originally used to talk about asians who have only recently migrated to the US.

but it’s also widely used to refer to anyone of any ethnicity that prefers to dress, talk, and act more like people back in their mother countries than blend in to their new environment, no matter how many years it’s been since they migrated.

i also often use it to refer to people who haven’t even migrated yet, i realize. hence my girlfriend here in korea = fob. hahaah

i wanted to go and practice today… instead i was like… on the brink of tears hahaha i did everything right this time. every mistake i made in the past with my ex’s i did right with this girl. only i barked up the wrong tree. like it is IMPOSSIBLE to pursue a future with her.

ANYWAYS, after good looking blanka guy left, i played and got 21 wins against guys who could barely do crouching medium kick into fireball… wow yay me. i’m soooooo GREAT

pintosaur, i haven’t seen you post in a few days… i wonder if you’re hella stressed about your masters degree work. anyway, i was WRONG about the gief combo. here’s a good quote from the gief thread

You can chain these attacks, you still have to link at least second to last hit of these combos (ie the last normal attack before the ex green hand) because you can’t cancel into a chained series of normals into a special move like ex green hand, but you can cancel into a linked move into a special move.

The difference between chaining and linking is that moves that are designed to chain, that is cancel their animation right into each other, will combo into each other if you just mash the button, whereas a linked move is a move that comes after you wait for the previous move’s animation and recovery to finish completely. Zangief’s jabs and shorts are chainable, which makes doing most of these combos easier if you use crouching jab, but if you do chain them, you can’t cancel right from a chained crouching jab into ex green hand, so you have to link the last one before ex green hand. You do this just by waiting for the second-to-last crouching jab to completely finish its animation before you do the last one. If you want to link the whole combo and chain none of it, then wait a longer time between each jab/short to allow each one’s animation to finish before going into the next.

Bottom line, if you want to combo the jab/shorts combos into ex green hand, do the combo slowly and make sure that at least the last normal part of the combo is linked instead of chained.

ok. so BASICALLY, the 3 crouching jabs are CHAINS. but you must LINK the standing LK for the expalm to chain. which means jabjabjab PAUSE and then standing LK. the reason the method i taught to you “seemed” to work was cuz during my anticipation for what i thought had to be a SUPER FAST cancel… i just paused long enough for it to not be a CHAIN but a link. so inadvertently, i caused the combo to work. so just practice delaying the standing short long as possible and you’ll have the combo down like 95% i think within a few tries

also, you should try just doing 3 crouching shorts into ex palm. they are all links so you will eventually get the timing down well. i dunno if it comes out faster than a crouching jab but it hits low and hitting low is really really good IMO.

finally, haha FOBS… d.fox… you seriously don’t know what a fob is? you MUST be like full fledged white or black… cuz any immigrant aside from mexico should know about the term… sadly, I"M THE FOB in korea!!! at least i was. i had the old man haircut with the short hair and spikey bangs… now i just let it grow and basically blend the fuck right in! asian people and their fashion trends… changes like yearly or something. nah, i’m not stressed yet. its still early in the semester.

i was at isu tonight tho. i played 3 games with gief before i lost to a guile and then won 10 straight with abel against really scrubby to competent but not great players. didn’t get too many opportunities to do gief’s combo though. can’t remember why.

anyway, i’m down for games at dongbang or isu pretty much anytime this week. let me know if any of you guys are heading out to either.

isu isn’t THAT bad, it’s just a little messy for a bison player like me. buuut it’s definitely usable. actually, we can go to dongbang… i wanted to visit… eoneo, what do you feel like?? dongbang’s an extra… 20 minutes for me?

i’d still prefer isu lol… no transfers?? no waiting for buses?? super awesome IMO

good games, tao. i got raped 5-0 for two reasons. one, cuz you’re obviously better. and two, i’ve never played a good bison before. i must have eaten at least a dozen free 3x c.shorts xx scissors because i didn’t know FADC, c.short was a safe block string. i kept trying to srk because it works vs ryu hahahah. scrubtastic. i guess bison’s dash is much faster, or his FA does a lot more block stun.

whichever the case, i want a rematch some day, wherever we may be. i hope the stuff with your girl works out!
