I love the whole presentation of 97, even the backgrounds are fun to watch.
Really excellent game, KOF2000 is also my favorite, 97 and 2000 are for me the best 2 KOF.

LOL Don’t EVEN let me get started on how EVIL '97 was. ALL of the characters where too good and thats RARE that you’d find a fighting game when all the characters where that good. Ralf was everyone’s nightmare if he had 2 stocks.

I started from KOF94, but played seriously at 96.
97 was soooooooooo messed up even after 2 weeks of playing competitively here.
I love the presentation/atmosphere and story of 97, but man, that game was screwy. I think 96 is a slightly better serious competition game than 97.
To me, 97 was like a beta for 98. Everything was just made easier and more simple just like what some people already stated in this thread. Alot of damage from combos, infinites, shortcut commands, buffered jabs to specials, etc.
97 > 98 …anyday …why? …i don’t know

I played this game with t3h Mastaroth a couple times on 2DF. I see no reason to play it again.

For serious competition (unless someone says otherwise with a definite answer), KOF96 > KOF97.
In KOF96, everyone was pretty damn strong. I think the worse character in the game was Vice.
In KOF97, a good portion of the characters were absurd, and the remainders who didn’t have damage/glitches/infinites weren’t even on the same level.
That is what I didn’t like about 97. 98 I have issues with already. I knew 97 would be much worse which is why I don’t like it.
If KOF 97 is “great” then I’d really hate to play something that’s terrible in your eyes.
kof maximum impact… terrible… and 97 is great to me because it’s my first kof… i admit at high level play 97 is very one sided… like top-tiers disgustingly rape anyone else… but i played this game at casual level… without much worry about omg this character is top-tier and this one isn’t… so instead of stressing myself out i had the most fun playing any kof game to date…
now that i’m actually playing kofxi seriously i think it is the best kof yet… just cause it’s soo much fun and the tag system makes the battles soo much more intense… but back to 97… it still holds a very high value to me… and i know that 98 is a purified version of 97 with most of the broken stuff taken out but it just doesn’t feel the same and thus 97 is still greater to ME…

96 has like 3 viable characters chin iori clark, nobody else even comes close to them in 96.
At least in 97there’s alot more viable chracters kyo,terry,daimon, orochi chris and yash, iori, robert,beni,mary,choi and others
In general the shittier chracters in 97 can make a better fist of it, say yash v terry in 97 is winnable
In 96 the gap between the top chracters to the bottom is massive, fuck even the gap between the top and the good chracters is massive, Ie krauser mature ralf ryo
