I really like how they updated MuiMuiâs design for this game. Her colors and proportions make her look like she fits in this world, as opposed to being more overly-anime bright and colorful, clashing with the rest of the designs more. Makes me how that Love Heart can make just as solid a transition.
As a more mature design that sits somewhere in inspirations between B.Jenet and Whip, she could be as well received as Luong if they present her right. Muiâs ties to the dark Pachislot days of SNKP donât seem to be affecting her reception in any real negative ways; she stands on her own as a character, which is good to see.
I hope itâs kind of like Hanzoâs in Samsho (Or Psylockeâs in the Capcom Marvel games), where you can choose where to appear with the button you press, but the initial presentation is still always the same, leading to a bit of mixup. I can see him having the quick-movement style pressure that Lin and Foxy have in 2K2um due to this.
Convince me how sheâs not a moeblob. What are her unique defining qualities beyond the archetype of âcute Chinese kongfu girlâ? I just donât see it. You disagreed and you didnât provide any reason at all. How am I supposed to see your point if you donât say it?
Not that it will change your opinion on her, but no she is not a moeblob. While she is a traditional kung fu fighter, she also inherits a dragon spirit and has dragon based moves along with a fire element. Thatâs why sheâs called the Dragon Gal.
She also has a dragon form (not shown in the trailer) where she is even more fast, strong, & powerful.
The main character of the âDragon Girlâ popular pachislot series is a little pretty girl always full of energy.
Kung fu expert and last descendant of a dragon lineage, she goes on a long journey in âKOF XIVâ in search of secret treasure containing an extraordinary power.
KUKRI
Mysterious fighter working in the shadows for a secret society, Kukri fights off his opponents with its atypical movements and its sand powers!
He is also one of the members officially invited by the organizer of the KOF XIV tournament.
I was just about to note the same connection. I suspect that the Latin girl isnât one and the same person, but perhaps the designer is just repurposing old designs that he still likes but never got a chance to fully use, which happens quite a bit. Same goes for Kukri.
Dragon power is part of the Chinese stereotype list I mentioned before. In what way do you consider her dragon powers to be unique?
Kensou was a stereotypical Chinese kongfu boy with dragon powers from Psycho Soldier but his Chineseness wasnât his only defining quality when he was revamped in KOF. Before KOF12, he dressed normally and did a lot of goofy shit to stand out in his own way so he could woo Athena.
A moeblob is character with a generic design and no defining personality traits. If a moeblob from China is put inside the setting of a fighting game, it will pretty much end up like Mui Mui.
How do you know what Mui Muiâs personality is like? I mean we have no real idea how sheâs gonna be portrayed in the game yet really.
From what I can gather, her personality is like Xiangfeiâs, she likes to eat alot and fight strong opponents, but sheâs less of a goofball and much more serious of a fighter. But as with most fighting games, a characters fighting style and gameplay speaks much louder than their lore and personality. I mean look at Virtua Fighter, a game with minimal amounts of lores and the characters themselves lack in alot of personality, but their fighting and gameplay styles speak volumes about them and reveal alot of depth.
Also you havenât seen moeblob fightanâ until you played Arcana Heart. Which is also a pretty solid series in itâs own right. But really no SNK girl can compare to the ludicrous amounts of moeblobbiness in that game.
For KoF, Iâd consider her powers to be unique because she seems to fit well with the design philosophy of the series post 96. Instead of shooting flame projectiles or casting some normal flamethrower, she looks more like someone who has dragon breath augmenting her abilities. This keeps a lot of it short-range, and acts more as a flare to her melee abilities, similar to the way Ryo went from being the average shoto-a-like to something thatâs more defensive, and close / mid range oriented.
She looks as KoF as Kensou or XiangFei, which I think works out pretty well.
The shift to his original look from Psycho Soldier felt like growth out of a pidgeon-holed concept to me. âGoofy lovable guyâ isnât all that unique in and of itself. The more serious combat personality they gave him in the 2 most recent games worked well with showing a growth to the serious side heâs shown to have in previous games. Kensouâs been going through a bit of an identity crisis since he started to lose his power, and the way heâs shifted from more psychic reliant, more kung-fu, and then a mix of both, has been much more interesting than âhuh huh, he wears normal clothes!â He still had goofy flare, and his love for Meatbuns and Athena, but he showed he was more than just a âjoke characterâ, by showing he could embody multiple elements of himself, even with a less normal, more combat-ready look. He had a lot of personality in his motions in XII and XIII, and I donât think looking a bit like Ranma Saotome diminished any of that.
How does that even make sense? The very essence of âMoeâ characters is that they are suppose to be cute / needy / vulnerable / endearing / developing characters that evoke strong emotional responses. This normally comes through with them trying WAY too hard (especially from a western perspective) to make you FEEL for them. To me, Momoko fits this well, because selling her âcuteâ personality, and her âBudding young girlâ traits are ramped up to 14. She envies more mature, adult looking womenly figures, she attacks with her butt, and equates this butt-focus to the fact it looks like a peach, which is the very base element of her name âPeach Childâ. Her Capo-style was nice, sure, but they focused so hard on the exterior elements of her design that sheâs less a combatant, more a checkmark for an emerging trend.
MuiMui is pretty much the exact opposite here. Her design is crazy basic âChinese Female Fighterâ stuff. You could find a character like her in a Shaw bros. martial arts film. Sheâs not really TRYING to be pretty or cute, this just comes with her being a small girl. Sheâs sure as hell not begging for protection, vulnerable, or even making light of herself in anything weâve seen for her up to this point. She seems to have âLead fighting characterâ traits, which makes sense, being the face of a series herself.
And honestly, thatâs ridiculously refreshing for a small female character out of Japan in 2016. Iâm looking more at a slightly-younger Chun-Li, A Ganbare Goemon character, or a charcter from Ranma 1/2, rather than a character from K-On or Madoka, thatâs being squeezed into my fighting game. Her approachable, easy to understand, basic Chinese style feels like something thatâd be designed for a traditional fighter, rather than over-designed and full of quirks like something made now (which Sylvie does very well.)
Do we know much more about her personality yet, or about what lies beneath the surface? Nope, but that doesnât make the surface level stuff boring. You can look at her Pachislot stuff if you want to see who she was, but this character doesnât seem to be a 100% transplant, just as all the Psycho soldiers and Ikariâs have grown within KoF after being introduced into the series.
[you can call her a moe blob all you like. But if you ask me, youâre way off. I moe blob would be a character with no substance besides âKawaii desu neâ. If thatâs the case, redirect your hate towards Bao, Momoko, the little girl from Last Blade, all of Arcana Hearts, Ingrid, Marie(DoA), Xiaoyu, May(Guilty Gear), Bridget(Guilt Gear), Lucky Cloe, etc
Game looks better with each new trailer, cant lie i think i have a thing for MUI MUI now,
now after the release we can all agree snk should probably release dlc pack for yamazaki, rock, ash(or anti ash)team, orochi team, nameless, krauser, whip, mary and dlc costumes.
