Labwork: Tests, results, discoveries

Why would you do normal palm and then use two metres to FADC to U2, when you can just use one bar and do EX palm into U2?

EDIT: did you mean BnB>EX palm>palm>FADC>U2? That is three bars, is the damage difference worth the extra two bars?

You’d want to use it for hit confirms and things that can’t be punished with EX Palm.

(cl. st. mp (5 fr), cr. hp (6 fr), st. hp (7 fr iirc), close cr. mp (5 fr) are the only buttons that will net you EX Palm > U2 save the opponent just giving you a free punish. (Back throw is 5 frames)

So anything that’s less than 5 frames you are only able to get (light attack, cr. mk) > FADC Tatsu if you want to punish with Ultra.

I was waiting for those points to be made thx Massa.

I wondered the same thing.

I"ve been thinking about that, and one good reason to do so is that it nets a ton of stun. we’re talking 800 or more from mid screen. which means that lots of the cast would be one overhead away from stun.

Max damage is always best, but you’re not going to always be able to punish or confim with something that leads into EX Palm.

Personally, I won’t even FADC Denjin unless it k.o.'s them.

My goal is to stun them, and let them eat a full one.

godo point.

usually, my goal is to leave their stun bar a hit away from full, and then stun them with one hit and kill them.

Sometimes. This isn’t something I always do. If the extra damage will kill or stun/get them very close to stun then I say it’s worth it. If I’m playing a match where I don’t use much meter and/or Gouken is very good at zoning (say, Guile) and want to extend my life lead then I say it’s worth it. Meter use doesn’t exist in a vacuum, there a ton of different factors to consider. The Gouken-Guile matchup is a good example of a fight where I say using this makes sense. You don’t need very much meter against Guile (I think I super vs guile more than any other matchup) and the matchup is mostly a fireball fight so getting a little extra damage is really valuable. YMMV, but in some matchups and at some points it’s worth it.

An example of a matchups where I’d basically never do this except to end a round:

Cody: EX Tatsu is valuable for anti-airing his knife jump-ins, he has 1050 stun so it’s hard to stun him to begin with.
Dudley: 3 meters for ex tatsu fadc is good for stopping pressure, ex tatsu is also a good anti air. meter is very valuable here.

Brief interjection: Ex tatsu fadc cross under hk tatsu is godlike. Put their ass in the corner with 280 less life. Carry on.

As far as canceling palm to denjin, I’m pretty sure that you can’t fadc a palm midscreen and land ultra on Blanka and most likely other characters. It’s also an insane waste of meter. You do almost the same damage and stun with the old bnb to denjin with 5hits.

Well just for shits n giggles I got it on Cammy mid-screen w 5 hits, just to say it can be done. I thought somehow I’d net 6 hits off denjin but that was wishful thinking.

But yea waste of meter no doubt and in some situations can be useful

Right.

I see people end with Denjin after a long combo and it Stuns them and I just smh.

You have to be efficient on offense when using Gouken. When he starts doing long combos, it’s really not worth adding Ultra on to it unless it kills them.

I will never scale into ultra , w gouken he just does too much damage /stun to throw it away

If it kills them then yeah… Imma hit them with it lol

I will combo into ultra anytime I can get the stun over 700. any combo into ultra that does over 700-800 stun does around 500 damage, and my next hit will stun them. at this point they have around 400 health left at maximum. Most combos starting with j.hp will deal around 400 damage with one ex bar, which means they are dead.

So that’s my plan.

Long time no see, I’m back.

Can I do that on both sides of the screen or just left side???

And the previous video too, just right side none left? Thank you

You can do this setup on both side. However some characters show different result on each side.
e.g.) Sweep - Dash -j.MK on Fei-long
Right side corner : Hit front and land behind j.MK
Left side coener : HIt front and land front j.MK

OK thank you so much!!!
