KOF XIV General Discussion - King of Fighters XIV Arcade Ver. Burn 2 Fight cabinets from Taito!

CVS1 has gorgeous backgrounds and the stage intros gave a very slick theatrical feel to every match. CVS2 had ugly 3D backgrounds and the hello squares felt ok but kind of boring. The only thing CVS2 has going for it presentation-wise is the announcer. Also the OST is good.

Gotta say I do like CvS1’s presentation on the whole more than CvS2, but I concede that the character select screen was butt ugly. I like CvS1’s OST a heck of a lot more though.

CvS1 stages are way better, too.

Though music in CvS2 lingers in our hearts. “This is true love we’re making”.
For me CvS2 was more special. I bought it as a kid when I had a Dreamcast. Since then I became an SNK fan. Couldn’t play much CvS1, it looked quite inferior.

I’m not quite sure it’s a good time for CvS3. Just think about that time, people knew SNK games and characters, it was a high time for both companies to clash their heroes. But what about now? Due to SNK hiding (good for them to come out) in pachinkos and kind of frozen in development of other titles on home consoles, who would then be in CvS3? Only known characters from KoF XIII and KoF XIV? Only old gamers will recognize Haohmaru or, like, Hanzo from World Heroes. If SNK produce new games of Samurai Spirits and Garou IPs, then it would be fine for them to make it. Just remember that CvS was not only about SF and KOF.

Actually, wasn’t CvS for the most part just SF vs KOF with the addition of a few other characters? Capcom side had 1 Darkstalkers character and 1 Rival School character, while SNK side had 1 Samurai Shodown character, 1 Last Blade character, 1 Art of Fighting character (Todoh was never in KOF) and 1 Fatal Fury character (Raiden made his KOF debut years after in XIII). But for the most part, it was just mostly SF and KOF characters.

Not exactly.

SNK has some of the most famous well known characters in their library. Just look at the amount of views each teaser trailer gets and how people seem to know about characters such as Vanessa, Mary and yamazaki. SNK still has a very relevant presence to most gamers and in fact the initial backlash to the first KOFXIV teaser was because people thought this would destroy any chance for the series and company to make a comeback. People who play fighting games know quite a bite about SNK and its characters so the market CVS3 would primarily cater to would have no problem knowing SNK characters.

CvS2 had two SamSho characters with Haohmaru and Nakoruru, two Fatal Fury characters with Raiden and Rock, one AoF character with Todoh, and one Last Blade character with Hibiki

What I mean also that Capcom has quite updated cast to put. They can throw new ones like Juri from SFIV, or even Apollo Justice from Ace Attorney (Phoenix can fight in MvC3, right?). Where SNK doesn’t have much on that part. So it’s still better be after not only KoF XIV, but other titles.

I know that people still remember those characters like Yamazaki and others, but I doubt that they would make a game, it would have a nostalgic impact, which is not bad, don’t get me wrong. I am afraid that it is producer’s point of view to get new blood.

But still I wouldn’t hold my breath on it. I just want SNK to get old characters to modern fighting games. I was so pleased to see Geese. And his backstage almost made me cry from nostalgic memories. It felt like characters like him got really resurrected.

I figured I had miscounted, but still. That’s a small number compared to how everyone else is from KOF (or SF).

First off, welcome to the boards!

[] Now about CvS3… I don’t realty think it’d be a problem that SNKP hasn’t put out console games in a while. Not every celebration has to JUST be for modern properties.
[
] SNKP is rising again; A CVS could perform similar to KoF, in that it brings new relevancy to things people remember, but may not have seen in forever.
[] SNKP really hasn’t been entirely dormant; they just had business in other places. It’d be pretty interesting to see a CVS that celebrates the entire catalog of BOTH companies, and pokes fun at their evolutions. Pachinko, Cellphone, Mobage, browser games, portables, other-media stuff; all can be included in a clash of the brands.
[
] Heck, I’d love to have a game with both companies VS each other… with the gameplay and design philosophies of each company filling in fresh characters.

It’d be interesting to see both companies make a continually growing product together, rather than a limited license single-round thing…

I think CVS3 is inevitable. People have wanted a 3rd entry ever since CVS2 was still relevant and given the relationship between SNK and capcom, I think it’s only a matter of time before something happens. The only thing that could be a issue is that capcom might avoid any fighting games for awhile given the mixed reception to SFV both critically and commercially.

Or Capcom is simply fucking broke

Literally the only two games in development they have are Street Fighter V and that Deep Down CGI game, that seems to have been downgraded to VR status. Well and maybe a new Monster Hunter

If Capcom is legit broke that’s an insane turn of events given the history of the two companies. If SNK can really polish the visuals of this game to the point where everyone agrees that it looks better than SFV, Capcom might legitimately be in trouble and SNK might actually be able to take that number one spot in video games like they’re shooting for.

Graphically I think KOFXIV will be a fine looking game. Like I said before, it’s better then SF4 visually and so far does a pretty good job comparing nicely to DOA5.

That’s quite a leap from the literal PS2 level graphics we saw with the initial teaser. Like oda said, I too think people will be happy with the way the game turns out visually. It might not be as pretty as tekken 7 or SFV, but a high end PS3 title with smooth crisp gameplay with this large a roster will more then make up for whatever shortcomings the game has graphically. As for taking the spot away from capcom it’s too early to say. Capcom made a big mistake releasing a unfinished game and casuals got majorly turned off. I mean when you have people like angry joe and other popular reviewers blasting your product it’s never a good thing. What surprises me though is how much attention and views the KOF vids get per upload from the official PlayStation YouTube channel. I guess I shouldn’t be that surprised thought given SNK is a respected publisher and people really do have a fondness for KOF it seems.

At any rate If KOFXIV turns out to be graphically equal to a game like DOA5, with amazing gameplay and solid single player content and more importantly a good online mode, capcom might have a big problem on their hands. KOF’s appeal is about as big as SF internationally (in some cases surpassing it) so if capcom loses the NA market it would be quite a change to the status quo.

Especially considering SF and MH are the two main franchises Capcom is earning money from. Heck, they even decided to re-release Resident Evil 4 to 6 on PS4 and XB1, nearly 2.5 years since the generation started!

They fan barely scramble enough resources for devil may cry 5 (there were NO rumours about it for several years now), MegaMan series is buried, Castlevania turned into a God of War clone, Monster Hunter is only available on Nintendo portable platforms, and their main flagship series, which is Street Fighter, just had a rough and pretty much ruined launch, despite being a competitive success

I honestly don’t know how long can Capcom hold on, while SNK seems to be rising back to its glory starting with KOF14, especially considering their announcekents of media for KOF and bringing back their old franchises like samurai shodown

I think KOF XIV is improving its visuals and is looking nice, but c’mon… it simply can’t be compared to DOA5.

You’re forgetting that KoF is a collaboration of SNK’s multiple titles. So saying it’s focused on KoF is more or less all (or most) of SNK’s titles.

Speaking of SNK’s titles, we need this guy for DLC.

ROUND.

TWENTY.

FIGHT.

If we are too receive Dlc characters what are we most likely to receive? A couple of Full teams, several solo characters, ex characters, or a combination of the choices. I’d like to see full teams, but wouldn’t be angry at solo fighters. Though I would be super disappointed to just get ex characters
