KOF97.. why?

Yeah, I noticed most people try and do dp+D and then run up and do s.C into DM rather than doing the infinite.

best storyline and endings, that’s why

CLOSE THREAD

Yeah, those totally matter when playing a fighting game.

Arguments in support of 97’ being a good game are weak indeed.

Maybe part of this has to do with how many 97 cabs they are in comparison to 98 ones… I’d say in Beijing it seems to be about 2:1 in favour of 97.

thats might be true but if they want to they just have to switch the MVS cartridge from 97 to 98… anyway thats good… i rather play 97 than 98

Id love to see some matches with Joe or Robert in them. I thought Robert was pretty good in this game?

Robert is pretty insane in this game, there are some nice mixups and damage is pretty good for many of the moves too.

I found a really long tourney held in China (Jilin (??),2009.8.2). i finished uploading part.1 (6 files). After this, i’m going to upload the others. Please be patient. Cheers

Someone did this to me a few days ago… and then he was kind enough to teach me how to do it (I use Yama too) :stuck_out_tongue: And… its not as hard as I thought it would be, you don’t have to be incredibly fast to do the cancel. That said its obviously harder under pressure…

Though honestly I’ve only seen a few people be able to use it (not that many people use Yama)

As for whether or not its banned, well, guessing how fast you kill people in 97 anyway I doubt it.

Man, I’m about to leave China and I honestly didn’t get as many matches in the game as I should have (because I waste all my money playing Tekken). Its SO easy to get a match in KOF here and there are so many players who are really, really skilled. You can really learn a lot, I feel even with the minimum time I put into it here, I learned so much about the game from my matches and asking questions then I ever did playing online.

Noo u should have played more!
KOF97 is a lot played in China , and there are a lot of players with good/excellent skills!
The yama infinity is not that simple though… at least for me xD

Kof 97’ is the 1st saga that has ended

kof 97 is the firs kof that the rest of the series is based on. even kof 13 got a lot in commen with 97, but with extras princkled everywhere.

97 is really the game that hooked me into the series. Solid presentation and visuals (some of the best backgrounds in KOF history!)

as someone said. command shortcuts. lol.

Damn l remember seening this gem in my local arcade and it caught my attention the presentations the characters the stage the story was top notch and the first time l started really griding on a game.

97 is probably one of my favorites

I really like 98, but the experience is different.

Gameplay: it felt like it was leading into 98, especially with the extra and advanced modes. I usually use advanced because it reminds me of other fighters I played. Extra is an interesting mode though, which puts desperation move to its name.
I really like the mechanics. One thing I wished for was the ability to do cancels. Comboing would be pretty insane, but I like how everything is. Works great!

Plus, for the introduction of Shingo as a new character. Shingo is awesome, and a very powerful character. He gets critical hits like crazy, too. Playing Shingo in 2003 and XI, he’s pretty awesome. He seems to just keep getting better and better, and his combo possibilities are pretty sweet.

Glad Yamazaki entered KOF. SO glad. He’s great. Most of all, the New Face team. Yashiro is one of my favorite characters, and Shermie is an amazing standout. Chris has some neat combos!

Leona is sweet. Clark ROCKS. many people may not think so, but he’s killer. One of my favorite combos is in 2002 (I think…? His moveset seemed to change abit, especially with his Clark Mount) is b,f LP(I think it doesn’t matter what strength here) - QCF LP (it has to be LP instead of SP or it won’t connect), then QCF P. Then, I throw out any of his throw moves when the opponent is about to get up.
He seemed a little easier to handle in 97.

Orochi Yashiro. UNBELIEVABLE. Probably one of my favorite grapplers.

Experience: The character selection screen. I like how it looks with everyone’s names. The music, great stuff.
My gf was laughing about the animation of Yashiro’s fist in one of the cutscenes because it seemed like it inched on forever, and then suddenly his fist closes.

Favorite characters are:
Shingo
King
Ryo (this is a definite)
Terry
Benimaru (trying to do some more comboing with him lately.)
Clark
Leona
Yashiro
Yamazaki
