Wonder what team sheād be in if she does come back
Perhaps theyāll bring the girls team back. Could also be a good way to bring back 2 young girl characters (May Lee, Hanoko, LI Xiangfei, Moe Hibana, ect)
Xl had some pretty insane songs. (Still listen to Ashās and Adelheidās when I wanna do circuit workouts). Usually every KOF has 2-3 songs I enjoy. I bought my AW cab just for Xl. Artwork itās meh. Shinkiro is still my favorite artist SNK ever employed.
You can go somewhere with yourself if youāre trying to talk shit about my join date Mr. 2 Months. Iāve been nothing but respectful to you and your dumb ass opinions talking about shit you know nothing about trying to put a spin on a series you are garbage at. Iāve explained my hate for XI already, I donāt need to do it again, and if you want to keep talking shit I can get a lot meaner.
The only cute character Iād compare Momoko to is Bao. Kula, Li Xiangfei, and Whip might be closer to their ages, but they act nothing like them, and have more mature airs about them.
XI is the KoF I hated the most upon start, that I grew to like. I still donāt like 2003 for anything more than itās ending artworks, which were among the best.
Fluid controls? It felt more like a modern Capcom game, yeah. Which isnāt all great, but it was well realized. There was more of a buffer to your movements, which made it so one didnāt have to be as precise to get whatever moves they wanted. Many earlier PS2 ports also had very poor controls (I think it was 2001 or so which was bad at recognizing diagonal presses?), this one felt like it was made with modern controllers and players in mind.
The Spritework was somewhat haphazard. You could tell there were new artist working on it who didnāt exactly know how to copy the old style This lead to softer shades and odd color choices on sprites that were not as well realized as 98-era spritework. However, it did have very nice animation for the new sprites, and you could see Nonaās influence coming through on characters like Yuri, who look closer to their XIII selves (rounder faces, more cartoony motions.)
---- As far as background⦠They were good, but also felt very unusually casual. The graphic style was like something from Neowave (using 3D / 2D combo assets), and I think even the BGs of XII were better overall art pieces. However, this was a solid start, and I like some of them better than NGBC.
The Roster was great, and felt very fresh. Itās one of the gameās strong points, to be sure.
I enjoy the art in 2k2UM more, honestly. The very light colors and more-anime-than-usual look is very fetching, and many of the poses were good. The art would pair decently well with XIV, honestly.
The OST was memorable. I really liked Elisabeth teamās theme there. It experimented more than some other games, but I think it lost some of the KoF identity through this. XIIIās OST felt like it understood KoF more.
HAHAHAHAHAHA. ahem Not at all. I personally find XIās combos to be much more monotonous and long-winded than XIIIās. I do think itās a cool mechanic, but I feel like it belongs in another series, rather than shoehorned into a KoF.
When I first played 2003 and XI, I couldnāt help but feel as if I were playing games designed with MUGEN. The illustration of Impact, the sound effects, the overly-casual, plain nature of the backgrounds⦠they just werenāt very solid KoFs at first impression.
I think we should cool down this discussion for a bit.
@ReoGeoSRK Please do not try to force your opinion on others, respect other people opinions & that way we will have a meaningful & enjoyable discussion.
@JohnGrimm Please try to calm down, there is nothing we will obtain by getting angry with each other.
Dealing with the whole 2003 and XI games. Thatās how I felt about 2001 and 2003. Still canāt stand 2003 but 2001 grew on me.
It seemed like SNKP went through this quite a bit. 2003 was a new engineā¦Xl was a step above. SVC was the same thing and NGBC springboarded from that. Xll was to Xlll.
Anyway, 2003 is really the only I still donāt care for.
Yeah thatās my bad Iām sorry I got carried away. I just really KOFXI and have a hard time understanding people who dislike it. It isnāt technically my first KOF game but itās the first KOF game I played where I felt it finally felt "modern"and like SNK got it. I could finally do combos and supers reliably. It felt like I could finally play a KOF game and you gotta admit its presentation is sharp. However I can understand people not liking it and I respectfully disagree. To me KOFXI will always be the best KOF.
2000-2001 was a time I was pretty out of KoF, after loving 98 and 99 evo on dreamcast. I still find 2002ās original backgrounds to be pretty ugly, while I LOVED 99s.
Itās a good point at how often SNKP started and refreshed engines. It seems like something we never see now, but it was very common for them over the past decade and a half. XIV is nothing new in this regard. It feels kinda good to be back in this cycle again, as at least itās a lively one.

Hereās the thing @ReoGeoSRK , you keep making these inane comments saying that 98 should take out rolls and hops and make it play āmore like ST.ā Yet, you claim to like a game like KOFXI which is even further opposite on the spectrum from ST. Itās a much stupider game and normals arenāt as good as they are in KOF98 barring the few really brain dead ones like Jyazu j.E (CD). Hops are much more abusable and dumb compared to KOF98, yet you like KOFXI more than it.
You complain about being stomped in KOF98; but if you were to actually play KOFXI, youād realized youād be stomped even harder in that game and any fundamentals you had in ST would be rendered even more irrelevant by the system of KOFXI. People will hop at you more insistently and stupidly while you wonāt have any decent tools to dissuade them from doing so, then theyāll convert into a kill combo with relative ease. Enjoy playing against KGO and being hit by Kulaās almost instant overheads into 70%-100% tag combos into Gato, and/or Gato converting his BS into an Oswald tag that could lead into a meterless ACE combo which does much more damage than a Final Showdown does in 98, and he sets up Third Strike-like Dudley Rose oki along with instant overhead/low mix up that leads back into itself.
Unless, the reason why you love ST is not because of itās emphasis on fundamentals, but the cheesy brainless stuff like Boxer or Dhalsim mash throw loops and other cheesy shit. Now youāre really turning off your brain. If thatās what you want, I respect that then.
Also, I donāt know why you have a hard time understanding people who dislike it. Itās as if you ignore every post I make about it detailing how more bullshit it is as a game and that if you were to play against real players in it, youād hate it more than losing in KOF98. Each and every time, you donāt fail to ignore my posts.
With KOF98, there is BS; but if you play really solidly, the game stamps out the BS and each player has to play really solidly. With KOFXI, high level play is governed by how BS your team is and how much dirty broken shit you can run. Although XIII is kind of a wack game in itself, thereās a reason why KOF98 and to an extent KOF2002 players are more solid at KOFXIII than KOFXI players. KOFXI doesnāt emphasize fundamentals that well and their players suffer in other KOF games because of it. Sure the input system is lenient compared to other KOF games, but thatās when the positives of the game wears out. Itās like you care more about being able to do special moves with ease than actually having a good set of normals. Itās, again, very fucking weird that you say KOF98 is hard to do inputs in while you fucking play Super Turbo. SUPER TURBO. A game where doing reversals and specials are much more difficult than KOF98. Does your execution magically vanish when you touch KOF98? It doesnāt when I play between ST, 98, GG, MB, 3s, and whatever else I touch.
With that said, with the constant whining and complaining and ignoring of other peopleās posts, you have the gall to say you like KOFXI the most when in turn it contradicts your own values when you say you like ST and wish games like Fatal Fury Special or KOF98 should play like it. Itās like your posts are a Pandoraās box of ideas.
