Okay I have to post this somewhere because its really getting on my nerves with people saying how tight the controls in KOF are. They are tight about half the time and more loose than almost any fighting game I can remember the other half. The command list might as well be a suggestion list since theres multiples ways to do half the move in the game. NOT TO MENTION THE FACT THAT YOU CAN DO TWO SPECIAL MOVES IN ONE MOTION. I mean some stuff is unforgiving, but at the same time two moves in one motion mean you can literally do a specials without even intentionally entering them.
I don’t know about you but I’ve never done a special without meaning to. The huge buffer window in this game is a nice touch in my opinion but the strict input window in some things is so freaking annoying. At least to me.
Oh well! All I can do is try my best.
You can definitely do two special moves without entering separate motions for each.
I’m not even saying its a bad thing, its actually very helpful one you get know about it
From playing my characters so far
:f: :hcf: + C ~ C with athena gives you a Psycho sword and then a command grab.
With Saiki
:dp: + B ~ C gives you his combo drive cancel which is much more helpful than actually having to do both moves since the second QCF does his super.
Apologizes. I thought when you said special move you meant a super. Yeah that is definitely possible.
Input display. I noticed sometimes I missed :df: doing qcfs. Make sure you hit every direction
Just want to congratulate community contributer, Sparkster, for taking first place at Frosty Faustings for KOF XIII while clawing his way from losers bracket to take grand finals from the one that sent him into losers in the first place by making him mad at Andy’s Elbow gimmicks. I personally would have gotten mad at the audacity of the gimmicks and wouldn’t have clutched it out with HD combos to bring it back with EX Iori and Shen Woo. 3-2 to reset the brackets and 3-2 to take the win. Much love.
So yeah, ggs yo. But I’ll be takin’ ya down at Final Round. Get ready
It’s VERY expensive.
If you don’t press the button twice you won’t do the drive cancel. The engine is done to always give you a way to do what do you want without mistakes if you do the right manipulation. I never had any problems, if you’re not strict enough to do the “real thing” there is always a way to do it easily.
probably cause that means more time and work that SNKP clearly doesn’t have.
It’s suppose to be like that so people can do stuff like drive cancel a dp+P/K to qcf+P/K with out getting a qcf qcf DM. If you’re accidentally drive canceling, make sure you only hit the button once.
I need some help:
I’m having a hard time with Clark canceling DF + LP into HCB x 2 + HP , any tips?
If you’re trying to do something like EX DP and don’t hit the two buttons on exactly the same frame, you’ll get a normal DP into drive cancel EX DP. Really annoying how with a 4F input buffer on normals, they couldn’t even give a 1F input buffer to specials to avoid these kinds of situations.
Just do standing D into it, way easier and does about the same amount of damage as doing standing C into DF A.
Maybe this is why I get a random :snkc: sometimes when I activate HD? Use to think it was the marco, but it also happens when I press the two buttons.
Plinking is in this game?
Not that I’m an expert on HD mode but at least according to the Dandy J video its intentionally programmed to do that; you’re not hitting an extra button.

Ah, I see.
Good for combos, but sucks for trials. I may just forget the trials all together and work on late HD activation combos.
Also, why the heck is Leona’s trial 4 so inconsistent for me?
:db: charge, then :snkd:, :ub::snkc: xx :f::snkd:
I think I only managed to get the Moon Slasher cancel two out of twenty times. I’m doing the input early, trying to cancel on the first hit of close :snkd:, and retaining my back charge.
Unrelated note:
Anyone know if there’s a list of what the characters say in-game? I’m not talking about the dialogue or win/lose text quotes, but what the actual vocal samples say during the moves and intro/outro. Most of them are pretty easy to figure out but I’d like a definitive list if possible.
Well I’ve been ripping character voices, got about 11 characters done. I haven’t done any in a while because I wasn’t sure if anyone would be interested.
Aah thanks. Your post just reminded me that this game was leaked on PC and someone out there probably ripped it all already (Google search confirms).
Yeah big props to Sparkster for winning, and it was great meeting and playing with him. I had to leave before the grand finals started (they were taking forever to get the other games on the stream), but I will check out the archives. The tournament was a lot of fun, and look forward to many more planned this year
Thanks for the tip, yeah you’re right it is much easier to do, my normal HD opening is: C, DF+A, HD mode + D ,etc, etc, etc. it seems that D has a huge window for for easy cancels and i use it for my normal HD combo that i’ve already mastered (like the 9th trial)…
But i would like to master that input, Clark is a beast.
