from this section Shin-Rotendo [K-Town] can give you all good input for future tournaments as well.

Alright, ok true, I didn’t start this forum to sh*t talk, thank you all for coming, and thanks for the feedback.
We will try and work out the kinks for our next laredo tournament. We are listening!
Since I seen that not only Laredo is coming in here, I will take this opportunity and ask what other games you guys the out of towners would like us to run next time? However like we have stated before, laredo mostly plays super street fighter iv, so there are no promises of a big turnout for certain games. That’s just how it is down here.

alot of people used to play CvS2 at the arcade, they took it off the arcade like 5 years ago or something like that.
arcade would get packed just for that game, lines were long, and would stay that way on weekends for about 7 hours.

I used to play T3, alot, loved it, tekken 4 came out, didnt like it, 5, didnt like it, 6 is ok, i guess. i only play casualy, and dont take this game seriously (thats just me)

Played a few months online, found this game riddled with bugs, and glitches, still palayed, it loved it best thing to happen to fighting games on current consles (at the time).

Soul Calibur 4
SC4 Main: Darth Vader
First Current Gen Fighting game to hit PS3 with online play, and had Vader in it? im sold.
played it for a couple of months, was getting good at it with Vader. Online code was to sloppy but it was all that was available at the time as far as current fighters was concerned.
Status: Retired(HDR came out after being delayed for about a year, wich had better online code, and it was SF, i love sf, so that was the end of my SC4 run, but i still enjoy playing matches offline.)
Mortal Kombat 2
MK2 Main: Liu Kang
Back when MK2 first came out I dominated my local arcad scene. this is due to the fact that at our arcade the block button was broke on the player 2 side, no one wanted to put in their quarter to be killed by player 1, exept me, i took up the challenge, and as a result used offence as a defence, without the block button i had to counter attack and start learning frame data very persise.
PSN PLAY:
MK2 was re released with online play for the PS3 For around $5, online was a whole other level of gameplay, i adjusted and climed to the top of the Nation’s top online players list, one of the top Liu Kang players, and top 10 in the nation.
I played this game Daily for hours on end for about a year and a half online.
Status: Retired (when SC4 came out, also Jax Multiple Ground and Pound Glitch was being abused by everyone that and sub-zeros Infinite Fatality time glitch was just to much for me). to this day i still get people sending me challanges though PSN wanting to play the best.

In the top 5 of laredo CvS2 Arcade Scene till it got taken off the local arcade(since then retired from it).

Bison was the shizz back in CE, i used to spend only 1 quarter during my High school Lunch break, defeating all challangers, till they would turn off the machines so we would not skip our next class playing.

Sengoku Basara X-cross, Fate Unlimted:Codes, KOF 2002 UM tougeki ver. , Tekken 6 , ssfiv, sc4 i’m down for playing almost anything cept for mvc2. I never picked up the game although i wish i did it seems intense.
