Kof xiii

So the problem with XII is that it’s boring because it’s balanced… Right. I’m pretty sure THAT is why it flopped.

No, you’re not. Balancing characters has little to do a system being boring and I know its subjective. But usually its attributed to stuff like lack of options, weakening of options, properties on movesets or systems.

If you want to like unbalanced/broken stuff than you’re welcome to it. But to try to tell us that a balanced game amounts to it being less exciting is just completely false. If anything having a balanced rooster makes it MORE exciting because you see more character variety, and hence more match-ups and tactics being used. Don’t know how you could have missed that point.

On the other hand I agree to a point that a solid engine is important and that balance should bring it home. But just a solid engine will only bring it so far for me; especially since I happen to have a bad habbit of picking characters that aren’t usually viable. I love MvC2’s system but I’m never going to really take it as seriously as I could. Why? Because I play Ruby, Akuma, Morrigan as my main team. I know no matter how much effort I put into that shitty team they will never amount to a good god tier player. Hence, limiting my likeness to the game. Kind of a “why bother” type thing.

hey u guys r getting the wrong impression here… i obviously love a balanced game… it’s much more fun fighting a 5-5 or 6-4 match-up than to have an 8-2 match-up… but if balance has to come at a cost of losing solid, deep & fun gameplay then that’s when i say screw balance… * up to a point* meaning i can deal with kof xi type of non-balanced gameplay but if it starts getting retarded like mvc2 then i’m definitely not ok with it…

You’re confused. This is what you said:
KOF XII sucks because it’s balanced. The older KOF’s are great because their balance is ass.

In other words all the flaws with XII ACCORDING TO YOU have nothing to with:
-bad marketing
-ass netcode
-incomplete characters
-lack of characters
-lack of stages
-lacks of songs
-altered unapproved gameplay mechanics
-incomplete game

So in other words the worse KOF XII is balanced the better the game which WRONG WRONG WRONG. If SNK re-released KOF XII with worse balance no one would buy it because that doesn’t really fix what people saw wrong with the game itself. It just so happens that KOF XII has a degree of balance among it’s flaws. KOF XII not being fun for you has NOTHING to do with it’s balance. It’s with the game itself. You like Clark so much that it blinds your logic. Clark being ass=you not having a good time. I’m pretty sure that if Clark got back all his moves and SNK restored the grab priority and Clark was ass you still would complain.

Also you do complain about seeing the same characters used again and again in KOF. You want to see more diversity yet you want the balanced to be worse. If the balance is worse wouldn’t that create the SAME PROBLEM you’re already complaining about?

i stopped playing xii for exactly all those reasons that u just said… i didn’t mind at all for the game being balanced… but to achieve this balance snk created a half faulty game engine… so if snk can then by all means make xiii with as much balance AND a solid engine to go along with it… but if they can’t then i don’t care… as long as i got a good system engine… and if clark got all his moves back then i wouldn’t have to complain because then he simply wouldn’t suck

You speak as if SNK truly aimed to make the game how it is in favor of balance. I wasn’t aware you knew people who worked at SNKP.

And heads up since you’re in the dark: characters can still suck even if they have all their moves.

i know that… it just be cool to actually play clark like clark… not just some grappler with 1 special that sucks anyway… w/e i don’t care… if snk doesn’t screw up then i’ll play xiii… most likely just rent it first… i am not getting my hopes up …97/XI is good enough

XII has a cool system and it has a good feel to it but like Dandy said, it lacks depth. Obviously this is mostly because some things not working like they typically would in other KoFs.

I know its impossible but is there anyway to get Rock Howard ? Why does SNK apparently hate the character? I have never seen such a great character get ignored so much.

Rock…he’s not my favorite, but I can understand where people are coming from wanting to see him in KOF. He was fun to fight in CvS2 (fuck level 3 Shine Knuckle), but in KOF (shit, in CvS2, too) he’s basically constantly overshadowed by Terry and especially his dad, who beasts in every KOF he’s ever been in. (No, seriously. I dunno about the FFs, but has there ever been a KOF where Geese hasn’t been like upper-mid at worst?) Rock kinda deserves his shot at KOF glory, I think.

But yeah, +0 hype on XIII for the time being. No strong opinions towards the game’s potential failure or success. XII had some good ideas (new CD attack system in particular), but suffered immensely from being austere as all hell. No flash + piss-poor momentum = no way in hell you’re going to compete with SF4 and Tekken.

XIII, if nothing else, has the advantage of (a) coming after XII’s erectile dysfunction, from which SNK hopefully took notes for XIII, and (b) already is guaranteed to have less time and resources committed to the new art assets, since they can now build on what they drew for XII. However limp-dicked XII may have been, that’s nothing to discount; KOF has always been very game-to-game (I personally think they get it right every 2-3 games or so, particularly in the “climax” games like 98/2k2/XI before they go on to try some crazy new hit-or-miss mechanic in the next iteration), and we may yet see a recovery with XIII.

That logo is serious. It gives a very dark mood to it.

I think everyone can agree that XII wasn’t finished and rushed out the door, hopefully XIII makes up for this. That said, XIII has alot working against it simply because its XII’s follow up and XII was so poorly received.

I thought there were a few intriguing bits in XII, I really liked the redesign/new moves for Chin, Ralf and thought Betty was interesting with her dashes and command grab. I hope a few more older characters get movelist redesigns and come into their own, namely the kind of redundant/clone characters (I don’t think Yuri would bring anything new to the table without a new movelist with Ryo and Robert in their current forms).
