really nice. this is something that should be pre-ordered early.
color edit mode confirmed
getting this game
maining shen ryo and leona not in that order
Rogueyoshi takes 1st place at Otakon KOF XIII Tournament. It was nice meeting you man.
lol, I remember watching a Xanadu stream, and in the CvS2 they had, one of Sagats colors was greyscale and his name was Wesker.
It was pretty amusing.
Couple of quick questions:
Which system, 360 or PS3, should I purchase this game for? …having the best/largest online community…
Having never played a KoF game, do I need a fight stick, or will a controller suffice?
Will this game have an overall large community in America?
-
Purchase the one for the system you already have. If you have both and you simply care about online…USUALLY X-Box Live has a bigger online community. But KOF 13 is probably going to sell much more on PS3, so…it’s your call really. Do already prefer X-Box Live or PSN?
-
Use whatever controller you feel most comfortable with. SF numbnuts all advocate fight stick, but you don’t need 6 face buttons for KOF.
-
We’ll see. The American community for KOF has never been big but this game has the best shot at success in the US more than any SNK game since 1995.
You don’t need a fightstick but I do recommend one. It can be expensive to get a good one though so don’t even bother unless your’e serious. Also, don’t buy it just for KoF. There are lots of other fighting games that can benefit from a fightstick and you don’t want to limit yourself. Of course you’ll suck at first but eventually you’ll be able to pull off stuff that might give you problems on the pad and you’ll never look back. It will be especially beneficial to you starting fresh on your first KoF with no prior muscle memory to mess you up.
I agree but lots of fighters outside of SF use more than 4 face buttons. Even some of the more recent KoFs do. Not to mention the joystick is also a very important part an arcade stick too, not just the button layout…
I really hope we see KoF at Evo12. The American scene has been suffering for so long it would be nice to see it get some much need exposure.
There are a good amount of KOF players who prefer pad. Personally, KOF was the game that encouraged me to get a stick in the first place because I found it way too hard to do motions such as hcb,f consistently on pad.
Yep you can see the result at Evo. Quite a few outstanding players on pad (Fanatiq & Vangief come to mind). Don’t judge until you try it though. Just because it starts off uncomfortable doesn’t mean it will stay that way and just because you get good with it doesn’t you’ll prefer it over pad. Just give it a fair chance and judge for yourself.
Honestly get the console that most likely has the more player. As for the Controller I’d personally go for the fight stick since there is time when you have to press C+B which can be uncomfortable on pad, and its easier to do EX DM’s. Also its universal unlike a specific pad like ps3 or 360. As for the scene of the game. I can’t say, the scene for KOF hasn’t been strong for a while but there are dedicated players and if this game gets streamed more often people can see that its a game worth playing.
Thanks for all of the responses. I do currently have a madcatz sf4 $70 fightstick for Xbox 360 that I bought after I recently purchased another game, being new to fighters and all. I guess i’ll wait and see about where the larger online community will dig in, as I do have both systems. It’s pretty bad that my choice is predicated solely on online community, but I live in a rather rural state. Because of this, the closest “scenes” are about two hours in all directions away from me. I’d eventually check them out, but it’s not really something I could do every week. That said, I really hope the netcode is decent.
Although I’m awkward on stick (Dualshock 3 forever!), here’s a video of me playing KOF and trying to just showcase some stuff (keyword try.) Hopefully you guys enjoy it.
Shoutouts to everyone that goes here that I met at EVO. Good stuff guys!
Edit: In addition, I’m Player 1 in videos 2, 4, and 6 on the Gamespot playlist for KOFXIII. Incidentally, I’m the player with the long hair right behind the Producer’s translator in the Interview video.
Additional shoutouts to Sparkster (Midwest KOF player) with the yellow scarf and my friends (one with a Giants cap) that also make cameos in that video.
I’m already very excited about KOFXIII.
The color edit mode and replay mode sound like fun.
Since I’m going to main Mai I’m very happy to hear she’s got a few buffs for the console release.
Let’s just hope the online expierence is good.
Good representing the community Laban and it was great to finally meet you and your friends. Keep up that old school Goro man, you got me worried for a second when you used him. =)
Haha thanks Kane. I’ll do my best. Personally, I was worried that you guys (Socal and Norcal) might have thought a bit low of me because I was just under-performing for most of the weekend (´Д`). I just tried to the best of my ability to make it happen and eventually I decided upon Goro the last day due to ease of execution and relying on 50-50s. Still didn’t make up for my lack of experience against your Duo Lon and new Mai stuff. I only barely sampled your Chin but I would have wanted to play against that more. It was good to see the “irl” scene in Cali and all over and get to know people such as you and Giby. It was quite the pleasure.
Any idea if we will get individual character forums when this game drops?
It wouldn’t be too hard to get that. Let’s just ask Rogueyoshi, Nocturnal, or some other moderators/admins to add character forums.
Are they going to have the clan system that KOFXII had?
If yes, then I gotta revive “The Counts” clan. lol, we were in the top 2 in the world xD. 100+ wins / 2 loss I think
Laban, your hair is crazy:
