At least people actually went back to a KoF game. In the US people would dickride 13 and then just not play it, then talk about how honest 13 is, and then not play it, and then talk about how pretty the sprites are, and then not play it.
JohnGrimm: Virtua_Leon: JohnGrimm:I’m happy about the large roster size. If there’s that many characters you’re practically guaranteed to find a team you enjoy playing.
The way i see this game cannot be worse than kof12 or 2003 or 2001, so if it’s better than those it’s a start.
I’m probably the only person on Earth to think that 12 wasn’t the worst thing made by humans. It was a bad KoF game, but on it’s own merits the worst problem with the game is that it was unfinished and had no content. Other than that the mechanics were fine and kinda fun to mess around with. But I get why it’s so hated and I definitely don’t want another game like it unless it’s called Art of Fighting 4, but yeah I agree with you.
There’s no way in hell 14 will be anywhere near as bad as the actual bad KoF games and it’ll probably be better than most of the average KoF games, and that’s good enough to me. There are like 15 KoF games and the only 3 anyone ever wants to talk about are 98, 02, and 13. And that all makes sense because those are pretty much by far the strongest entries in the series, but if 14 is better than games like 95, 97, or 2000, it pretty much guarantees a spot in the top 5 games. It’s a shame that that’s not good enough anymore and people want a game that far surpasses 98 while being the prettiest game on the block for them to even consider it, but frankly those people can fuck off.
I just wish people would stop dropping a game just because it isn’t 2k2.
I mean, that’s how XIII died here. We used to hold monthlies for it, but attendance dropped because people just kept going back to 2k2.
Well, when a few KoF players start calling it “Baby’s first KOF” and “watered down 2k2” it wasn’t going to be a fun ride. In an area that would be hardcore into 2k2 it wouldn’t surprise me if they were pissed off about the normals not being as good and HD combos being way too easy compared to what one has to go through in 2k2. People do like to feel special.

I blame the netcode first, foremost and always. The shoddy netcode alone destroyed any and all chance of it seeing extended play among general masses.

That’s an excuse. No one played at their local scenes, no one tried to make a scene for the game, no one tried to keep the scene alive. You don’t need good netcode to play offline. Also 13 Steam Edition’s netcode is passable and people still don’t play it. They don’t play 98 or 02 either. Good netcode is out there. People have been making excuses to not play KoF for years.
Maybe SNK should stop making remakes of 98/02 and using 98/02 engine on the newer Kof(12/13).
Spice shit up no more 3v3 dream matches.
Where are the tags,grooves,assist,ratio system,guest appearances,custom combos,new shit.

I hope this is sarcasm.

These things have already been in older KOF games.

No it’s not a fucking excuse. Not in this century. Not when damn near every game you can want is playable online with passable netcode. Why should people go out and try their damndest to MAYBE get a scene with a couple of people, when they can jump online and play 98 or 2k2 on solid netcode with much stronger, plentiful and available competition?
And whoopdee do, Steam Edition’s netcode is passable (though I’ve heard otherwise multiple times), a little too late at that point. People aren’t going to rebuy a game just to play on slightly better netcode, when again, 98 and 2k2 become better options. And this for the people who want to continue to play KoF. In the end, people tire of the netcode and won’t bother to make a scene because it’s not worth the trouble. And it really ISN’T worth the trouble in this day and age. Local scenes are dying. It’s too much about the convenience of being home. If you can’t acclimate, your game doesn’t deserve to be played no matter how solid it is. It isn’t enough anymore. You can’t just be a good game. And as other games have proved, you can’t just have a good netcode. Eventually you’re going to need both, or be so damn flashy and mainstream that no one cares if it’s slacking (see MK). You know why? Because if it isn’t, people can just easily move on to the next game.

I have the steam version of UM02 and none the online matches I had with it were any good.
maybe the optimist in me thinks that SNK is saving resources for strengthening the fighting system as well as netcode ?

But they don’t. They don’t play 98 or 02. That argument might hold some water if there was an online scene for either game, which should be easy considering they are on the best possible netcode and are two of the most popular games in the series. But they don’t. It’s Korea, Mexico, Brazil, and miscellaneous Asian and South American countries playing these games.

02UM easily has the worst netcode of the 3 games. 98UM’s is good, XIII’s is okay, 02UM’s is just completely inconsistent.

It’s also usually easier to find arcades with machines for either in these places.

I’d believe that…if SNK had any resources worth saving.

I thought there was a soft ban on ppl with pony avatars?
That awkward moment when this is 90% similar to what happened with XI and XI is your favorite KOF game.
Just read that leak list. Mexico team:Ramon, Angel, and Tizoc. I see you SNK, you know who you’re real fans are. Giving us Mexicans a shoutout. Orale, cabrones.
But no Blue Mary? No Vanessa? Why must you hurt me.
Maybe they should just re-release 98, 2002 and XIII in one big compilation for next gen consoles. Maybe add a couple of new characters for XIII but other than that reuse the old assets. The sprites are glorious and deserve to be seen by more players.
This should free up a time enough to spend the next year or two working on the greatest netcode known to man. I wanted to enjoy XIII so much but just can’t. I would happily buy it again on next gen if the online play was solid.
The only other thing to add would be a Skullgirls tier tutorial.
Then market the fuck out of it. Most casual players have never heard of KOF let alone care about it. Hype it up as the original Streetfighter killer blah blah blah and make it as cheap as possible like Rare did with their recent compilation. They need to raise awareness of the brand.
I think thats their best chance at getting new players interested and getting the fighcade people back on payed versions of the game.
Fighting games are having a resurgence but they are still niche and KOF is arguably niche even in this scene. New blood is needed.
Dudes getting mad at the fact that there isn’t a scene for kof, bruh ain’t no one trying to get their head cut the fuck off by some spanish cats with tattoos on their faces…dudes running around with their nostrils tatted up with the words murder and decapitate, talking about “Yeah holmes I can already smell aroma of victory ese.” as you shit on yourself in fear.
I’m down with this ugly ass game… Make it f2p model and profit. I’ve never gotten into KoF so I have no messy notions going in. Make that shit fun idc how it looks.
I’ll have three new fighters at the beginning of next year, that’s a good start
