I don’t get how ken is parallel to terry when it’s clear terry and ryu have s lot in common. Kyo and ryu are nothing alike.
Terry and Ryu have nothing in common. Hell, Ryu has nothing in common with the entire KOF roster other than being a fighter. At MOST, the closest person he is to is actually IORI more than both Kyo and Terry.
Terry journies from place to place with a bag over his shoulder and he’s always looking for strong opponents. The entire plot of the 2nd fatal fury movie was basically like what ryu had with Sakura.
Ryu and Terry have nothing in common. Both Ken and Terry are cocky blonde Americans who love being flashy and have fiery punches.
I was the same way. My exposure to SNK has been through the Fatal Fury animes. For years I thought he was the lead of Fatal Fury and KoF for the longest time.
I see Ken as being Terry with responsibly and having a real day job.

The poster may be referring to Ripper and Hopper. Geese’s two bodyguards that appear on the Real Bout cover.
OK Ripper and Hopper makes more sense. I’d love a Geese, Ripper and Hopper team. I actually own that Real Bout Poster. (The ex hated geese’s face on it).
Hope to see Yamazaki back as well. Just give me a great Kof with awesome game play and I’ll be happy. No need to worry about if the Chinese are in charge or if it was racist if they looked funny. It’s a fighter that’s all we care about. I’m Cuban, we are not represented in fighting games period.
Funny to think that Kof is still alive. Glad it is, I own them on AES and still enjoy playing them when I have some time off. 94 to 2016 we are getting a new game, lots of reasons to be happy. Wish Shinkiro would do the art for this bad boy as well. Miss his SNK work.
I honestly don’t even know, it’s been well over a decade. I wanna say I probably noticed he had some pretty specific dialogue with Geese, but I’m not sure. Something about Terry just, stood out. Even when I played KOF 94, I figured Terry was the main guy despite Kyo’s dad being a sub boss. I knew the orochi saga had a lot to do with Iori and Kyo, but I still thought of them as your side main characters. In a way, I thought of them as Alex, in that he was the protagonist of 3, but Ryu is the main character of the series.
I’m not a developer though.

Well nakoruru is the OG waifu so I suppose it makes sense. This recent inclusion of her is pretty much going to start some wild fan speculation of samurai showdown though. I mean it would make sense that that game follows up next.
Also I just can’t see any similarities between ferry and Ken. Terry and ryu are the same character for their respective franchises. Andy is the Ken of the series.

The only thing that Terry and Ryu have in common are living the same lifestyle. That’s where their similarities end. Terry is a slacker. He rarely trains, and has no formal style. He’s a street brawler that mixes up a bunch of moves from different martial arts. Power dunk is inspired by his love of basketball. He’s cocky, care free and loves being flashy. It’s like Grimm said, he’s bum Ken.
*Of course. Kyo is still the face of franchise. Though Iori and Kyo has essentially been tied at the hip since 98 in terms of promotional materials. *
Heh, it’s cool to see some of my old speak from the KoF XII / XIII days still getting mention here. Thanks DarkGeneral. I still lurk here whenever there’s KoF stuff about. Always good to see so many familiar names here.
On the Terry / Ryu / Ken / Ryo dynamic, when I was at Otakon for KoF XIII, almost everyone there acted as if their biggest exposure to SNK was remembering Terry from SNES games (FF Special, FF2), or knowing him from CVS. Not many people references Kyo or Iori, sure… but this is a western viewpoint.
Kyo and Iori are easily the face of KoF in Asian markets. The appear in online games by other companies, in Squeenix arcade games, etc. And it’s more and more obvious that the SNK§ view KoF as their premier brand, which they use to keep their older, less-serviced brands in the public eye.
I think CvS drew good parallels. Kyo isn’t the direct personality match to Ryu, but that’s a good reason for them to be a bit in conflict. Ryu eternally trains, Kyo’s gifted. One’s a very stoic, serious individual, and one’s kind of an outwardly entitled brat. As far as looks, they’re 2 characters with white on their outfits and brown hair. They also both have Stalker-like fans in Shingo and Sakura.
If Terry were to meet Ken now, I wonder if him having watched over Rock, and Ken having his son Mel, would give them a new way to bond? I always loved this intro:
