Korean arcade parts discussion

@Agieze you have valid points and yes some of them has to be something like that for sure. But i am 100% the lever is playing tottaly diffrent than all those HelpMe Crowns i have at home and bought from diffrent shops.
Every single Korean player i know though and i can back it up as of LowHigh , Kkokoma , qudans , ji3moonace , they say HelpMe Lever is not the same as 309 helpme . all within korea when they want a helpme lever they go to helpme shop even if it takes weeks to create the lever . today on stream i asked qudans because he has lever problems and wants to change why he doesnt buy one and he said only good helpme lever is from helpme itself the rest feels bad quality.
Nontheless my heplme levers versions are beeing ordered by my side ill make a comparison and hopefully a video back to back . with the #real# one and the crown one . because i cannot play with the Crown 309s i have at home for the life of me.

Guys, does anyone know the correct mounting thickness for a Crown 309 with a flat Japanese plate (no collar)? I’ve 5/8" MDF with 3mm plexi, and I’m guessing I need to take 1/8" out of the MDF.

Also, is there a Makestick contact here? I’d like to order the HelpMe, but they only show it with a red top and I’d like black. And I’d like to confirm that their Japanese plate is the totally flat one. Here in the UK it seems to be called the 309FJ-JMS-ST35 HelpMe. I dunno if that’s with A2s or A3s.

[edit]

Oh, and can I buy official bolts for mounting? I’m planning to countersink the boltheads under the plexi. Thanks.

the plate is the same thickness as a myoungshin plate or any other crown plate you may have 2-3mm collarless 309fj is completly flat yes as for mounting height in your stick thats down to preference as you have that option
arcadeworlduk stock the same lever with all colours it would be quicker to order from there and more than likely will come with A3 switches

I know it’s down to preference, but I figure there must be an official height for cabs? The collar on the Korean plate’s 15mm and about 2mm of that seems visible above the panel, giving a mounting depth of 1/2". But without that collar I wouldn’t have a guide, and it’s a lot easier to remove MDF than add it back in!

@Marios — what’s the price for the HelpMe direct to the UK? I’m looking to order a black one with an FJ plate, four nuts and countersunk bolts for a 1/2"+ panel, and the modular IST-Brook board with its cables ($46.50 from Makestick). Although in your clip he says: ā€œI never believe ISTmall is fakeā€. So it sounds to me like the IST copies are legit, but just not checked by him.

Does anyone know if that Brook board’s okay, by the way? I don’t need the Switch and Xbox support of the Universal. Otherwise I’ll buy the PS4 one with terminals.

@Futurespect i have no idea , btw the clip its for his levers doesnt talk for all istmall , the helpme levers that istmall and the rest are selling are fake he says

But how do you infer that from his words there? ā€œI never believe… ISTmall… is fake.ā€

He says the last bit in an accusatory tone, I agree, but was there any more than that? It sounds like it’s missing a qualifier before ā€œI never believeā€, as in he’s never believed they sell his version. But from my point of view in the UK, it’s cheaper to order from IST than anywhere else, and they’re the only ones I’ve found offering the 309 with the FJ plate.

Does HelpMe use anything special in his? Panasonic or GSM switches, do we know? Because if IST’s 309s have 16.5mm actuators then I can’t see how ā€˜wrong’ they can be. Bad grommets, I suppose. I’d pay the extra if anyone can hook me up with a direct import from the man himself, otherwise it looks like I’ll have to take a punt on Makestick.

@Futurespect yeah some parts are missing because it was me chating him in the chat , if you see the full vod ull understand he just got mad because of some points another member mentioned before in the previous page he has valid points but mainly because the lever gets bad reputation because everyone outside of korea buying 309 HelpMe and they think its HelpMe’s lever. in reality if you ask any korean streamer or any tekken player they seperate them its 309HelpMe , and HelpMe lever. HelpMe is the ā€œfamousā€ one in korea . and yes bad grommets is a thing , i am not sure what he is actually doing i have few people training in Korea atm before evo japan so they will go and buy it and he will build it infront of them , and i have ordered few from the man hiself with differ varations . he is using gersung microswitches because panasonic are no longer viable . although if u send him your set he will add them since he believes the lever plays a lil bit better with the am51630 just abit .also he is using custom made bathtub rubbers the people in chat translated i guess its a bad translation , i guess its just selfmade ? PM me if you need anything

So is the HelpMe lever another Myoungshin-based mod? Or is it still a modded Crown?

It’s still a crown 309 @ā€œmasked riderā€

Hi lever lovers. I just wanted to give everyone an updated review from a newer players perspective on @wazwuz 's golden fanta builds.
I’m going to include some personal stuff so new players that are trying to learn stick get an idea of the early journey since most of you guys seem like pros or at least long time players. I’ve noticed quite a few n00bs coming to the thread so hopefully this helps someone.

By newer player, I mean I have been using fightsticks for about 2 years now. I have been playing fighting games since SFII. But, I didn’t grow up anywhere near a scene and only got to play these games in arcades a dozen times. So all my experience before this was pad and console with friends and in college. I never had to get good because online was non-existent to trash and apparently so were my friends.

To start off with I bought my first stick for SFV release in Feb 2016. I finally had time to get good at FGs and I’m pretty handy so I built a wood stick that can hold both a Sanwa and a Fanta lever and tried them. I found I did better with the Fanta early on so I stuck with it. Then I ordered a Fujin V2 lever from makestick. This was my favorite.

When I ordered the first golden Fanta kit from wazwuz it immediately helped me out. I play Dictator and Guile mainly. So adding in the 70 shore grommet made it have a close tension to the Fujin which I liked because it made my charges faster. Having the Larger Shaft helped a lot also, so when I panicked I didn’t throw the lever as far. For the actuator I preferred the 15.5mm actuator and my Fanta has the Panasonic switches.

Then Tekken 7 dropped in early 2017 and was my first Tekken since I played the original on my friends PS1. I immediately picked it up and loved it. It became my main game, however it was really hard to play with the setup I was using for SFV, especially trying to KBD. So I built a 2nd stick using a Jasen’s Custom Panzer III Korean case. I used another Fanta and the medium thickness shaft. I put in a 45 shore grommet and the conical actuator. This worked great and made a KBD friendly stick. I learned to KBD proficiently in about 6 months with this setup. By proficient I mean I can confidently use it in matches to get players to whiff and quickly create space. Obviously it isn’t as good as people who have been playing for 10+ years, but I can use it in matches.

Last I ordered a Golden Core from wazwuz a couple months ago. This was the best piece of the whole bunch. I can feel even more responsiveness. The ā€œdead zoneā€ in the middle went from an empty feeling wobble to a tight pressure which is definitely preferable to me. I use the medium tension spring he included with it.

From the beginning it took about 10 months to feel good about my stick use in SFV. I mean where I would think about a move (hcb, dp, etc.) and then be able to execute it in match about 90% of the time. I could do combos easily when I started Tekken 7; 14 months into stick use. It took me a month or 2 to learn how to PEWGF at about 75% consistency. With speed I can only reliably get 2-3 PEWGFs in a row as a juggle. KBD was a different monster. It was more difficult than I thought it would be to get consistent with. It took about 6 months of me playing T7 to do this. I guess I should also mention I play about 8-15 hours a week.

Some cons for this setup are the washers and the gold dust. First the washers came all chipped up on the edges. While I think they look good, the chips really bother me so I don’t use them. I would if they were cleaner. As far as the gold dust goes it is from the actuator rubbing against the switch arm. It stopped after a couple months use for me and it didn’t damage anything. Just something to be aware of.

TLDR/Conclusion: I feel the Golden Fanta Kit with the Golden Fanta Core speed up the time it took me to get used to playing on stick and helped me learn techniques easier than using a stock lever. It is definitely a preferable upgrade for any enthusiast and my current favorite.

Thanks. I guess I’ve two options here: try and get the whole stick from HelpMe; or buy a 309 and see if I can buy his replacement parts. The Makestick seems to come with GSM A3 switches. I can’t remember their model, but I had some Panasonics years ago and they were much lighter than Gersungs. Closer to Cherrys.

Anyone ever order from istmall? I’m just wondering how long the shipping is usually to US for a lever

It isn’t myoungshin based. it’s based from crown parts.

most of us would do bad things for one of those, for two I would likely do things I never fathomed. but for 3, i would likely commit hard crime. lol.
Goodluck at EVO JAPAN @blankaex / BoxeR_King!

I’ve been wanting to try a Korean stick for a while, arcade World in the UK now stocks the crown 309 as well as alternative grommets. Just wondering what of the variants do people recommend, and what exactly does the neck on the stick do?

If anyone is interested, SuperHwoarang is modifying live on his twitch stream

Should be available on vod later

I would say grommets that are 35A is a good sweet spot for most folks. Not too heavy, not too light. The neck, or collar, is basically the Korean equivalent of a Japanese gate. The collar and the shaft have a more direct relationship with how much travel from neutral to the edge.

Thanks, I like a round or octagonal gate, I also like to bring the travel and throw down quite a bit.

@blankaex when you watched green lever daddy saw the green lever when he was building it what did he saw off? The bumps over the switch placement?

@zero_requiem It was boxer watching, not me. I was curious about what was being sawed off as well but he said he didn’t see it close up, he just saw the levers being taken over to a band saw or something and brought back.
