Shame on you for dropping Gouken!!! Haha, no just joking man. I dont think there’s a one stop shop for beginners but Black Tooths tutorial covers all beginner stuff as well as some intermediate and even high/advanced tactics. You mentioned that you used to play him so I’m guessing you’re not a total beginner. If thats the case, and in my opinion, you should browse Phunkism, stiffler2100, Binkyfingers(IAM), and Gaku08shimouta(Gaku)'s channels and create a playlist for yourself over combing through written data. Between those guys you will have all the Option Selects, Safe Jumps/Dive Kicks, resets and setups you’ll ever need lol. Most of what is written is in video format these days and if its not you can hit me up and I can capture whatever you have a question about. The only stuff we have in chart form are things like if U1 will hit or not after ex palm and things of that nature because its better/easier to read/grasp in chart form over video. I dont think we have one place to grab all of the stuff we have for Gouken for beginners…although thats not a bad idea.
I put most of the data here besides the resets… b/c only a few actually work without being punished.
Be sure to click the spoilers for the character specific stuff… mainly for shoto’s. Too bad this thread is almost at the bottom of the forum page…
This playlist sounds pretty sweet!!! LOL
Lol, this has got me thinking I should create a thread and just compile EVEYRTHING. Maybe order/separate it into beginner, intermediate and advanced for ease of browsing.
I would really appreciate this !!!
I am already working my way through all the youtube videoes and channels, but having it compressed in one thread would be simple amazing (and would deserve a “sticky”). It is a huge help for new players having a list of all the set ups ect. and also a link to a video that shows it in action. I unfortunately dont have the time to do this … work, wife, sports … u know …
Maybe only a coincidence, but do you live in Germany and we met on the FFM Tourney?
Sooo anyone ever use hk gf dive kick after the f.throw setup? I’ve been using this lately and it seems to be working slightly better than the mk version. Because the hk version travels farther faster, you land quicker. The thing with the mk version is that (when online), I never know just how safe the kick is until it hits. Sometime I get the faux, sometimes I get the 4 frame safe jump and other times I flat out get hit. So I went into the lab and started messing with hk gf kick after the f.throw and at first its a bit harder to get down because its essentially a faux…and for at least about 4-5 frames. Once you learn the timing its easy as pie and imo opinion more practical. If you do it frame perfect you land about 3-4 frames early and can set up a counter hit, you can slightly delay it to land right before for some oki (ex gf flip maybe), or you can delay it the 5-6 frames to make it an absolute safe jump (which is what we’re going for anyway). It relies on more manual timing but because it leans more to the empty jump side of things I never run the risk of getting hit out of it by something 4 frames like Guys EX Spin Kick or Yun’s up kicks which I seem to be having a bit of trouble actually safe jumping these online.
Idk, It just seems to be working out for me really well and I’m wondering if anyone else has tried it out and have had similar results?
Yeah you pretty much nailed it. I use this alot with point blank EX Flip too…
Dirty…
do you dash or just straight forward df kick???
walk up a bit and straight forward kick… You really don’t even have to walk if you time it correctly.
So you’ve been doing the faux and ex flipping? I’ve been doing that to Seth a TON
I stick to the setup though and dash after the f.throw only because people know the setup which allows for that extra layer of oki. When they see the dash they know the safe jump is coming. So to faux it and throw or faux it and ex flip and THEN to not faux it and actually safe jump…its just been messing people up lol.
Exactly… it puts you in place for a dirty mix up. There’s a few situations where you can use this.
This was how I found out how to stuff srks with HK GF. LMAO…
Goukens GF is like another style within itself… What other secrets may the vortex hold??? lol
On Seth, Sagat, almost everyone, there is a window where point blank ex flips looks like it’s going to overshoot but you still can grab them in the front. I catch almost every Sagat player with this, it works the same on Seth.
There are some other things too, but I don’t want to bore you guys.
I believe I know what you’re referring to. Point blank ex flip goes up and kinda behind the opponent but then comes back down in front. But if I’m not mistaken it only applies to the slide which is stupid to me. I think I tried dive kick and it came down behind as well as throw. Sucks we can only get sweep off of such an ambiguous looking setup
Anybody know what cl.st.hk is on counter hit?! I think I got something…
You can get full combo and pick side you land on lol. Keep trying different times to activate your dive kick. When you at right overhead you should be able to cross up… You can delay the dive kick for a pretty long time too.
Test against standing and crouching and early vs late.
In theory according to data its +8(+7vs crouchers), but im on tab and cant test veracity. Incide tally i also have no idea what of mine just got quoted to get that question :3
Ah thanks. I went and did some testing last night and even with all that frame advantage you’re not close enough to land anything solid. Makes the cr.lk link easier but thats it lol. I figured we might could get something in the corner but its the same deal…just too much push back. LOL I knew you or IAM would know so I found one of your posts from another thread and just threw it in here so you would get an alert.
I do it all the time but tbh its on accident. But since I’ve been seeing it work so much I KNOW its gonna crossup now. If they’re in jab range, crouching and you ex flip, if you delay it it crosses them up crouching LOL. Its so weird. I havent actually played with it in training though, I just know how it goes in matches. Dirty little thing like you said lol
Ah well then it did exactly what it needed to. Though after that post I discovered I can press the arrow in the quote to be taken to the origin ^^
