Ohhhh, Masters of Teräs Käsi, that game was such ass.
This Hyperstick is kinda cool looking, I’ll pass on it though!

From what I’m seeing from between the threads, actually getting one of these seems like a pretty expensive endeavor. What’s this about paying shipping twice?
Common with 3rd party buyers.
You pay the shipping to the 3rd Party.
You pay the shipping to you.
So what’s a ballpark or the kind of shipping charge could I expect to pay on a fightstick?
No idea, I’ve never been able to stomach paying more than $20 for anything shipped to me.
Let just say that my $40 item became $130.
Holy crap!!
Thread sucks, just playing i just really like that stick and NRX just happened to snatch one up at a really good price.
Prepare to vomit then…
$60 is NOT unusual for an air-shipped item like a console or joystick from overseas.
I wouldn’t pay it for small components shipped continental US BUT given getting the item safely and undamaged in a week versus waiting 2 to 3 months for freighter shipping because I’m a cheap skate…!
I’d pay the $60 to get it quicker… and more safely assured.
I don’t like it but that’s how bad international shipping has gotten.
Heck, shipping costs within the US are ridiculous coast-to-coast as it is.
(I don’t know how they got so bad. Crooked third party dealers? Mafia? Bad governments? I dunno. Cost-of-living hasn’t gone up that much and fuel prices aren’t THAT bad…)
The cost gets passed on to all of us.
That’s why you can’t find a Japanese PS2 for less than $200 (brand new) in the US.
I remember back when costs for Japanese versus US systems were competitive. It used to be a Japanese Sega Saturn ($235) was actually cheaper to buy than an American system ($250) for a while!
Again, this all makes no sense unless there’s a crooked element to this. I’m not going to harp on import shops for things they can’t change. Check on your postal shipping prices and you’ll see that Akihabara and Play-Asia aren’t ripping you off.
Shipping isn’t so bad when it’s just a videogame being exported. You can still get $5-$7 shipping for a disc which isn’t bad for overseas. You get raked over the coals for anything joystick size or bigger. There’s no indication things will ever revert to the “good old days.”
There’s too much business still being done and every indication many consumers are still willing to pay the costs for it.
That is a nice stick from the past…I never even heard of it either. Just like GeorgeC…I was way more into the Saturn for pretty much the same reason he listed. I liked using my Sega Virtua Sticks (the first gen ones).
Here is a question though…what button layout is that on the Hyperstick (some Horis also use that layout). According to the outdated HRAP FAQ floating on the net…sticks that use that layout is Seimitsu 2P? Seimitsu 2P, what? I assume 2P Astro City?
I did some minor research about the Sega Astro City panels.
http://shoryuken.com/f177/why-astro-city-button-placements-different-2p-side-228375/
Even then the button layout doesn’t really resemble either 1P or 2P on the Astro panel. It looks similiar enough to 2P, but the angle of the arc of the buttons is more shallow than on the Hyperstick. Unless my eyes are deceiving me.
This is probably one of the few questions regarding non-tech arcade stuff that’s been bothering me.
slagcoin just lists it as own Layout of Hori.
The Hyperstick layout is definitely the “Transitioning layout sometimes used by Hori”, as slagcoin calls it. The Hori name isn’t anywhere on the packaging, but I wouldn’t be surprised if they manufactured it.
Also, yeah, $60+ shipping for a stick from Japan ain’t no thang, unfortunately >_<
That HYPERSTICK logo on the box is hot! You should vectorize it, NRX.
If you notice player 1 is layout is curved to encourage the player to tilt their body away from player 2 while player encouraged the other player to tilt opposite. A seated astro city cab with straight on layouts would cause 2 people facing straight on to bump elbows. Often the cabs are set up to play opposite sides like a versus city because it is really cramped to place 2 cabinets side by side and have 2 people per machine.
NRX, do what VMS said for JDM!
Too bad my SRK Username is not really three letters.
Hehe…I only linked that to show the little research I did to figure out what button layout the Hyperstick uses. But, more explanations don’t hurt about button layouts. =)
I remember when I was a kid visiting Hong Kong I was always confused on the whole 1 person get a whole cab to themselves since I grew up with American arcades. I thought it was a brilliant idea though.
I went back to slagcoin to reread about the panel layouts. Makes sense now.
So, now, why on the HRAP Faq that floats around the net sticks that use that layout are labeled as Seimitsu 2P side panel layout.
Is this for real? I have a Fighting Stick PS and the buttons and stick feel like mushy knockoff parts like most cheap HORIs have. I guess the stick is OK for a stock HORI but the buttons definitely aren’t any sort of arcade button, look here: http://shoryuken.com/f177/old-old-stick-mod-question-198647/
Because the HRAP FAQ is stupid.
So many wrong things in there.
I have all the correct.
I know the stick is a cheap Hori, but I think that the buttons (in mine) may be Seimitsu. I can’t be sure at the moment because I don’t have a soldering iron to properly remove the buttons.
However my stick has a differently shaped pcb than the one in your link, and the buttons are different as well. The buttons in mine have actual prongs like sanwa and seimitsu that are pushed through the pcb and soldered to it. The buttons feel similar to PS-14-Gs but not exactly the same.
I believe I read somewhere that there are a couple of variants of this stick. At some point I’ll get an iron and take it apart, I’d like to mod it with at least a decent stick.
play-asia is great but most of the “good stuff” is sold out.
whats another good asian online import store?
I mean im good for now and etokki is holding it down for korea. (i just have an itch to get something to fulfill my Dreamcast needs)
