Isn’t there something in place where you hold the button down for a special move and it will execute for 5 frames?

I do not understand why people wants CvS3 when Ono is still there in Capcom, honestly I prefer KOF IV and VF.

Yeah, something like that. In KOF 2002, there were a bunch of weird quirks to how this system worked (details here). Our data on how it works in XIII is not so accurate yet.
So I’m looking at Mr. Karate footage, and I’m a bit concerned about plain ol Takuma. The other DLC characters are different variations of their in-game versions, but Mr. Karate seems identical to Takuma, just a whole lot better. I can’t see any advantage in playing normal Takuma over the serious one.
Takuma with a DP is kinda scary. Even more scary that he can Garou break it. It’s also looking like he has air version of the Hien kick (which IMO is pretty cool/dangerous)

Takuma has a command grab and fireballs. Doesn’t look like that invisible fireball thing Mr. Karate acts like a projectile and I don’t think I see a command grab.
Mr. Karate has Takuma’s Knee bash command grab along with the counter.
So Mr. Karate has that weird '02 fireball. I never knew how that move worked.
Counter, Garou cancel DP, and a non-chargeable Lunge kick? damn.

it’s a invisible fireball. I don’t remember if 02 was full screen or not (I believe 02UM it was and guard breaked.) I think Mr. Karate needs EX it for it to be full screen cause it was looking like he threw it out in the video on the front page and it wasn’t hitting unless he was in close range. (also looks like he gets the dash followup like Takuma’s hcf+k fireball)
I think the funny bit about all the EX characters is that all their regular verision characters are already pretty solid as is.

I know this has probably been asked already, but I havent played KoF in awhile and my favs were Kyo and Yuri (i guess Mai and Terry too). I’ve played the demo and liked it then I saw the Yuri 100% combo video on the front page. Why does it look like her head is in the shape of a watermelon? I’ve been into anime and stuff for awhile so Im guessing its to make her look more cute/adorable but damn did they take it over board. I actually like the way she looks in her character portrait but the big ass head is just soo weird to look at during a fight.
Yeah her and Athena’s sprites really stand out from the rest to me.
New to KOF. I remember playing Kyo, Terry and Iori in CVS2 when I was ten years old or so.
I just picked up this game. So sexy. Gotta practice.
Looking at the differences between Takuma and Mr. Karate, I’m probably going to stick with Takuma. Because Mr. Karate has the 02 fireball (which is NOT full screen and it never has been ever) he’s got even LESS range than regular Takuma has, which is really saying something. At least Takuma has a pretty decent fireball for spacial control, but other than that his normals are stubby and pretty slow. Far C has ass range (but at least you can whiff cancel it) and f.B is slow as balls. Maybe Mr. Karate’s EX fireball will have more range, although with how slow it is I doubt it’ll matter.
Another problem I have is that the classic command grab might be good for roll option selects, but the new command grab Takuma has is just so much better. I don’t know if you can drive cancel it, but even still what are you going to drive cancel into? Air Hien into maybe DP or DM? That’s a drive and possibly a meter for most likely not a lot of damage. Maybe he’ll have extended juggles off of air Hien, but with how many hits the classic command grab is the scaling is going to suck. Meanwhile, Takuma’s command grab gives you a full combo every time and allows you to throw someone into the corner with pretty much no scaling, plus EX is invincible giving Takuma a pretty solid reversal with meter (even if it is situational). The only good I could possibly see coming from the classic command grab is a 98 style unblockables of some sort, but as previously stated, he doesn’t have an actual fireball so that’s probably not going to happen.
Let’s also not forget that Mr. Karate does NOT have an anywhere juggle like Takuma has (unless they for some reason made one of his other specials anywhere juggle instead of fbf+P). With that he won’t be able to capitalize off of air to airs or anti airs like Takuma can, which is one of the reasons he’s so scary. Lose an air to air, eat 50% for minimal meter. Mr. Karate does seem to have a MUCH stronger anti air game with the new DP, st.D being way faster, LP fireball being really fast making it a somewhat effective hop AA, and of course his DM’s, but it seems that in pretty much every case you’re either sacrificing damage for an effective anti air or you’re blowing a lot of meter.
The new parry is interesting, still kind of disappointed it’s not the autoguard punch though, the jump cancelable normals only seem to be for Hien juggles, overall he just seems less versatile than Takuma. I doubt he’ll be doing more damage than Takuma since Takuma’s damage can be down right silly at times, so really the big benefits I’m seeing from Mr. Karate are stronger anti airs, the stronger DM’s, and a bunch of gimmicks. I’m still curious to see how he turns out and to see what he’s capable of, but I’m liking Takuma a lot more right now.
I hated Yuri’s design at first but now Im really digging it. Too bad I cant say the same about Athena.

Umm wth is going on? lol I played the demo’s tutorial with Kyo and he looked fine. Now I see watermellon Yuri, Athena looks almost ok but it’s like she’s been sparring with Chun-li, and Mai has a longgggg face.
I’m less looking forward to Capcom’s take on such a game as I would be looking forward to SNK’s take on it.
They could just take SNK vs Capcom: Match of the Millenium and remake it for consoles with KOFXIII style graphics and I’d be happy as a pig in filth.

Also, I was playing online last night and amazed at how many 3 bar connections I got (Played 1 2bar match and wanted to die). Wish I could have remember the name of that guy who drilled me 0-8. Those were some really good matches.
