picking this up tomorrow, it’s my first KOF since MI1 lol. I wonder who my mains are going to be.
I’m undecided whether I should play this game or not. Is this game footsie and zoning-dependent where normals do decent damage (like in street fighter games), or do you have to rely on difficult combos like in marvel and blazblue etc? I know my question is kind of vague, but hopefully it’s clear what I mean. I’ve never been able to get into games of the latter type.
Man, my body is so ready for some Saiki action.
Also, big ups to #STA for the coverage this weekend. But needs more Yuri. lol.
Nice, mission mode lets you add moves without penalty!

Large emphasis on footsies and zoning. It’s just you could get a bit of extended beef with the longer combos but they are by no means required to win nor are required for each and every bnb you land.
Sadly, though, this rings true more for older KOF’s than KOFXIII. KOFXIII is a bit of a ‘combo game’ compared to older KOF’s. But, even though combos are longer, you can definitely still easily win with much simpler combos than the most optimal ones. Just in comparison, they take a bit more time to execute than they used to, but they’re pretty easy.
Having played XIII in arcades for a very long time, I can say that neutral game is very important in it. I can’t speak for older KoFs, but people who have a pretty good knowledge of spacing and zoning tactics will win as well. The issue? The timer. It’s 60 seconds. This is relatively short in comparison to other games and there are some characters like Andy, Kensou, Athena, and Benimaru who can just sit around and keep you away. Athena in particular. She can build up meter from launching fireballs, get meter and do two things: Run up and start applying pressure till you crack and she does EX psychoball combos for some damage, or if you’re advancing on her, she can EX teleport to the other side of the screen.
Laming out a match is what we call it, but it’s a viable strategy to tick throw, fireball people and DP their response, and poke with long range normals. A lot of characters are designed to switch to that kind of neutral game tactic. You can check out Chris-Tan, Jack Burton, or even watch Alex Valle play XIII. You’ll see plenty of XIII footsies.
i just wanted to point this out. you can do button config in the character select screen in versus mode. however, only the first player (player controlling main menu) can access it. you just press circle and a sub menu will pop up in character select.
Laban was that you who gave me a shoutout in the Takuma section?
I couldn’t resist mentioning in on his page.
Oh you.
Hyper Guide is on the top front page of SRK now.
Big thanks to for the Hyper Guide guys! The Advanced section is more than beyond awesome!
 I want everyone to know that I am crying tears of joy.
I am so happy for SNK and for this game.
Here’s to EVO and the next Dream Match!
I’m having controller issues too. My HRAP2(Red/Grey) with my Elecom converter refuses to work with the game.
Can that be fixed?
That Hyper Guide is siiiiiick. Bookmark’d for future reference.
ARGH WHY CAN’T WORK END NOW!??!! I want to go grab it ASAP.
Well, this will be the SIXTH converter Ive had to buy. Beautiful.
Anyway, anyone one PS3 wish to throw down? I’m almost shocked at how hard this is to play compared to SF.
the inpin converters are the only ones that are really worth it. i’m surprised you went through that many converters and never got an inpin.
Got my copy. My God the controls are amazing. And the game is gorgeous! Now I want a huge flat screen.
