KOF XIV General Discussion - King of Fighters XIV Arcade Ver. Burn 2 Fight cabinets from Taito!

Oh, okay. Neato

Eh, this happened a tiny bit in XIII. Like why play Terry when you can play Shen? Similar gameplans and playstyles but one is a lot better.

@Laban, thanks man!

Because Buster Wolf? In all seriousness I felt like I had better and safer confirms with Terry without full HD. And I never felt comfortable using Shen. It DEFINITELY didn’t feel like SF3: Third Strike where you play Elena for a month, then go try Chun for 30 minutes and realize you wasted an entire month on a worse version of Chun.

Dunno, I wouldn’t really say Terry and Shen Woo are analogous. There are some similarities, but overall they’re different. In that sense, I preferred playing Terry over Shen Woo in terms of neutral game, opening up characters, hard knockdown oki, and being able to reaction Rising Tackle C version against stuff like Hwa Jai qcb+D stuff.

I liked XIII Terry for the most part. My only issue was his damage output. Aside from that, very fun character to me and I personally preferred playing him over Shen Woo. I really liked his normals. And shout outs to Buster Wolf.

Idk, I felt like Shen had way better buttons and could do a lot more without EX.

How come? I felt people people were more afraid of me when I went in with Shen than Terry imo. Shen beats Terry on raw damage and meter efficiency.

Oh, I never drop Mr.Bogard and I liked him too, he just needed to hit harder and not be so dependent on meter.

Just because Shen is a better character than Terry doesn’t mean that he outright makes him obsolete. Terry and Shen do play differently and even perform different roles.

Somewhat related, someone made a video where they did combos in XIII based on Max Mode’s rules in XIV.

Not sure how accurate these are though.

I just like random burn knuckle into EX Geyser and ending combos into EX Crack shoot for safe hop, high/low mix up. Terry’s normal throw is hard knockdown so gives me more safe hops/jumps into high/low mix up. For me, Shen doesn’t really open up characters with a threat until he has HD. Since I’m not a one shot cannon type of player, I don’t want to play that or need meter to have a reversal. Dunno, I’d never pick Shen Woo over Terry in XIII but that’s just me.

Dunno, I think there are too many unknown unknowns. We don’t know if stuff like DPing and going into an airborne DM (like as shown with Andy in XIII) will work the same way or how much damage values have changed between XIII and XIV. There’s another thing of knowing how much EX moves will take a chunk from the MAX mode gauge in XIV that isn’t being compensated in the XIII video. Frionel tries to keep it within 1-2 EX moves but we still aren’t really certain about how the meter consumption and super cancel points will function for sure. And again, damage values aren’t going to be exactly the same nor are the juggle properties of EX moves.

It’s a prediction, but nothing more or less. For me, I take it with a grain of salt. What this video is good for is projecting what BC combos may end up looking like (pace and flow) in XIV, but that’s it.

The real question will be when is the community’s next crack at the game.

Terry and shens preferred spots on a team in xiii were different as well, usually shen was in the last spot.

I preferred Terry 1st or 2nd over Shen, since I felt like Shen didn’t become a massive threat until he had his HD bar filled up.

Its a shame they didnt actually use Just Defend instead of this new Just defense which sounds shit. I would actually have brought this game as I played with Kgroove in CVS2 just because of this reason. They should have capitalised on that man.

It seems they are more & more open to us.

Looks like SNK is assembling quite a tram for this game. They are seriously going all-out with KOF14

All aboard the KoFXIV tram!

Putting JD in KoF would be terrible. Not being able to have consistent means of pressure would make the game feel terrible. It seems like they understand that as well since the way they talk about it, that type of JD mechanic is out of the question.

I agree with JohnGrimm. If y’all really want ā€œtheā€ Just Defend, wait for MOTW2. At this rate with the Chinese buyout, closing the pachislot division, and reassembling the old team, I think it’s an inevitability. LAST BLADE 3?!?!?!

And I’m just here waiting for another SamSho.

Oda worked on Garou, and commented/shared a post of someone who loves Last Blade. I think Laban is on to something here.
