Graphically the 3D models all look great so far. The only issue I have is that the characters still retain that plastic look to them. Whatās weird is that itās completely gone with some characters like Leona, kula,Chang and even kyo but most of the characters shown here still have that plastic look to them.
After looking at terry I think they should just rebuild kyo from scratch. Terry looks so good by comparison as do the rest of the characters. Kyo looks like a effeminate sissy boy who rather suck dick and take it up the ass as opposed to being in a fight. I messaged oda on FB and told him everyone looks great but that kyo looks too girly and if he can plz change him back for he way he was before. I still havenāt gotten a response back.
In a weird way, Iām kinda happy the game looked so bad in the first trailer. If the game looked ājust fineā when it was first shown, it wouldnāt have got much press. Hardcore KoF fans would be excited and everyone else would not care. But now there are more eyes on KoF than ever before(in the states). Not to mention that it makes me appreciate the current and future visuals for the game. Me personally, I canāt think of any 3d fighting games besides GG:Xrd and T7:FR that made me really impressed simply on the graphics. So I think itās something special when KoF which doesnāt even look fuck all amazing manages to impress me(albeit only because I know SnkP knows jack shit about 3d)
Iāve been keeping a eye out on the YouTube comments for each teaser trailer uploaded on the PlayStation channel and itās interesting to see the progress made between each teaser. At first the game was just straight out trashed (rightfully so) but every teaser has started to get more and more positive. The PSX teaser trailer that first showed angel was the first teaser to get overwhelmingly positive feedback. Now looking at the newest trailer, almost all the top comments are very positive and most people are saying gameplay matters over graphics. Even if people are shitting on the graphics they still say the game looks fun, and interestingly enough I canāt see any comments with anybody saying they wonāt buy the game because of the graphics. On a funny note, the top comment is a direct dig at SFV. I realize YouTube comments donāt mean much but if this is the general market outside hardcore KOF fans, the reception isnāt as bad as I thought.
Everyoneās pissed about SFV and wonāt be buying it for a while if at all. The only ones who play it are the extreme hardcore players. If SNK had a time to fully promote their game, it would be now.
Iām pretty sure Billy is in his late twentyās or early thirties so he looks right, and Terry looks fine to me too. Andy and King however do look kinda funny,King looked good in game though
so far the only thing i dislike is maxima, he looks kinda derpy
But having said that iāve always hated maxima, ive never really liked him since 99, i think the only game i enjoyed using him was 11 so yeah so far so good, kinda worried about the rather limited moves list for king but i think weāll have to wait and see all 50 characters to see how everybody feels before passing judgement
Theyāre still very much a WIP. Andy looks different in game VS the Trailers, Changās facial emotion has changed from when we first saw him, Leona has a whole new render than when she originally premiered, etc.
I donāt find Billy young looking at all. That Render for Terry in the second picture looks a bit overly villainous to me. Iām glad he looks obviously older in game. Iām actually surprised more people donāt have an issue with him. Thereās a bit off with him, but itās not too bad.
Even though they say they have the game ā70%ā complete, I doubt they have a lot of the art completed. The illustrator might have finished his part, but once characters are in game, they not only have to look like themselves, but also different from the others in the game. This semi-realistic style demands a bit more detail in a face than the general āSame face, different hair and eye styleā people generally get away with in straight anime art.
Iām cool with Maxima, and heās a main for me in XIII. Varying degrees of success in other games, haha. Those HUGE mutton chops, distinctly masculine face, and surprisingly well slicked back hair all fit him to me. I like how his teamās gloves are all more mechanical, and fit well with his overwhelming mechanization here. The lighting on the armor might be a bit too strong, making it look almost like Old-school VR or something thatās almost Toon-shaded, but weāll see if that improves as time goes on.
