Got the game today.
It’s really a lot to take in. Difficult getting used to the input timings, but they seem much more natural than those of SF. It’s really great landing a big combo and the game plays very fast and looks amazing.

So I’m probably going to pick this game up today, only problem is I don’t have enough funds alone to buy it, and will probably have to trade a game (Gears 3) to have enough. I’m really looking forward to playing this, but in all of your opinions, do you think it’s worth waiting for a price drop or worth getting right away? Asking you guy’s since you’ve been playing it for awhile and have a good idea if it’s worth picking up right away or not.
It’s worth it. If I had a 360 and Gears 3, I’d trade it in for KOF XIII. It’s a great game that feels great. The only thing that’ll set you back is the online function. If you have some guys in-state or local to play online, then it should function passably. If you got offline comp for this game, then just go ahead and get this game already. If you don’t have offline comp, you could try establishing one; that’d be cool.
Yeah there’s several people in my local scene that play the KoF series. How bad is the online? I thought they did well on the netcode, does the online have freezing issues or choppiness during game-play, or is it just input delay?
It’s mainly that you either get very playable games that are slightly slow (mainly 3 bars and a few 2 bars, depends on distance) then you get like old school, non P2P kaillera, Delay 8 kind of netcode (1-2 Bars). So the game is really playable online if you have a set of friends that you could just play online often and you know that their connections to you is really solid. Otherwise, matchmaking and finding stable connections is nigh impossible and you spend more time trying to find a good match online than actually playing the game.
So it’s a mixed bag really, you can use it but you have to have close friends to use online as a meaningful resource.
Also, there are a few tendencies of desyncing and disconnecting from other players mid-game on a bad connection. Then those that have weaker connections, the game actually as a function where it pauses the game for a bit and tries “Synchronizing” your game. Sometimes it’s short, other times it takes minutes depending on how terrible the connection is.
If you will, I live in Modesto, California. I have two buds living in the San Francisco area, about an hour and a half to 2 hour drive away. I connected fine with them with no issues, one being a 3 bar connection and the other being 2 bar, the actually games were the same kind of quality between the two despite the bar difference.
I have a buddy in ATL and one in STL, played terribly. Unplayable Delay 8 like stuff. Played in town with a friend in Modesto, 2 bars both ways and it was unplayable like with my out of state friends. I figured it out now, it’s just how the networking works in the Modesto/Salida area that makes the connection dumb, but there is still a chance for having a bad connection within the same city.
So yeah, it’s just weird like that.
Alright thanks much man Hopefully I can make up my mind before the end of the hour. My local store also has some extra copies with the soundtracks laying around as well.
“Like a hipster’s favorite band, KOFXIII’s greatest asset is just how uncool it is.” LOL damn i guess we’re the hipsters of the FGC then? hahahahha
Archive of Poongko playing KoF13
Game is depressing the shit out of me~ lol. It’s going to be nice to see you guys really get into it dude, but if I thought I had problems in Super or Blazblue I’m some serious trouble. There’s no way I’m going to be able to get some of the stuff in this game is I was having issues in the easier fighters. There’s no room to fuck up in this game at all. This is the game for all those combo movie makers out there, I swear~ lol. It feels like I could sit here and learn the fundamentals all day, but I’m going to get destroyed by the combo king every single time.
You finding the online okay in Eugene? lol
Could someone explain to me what makes a character good and what makes a character bad in regards to KoFXIII (and I guess KoF in general)?
Ok so i’ve been playing the mission mode, i just had to walk away haha…Im completely new to KOF,i mean i think i played it a couple times at the arcade & PSx but never against anyone…If i cant complete the mission mode trials for my mains, would i still be able to do ok in local tournies? How important is it to be able to do these 9 & 10 trials…Most pro’s able to do this easily?
I haven’t got a chance to play anyone online as im just hitting up training mode. Trying to memorize all the specials, supers , & combos for each of my characters…I think i got Daimon down, still learning Athena, Raiden, & Clark…
So far im really really liking this game, i couldn’t get into any of the new fighters like MvC3, MK9, Blazeblu, & SSF4…Im hoping there will be a decent scene for this…
Most higher trials show off a lot of fluff that gives you an idea of what your character can do. Most use like 5 meter so you don’t have to worry about completing them, and instead you can find an easier HD combo to learn. The trial combos don’t even list how much damage they do, so most are unoptimized.
i feel like a lot of the mission mode stuff certainly isnt important for month one play. you can do combos that take 1-2 bars and a stock or two and do like 80% of the damage of harder and more expensive combos. i think some people are overestimating the game’s execution barrier because they dont realize this
Been practicing mission modes for Joe, King and Yuri. It’s funny how it’s a few easy combos, then it shoves hard ones right in your face and you’re like WTF. How am I ever going to do this? I usually break it down into small pieces and practice each segment and finally try to piece it all together. Or I mess around like it’s training mode to distract myself from the fact that I can’t execute these combos yet. Overall, I’m having a lot of fun learning and practicing. There’s no way in hell I’ll attempt to play against anyone for a while, though.
A general question about KoF: Who is the mastermind behind the series? Is there a name associated with KoF, kind of like Ono is with Street Fighter and Ishiwatari with Guilty Gear?
waiting on my game to get to me, I estimate it will be a week or so. Which of the past series would be best to practice in?
been playing some garou and sampling the older kof and i realised, man I’ve gotten spoilt with SF4. The moves just have to be precise, or you’re wasting your time.
Yeah i was doing the mission modes for King and it threw in like some crazy combos… I was like wtf. So i went into practice mode and created my own HD combos.
2k2/2k2UM are the closest you’ll get out of the old games that’s similar to XIII. Wouldn’t hurt to play 98/98UM either.
Wouldn’t hurt to try all the past KOF games out actually. If just to try them out and get a feel of the overall series.
**hahaaaaaa! ** The ranked competition is fierce online! Eat neomax, fool! xD
Best super finisher background effect since arcade SSF2Turbo.
Pretty much, but it works both positively and negatively. SNK doesn’t get the all the shit that Capcom does when they do similar shitty things.KOF is actually quite popular in certain latin countries or at least it used to be.
