I’ve felt the same way man. That’s primarily why I haven’t been playing my Judo, because it’ll all be for nothing. I got a taste of what to expect and I’m pleased, but still I can’t bring myself to do anything more than big matches with talented players for now for more than a few rounds.
Man so i made a TKD character after playing MT for awhile and noticing all these great moves and wishing MT wasn’t so shitty. I thought maybe it was just me…
But WOW MT SUCKS. I dunno anything about TC, but jesus even without being able to buy 66kk with TKD, so much fukcing easier to use. 44k+g beats like any other characters long range options, it’s so frustrating to deal with using MT’s short range crappy ass moves. 6kk is such a good mid. Also can anyone confirm if TKD’s 66kk launcher is P counterable (or can you duck the 2nd kick on block)? Most of the time it hit after blocking it, but it could’ve just been the other guy mashing. Also is MT’s 66k+g safe on block? Because seriously if it isn’t there is nothing making this character good.

The only good thing is his PK, which every fucking one else has, and when it hits it pushes them back out of his only effective range (right up in their face).
PPK gives good + frames on hit, but it’s all high so if they sweep or crouch and launch you’re fucked.
Even if it does hit, what can I do? I can only force 6p or 6k i believe, maybe 64k+g. 6p4p is punsihable on block, 64k+g is punishable on block, 6k pushes them back out of his mixup range, and his lows are slow and don’t crouch (not to mention 2k+g doesn’t give advantage on normal hit).
WHY IS MT SO SHITTY!?!?
I can use TKD using 5 moves: 6kk, pk, 2k+g, 44k+g, and throw. That’s not even including a launcher, but that’s about 5x better than MT with like all the moves.
Yup, it’s how I got to lv 12 so quick. It wasn’t until 10 did I go to the training mode to find out what the launchers were and juggles.
66KK has some nice frame advantage as well as pk most of my matches were just mixing up between those two attacks and the throw with guaranteed 2K.

Yeah, stuff like this make me wished I didn’t pick MT in the first place for the second closed beta. Shitty lows that can’t go under high attacks and magically whiffs despite the fucking leg making contact with the other guy’s legs, nerfed launchers from the first beta, and crap mids until you unlocked the higher level stuff. But the sad thing is, IMO a fully-equipped MT is probably only gonna be equivalent to a basic level TK… And that’s even including the bounce combos.
But then I realized that I’m forced to play MT defensively in order to even have a shot at winning against competent players, plus the lag factor = good luck trying to play perfect D with MT…
The only plus is at least he has a launcher from crouching position (FC, 3K+G) to stop high-string spammers. But it’s still not enough because that shit has like NO range at all (forget doing fancy Korean maneuvering into crouch-dash Rising Knee…), and in the event you do managed to get point blank in the opponent’s face and they happen to block the knee, you just ate a string, lost your initiative and, you’re back on the defensive again… Plus, sometimes I’ll get jabbed out of that shit in mid-animation as well… Bleh. There’s only so much I could do by mashing on 2P until I finally get the initiative…
IMO, style tiers for the CB so far: TK > BJ > JD > TC > MT. Arguably you could mix up TC and MT, but what TC lacks (decent juggles), they have decent mixups and a counter, plus they get mad frame advantage on simple shit that it’s unfair for MT…

Everything is OK/good besides crap damage on everything they do.
Endgame (level 20+) supposedly has JD = MT > BJ = TK > MC thanks to the top two having half life combos. I believe GalzPanic made this observation on the Korean KH a while back.
What half-life combo does JD run once they have all the skills? I thought their combos were nerfed from the korean game to now…
Also, wtf is the timing on JD 46P+G -> H? I never get it to land cleanly and practicing it in training is a total travashamockery.
Also maybe I’ve only played shitty TCs, but at point-blank MT 6P4P > any goddamn mixup they try. I know it can’t be that easy but I know TK and even other MT users gave me far more trouble than TC players across the board.
Yeah but how much of that is going to get changed? I really really really don’t fucking like the idea that the Korean version of the game is DONE pretty much, and our version is busy taking away MT combos and adding in 1-button supers.
Yeah I know this is an old post but I wanna reply to it.
Low P and high P in general are just fucked up in all the wrong ways right now. High P seems to be close to even on hit, and I’m pretty fucking sure low P is actually disadvantage on counter-hit. And then like you said, stuff that’s supposed to counter them doesn’t really work right at all. Backdash -> 6k with MT is actually too slow; they need to make backdash cancellable by moves from the very first frame.
Sidestepping is sort of OK imo. Basically I think if a move comes out after your sidestep ends, it’ll track you. Overall sidesteps work well enough for me, and I can use evade -> throw escape and it works just like in VF. The only thing I don’t like is they seem to have a little execution time? Maybe it’s just the lag but I’ve been launched right after I input a sidestep.
Not only that, but backdash needs to be directly cancellable into sidestep. Without boxstep I have no fucking clue on how a MT is supposed to get in on a competent TK user who is smart with 44k+g or 2k+g.
This is actually in the Korean version. All of the stages (there’s a lot more in that version) have walled counterparts.
All those half life combos aren’t present in the lower levels. Getting to the higher levels with MT is incredibly hard when everything people does just rapes you.
JD had 1/3 life combos in this CB. At level 12. Ask Shin_Taiyo :’(

I’ve noticed that you really have to work now to get a win with MT. Me likes…in some ways.
So characters ARE getting wiped before OB? Excellent.
While TC is still low tier, I’ve done well as one when going against TKD with the reversals. 90% of the stuff TKD does is high, so both 4P+K and P+K are easy to land.
Also TC’s PPP string out prioritizes other styles punch strings, except for judo’s jabs and MT’s 6P4P. Even if the first whiffs, the second punch will go through whatever they were doing. That PPP string is the only viable move TC has to play offensively. Everything else is just too damn slow.
And the lack of a launcher on hit or a good string to follow it up with is crippling when you already do shit damage on the ground. The only launcher TC has is wave break, which now only launches on counterhit, and the best combo to follow it up, PPP+K, only does 1/8 of their bar in damage.
im loving this game right now… not great at it obviously, but hey, what can an MT do? :wonder:
ive acctually found myself smearing most people who play me as of now… (80% win) but then again, im only level 4, so its probably easy till 5-10 where i start getting rocked.
also, i found getting to level 4 pretty easy. does the curve pick up later on?
