KOF XIV General Discussion - King of Fighters XIV Arcade Ver. Burn 2 Fight cabinets from Taito!

Funny thing is when I looked for KOF XI gameplay, I got a mugen video and I couldn’t tell the difference until I read the description.

Let’s not go that far. I’ll concede to the points made about KOFXI but it is not a mugen game.

Regardless of its flaws these points still remain:

-Gorgeous backgrounds
-Good Sprite work
-Great soundtrack

Never said it was. I said I mistook a mugen game for XI. And it’s not like mugen games don’t have what you listed.

damb and here i was thinking 13 was the shit

XIII is a good game, but it has problems. Laban and lots of the old men in the KoF community have a hate boner for it but there is still plenty of solid play to be seen in KoF before someone gets scumbagged on.

Yeah XIII has its issues. It took me a long time to even find a suitable anchor to use because I just didn’t like the feel of most of the strong anchors in the game and trying to play “Triple Point Character” team isn’t a wise choice. I settled on Vice but I still felt and feel incredibly awkward with her.

Hey, guys! I’m totally new here just made my account a couple of days ago just to talk KOF.
I’ve been lurking here since page 49 or something lol.
Well anyways, i found this particular video.

Seems like KOF has the “spotlight”.

wrong!! kof xi sprites look shitty thanks to the higher res backgrounds you praise so much, the sprites are blurry as hell.

As a completely casual person to KoF (Who owns MI because its fun and Ya’ll can hold that), XI was really neat to look at when you played a lot of MvC2. It also had a bunch of random cool shit. Duo Lon’s sort of Genei Jin mode was pretty bad ass, Oswald chopping people up, people doing tags etc. How good or bad is as a member of its franchise is a different issue altogether. If it hooked people into checking out older games and turned them into fans, then it did a good enough job.

Please also keep in mind that people have a bias towards the first games they really played. You will find people whose favorite street fighter is 4 solely because that’s the one they started with; some people just love certain wacky shit out of bad games in a series i.e. I love SC3 even though its a glitchy mess and would be the worst in the series if it wasn’t for dull ass SC4.

ReoGeo seems to be a youngin. Young cats in this scene tend to say some hilarious uninformed things. Bubba said something just as egregious but nobody really wants to address his shrimp-boating ass. So guys, more discussing good things and ensuring you get your nail bats ready if Gato doesn’t make it. #AtLeastHeIsinXI

i started playing kof13 because of dat 2012 GFs BALA BALA BALA

*Anchor slot in 13 wasn’t too bad to select, it’s the lynchpin spot of 2 that’s the real moneymaker from my experience. Speaking on Vice, in 13 is alright but she is a far cry from her older iterations because of her gimped moveset. She needed meter to get her game going to abuse ex sleeve opportunities otherwise she felt pretty bland for grappler. What made lynchpin spot so critical to me was that eventually you needed someone who could deal with most matchups comfortably, be able to get good damage from just an HD combo without meter, or build meter good post HD mode **and **be a good general “setup” guy for your anchor.

Mature to me was a great anchor or lynchpin character since a little bit of drive or meter goes a long way with her. Some guys used her as a battery, but I never enjoyed her as much without meter. Having the option of Cl.C ex hcb B/D punishes, corner fireball loops, an ex dp, ex fireball or the ability to blow through a fireball and instantly push the opponent to the corner based off of one meter is just too much to give up.

I totally love 13’s system but I get why the old guard doesn’t take to it. It’s no '98, '97, or '02 with emphasis on fundamentals. It’s an offense, combo heavy, hop orientated game with a somewhat homogenized roster. I personally liked the modern feel, but I wouldn’t have minded something with more play variety character wise. Billy, Chin, Dou Lon, King and Ash are pretty much the only characters that break up the “get in that anus” rushdown feel. *

As someone who played Gato in Garou, fuck Gato. If that dude ever comes back to a KoF game they better remove half of his XI moveset because Jesus Christ he was stupid.

KOF 2001 sounds like a fun poverty game worth playing just for some good laughs.

The salt against gato is real. He ain’t no 98 daimon so he can’t be that bad.

For me KOF2002 was the best fighting game

You are an idiot.

gato is a stupid character and you should feel bad if you think hes ‘a stoic badass’

I wish I had the WTF button for half of this post.

No block frames for you:

I hope either the new Southtown character or newcomer prisoner is a sukeban (female delinquent)

SNK has never added a character like this in KOF before, plus they can have another “edgy” female.

She could be like this

@Fatal1ty_93_RUS I’m going to start something soon for SFV in terms of general footsies, but I do want to broaden my “brand” by doing more tutorial videos. For sure when KOFXIV comes out, I’ll be making tutorials, doing podcasts, doing live streams, and hopefully I’ll do live coaching/teaching/tutorials one on one with others on stream and put it on youtube later for reference. I want to do much more than what I could with KOFXIII. I actually have a webcam, mic, good PC, and stuff now to actually do things!!! I envision playing online with someone and we’d talk through Discord and then slowly/pragmatically teach stuff in KOF and help coach in matches to make them try to focus on areas of improvement. Then I’d like to have them on the show again maybe after 2 or 3 weeks to show improvement and do a progress report. I really want to grow KOF here in the states.
