KoF XIII General Discussion: Part II

Who do you use?

About to hop on some XBL. If anyone somewhat near the Southeast wants to play send me a message/inv/whatever. Trying to get as much good experience as I can now that finals are over.

Also how viable is ground CD in general? It’s been amazingly useful with Athena so far, and I use it with EX Kyo sometimes if I don’t think I have time to anti air some other way, but it seems kind of gimmicky.

Right now Kula/Mature/Ryo and occasionally I swap out Kula or Ryo for Shen. I plan on picking up EX Kyo but i’ve seen lately, especially after this past weekend, that ex Kyo is giving me a huge problem. Once his offense starts, it’s just hard to get him off and if he does get off, he’s right back in my face.

If I wasn’t at work or at school I’d play you, but whatever.

Ground CD’s are generally + on block, usually around +1 and 2. Since you can cancel them you can make them more plus. With Shen, his ground CD can be cancelled into punch feint, giving him about +5 or more at frame advantage. You can also use them to extend the length of moves, but it increases the startup on them. I don’t use them as much as I used to, but they are very viable in play.

Yeah, Ex Kyo has been giving me a lot trouble too. I have no credible strategy against him, but to counter pick him back with Ex Kyo/Kyo (!) and see who can rush down faster.

At that point it’s a matter of who has the best spaced j.2C

I just fucking… LOL.

He can get zoned hard, remember sweeps > autoguard from Bald Eagles and Rooster’s Eggs. Remember that C rekka is not safe whatsoever. EX Kyo has the best DP in the game imo thanks to autoguard and whatnot so bait it. He’s still so good though, not better than flames kyo though. Speaking of which, I think EX Kyo beats Billy Kane like 8-2 thanks to autoguard, damn man you gotta love counterpicks lol.

it seems like everyone uses the term rekka in every fighter to mean rapid fire hits attack or something(ie rolentos beating stick spins)but what does it really mean?

Exactly! I also find that anti airing with stand A against his j.2C is kind of a crapshoot, the hitbox j.2C is just too good. Also I don’t think Ex Kyo gets zoned out that easy, he can use rekkas and red kick to get around fireballs.

its the name of fei longs move.

I’m having major problems against Clark lately. Any advice on how to approach this match up? I use Andy/Beth/Benni but I’m really having a real hard time when Im using beth tho.

anytime i’ve tried to 5A Kyo be it j.2C or j.CD it trades in his favor. So I figure i’m not doing it early enough or simply stop trying to challenge it.

I couldn’t give you any specifics but patience really helps me vs any grappler. Also try your best to not become predictable. Once a grappler figures you out, it’s hard to get out of the vortex.

Throw out one random move every once and a while just to show them sometimes that you have that card in your deck and sometimes you aren’t afraid to use it.

looking for some counterpicks for clark, kim, and claw iori!

who has experience with these characters?

I play Claw Iori and Kim. I have one of the best Kim’s in the south, if not 2nd next to IoriYK. I also say that I AM THE BEST CLAW IORI IN THE SOUTH UNTIL PROVEN OTHERWISE. This is how I see the 3 characters you named in matchups.

Clark/Kim - 4-6, Kim SHITS on clark. Clark’s EVERYTHING lose to 5B. Clark’s Okizeme < Kim’s vortex pressures. Clark’s charge punch aka the “bowflex” loses to Hagetsuzan and he can’t really punish Kim for it. If Clark tries to wakeup L SABB, Kim has so much time to avoid it or he can do air j.CD then qcb+D. If clark blocks it, depending on what time the Kim player did the said setup, Kim can be +1 or 2, or neutral, so clark cant really do shit. I have never lost to clark with Kim unless I have low health. Kim wins the matchup big time.

Claw Iori/Clark - 3-7, FUCK THIS MATCHUP. /End Discussion

Iori/Kim - 5-5, Just depends on who gets the pressure first, they both have guard break potential and can punish one another rather quickly.

Fighting Kim, just block successfully and pressure him. Don’t let him mindfuck you so help you God. Kim’s yomi is godlike. You have to rush him but beware of ex flash kick, the startup is dirty(its like 3 frames or less) and he can EX super out of it for 40%.

Clark - TBA unless you use Kim or Kyo.

Claw Iori - Rush him, he has no good defensive options and his DP is VERY unsafe… which is why I use it about once every blue moon lol.

Sorry I should be more specific! I dont play any of those characters…I am looking for characters that counter those three in case I run into them in tournaments.

great info for general strategy vs the 3 though, thank you ^
So from what you posted, the answer I was looking for was that Kim is a character that counters clark (and the reasons why)

If it helps in answering my question, I can play kensou, king, shen, at a competitive level. Counters/Secondaries I am practicing are benimaru, saiki, hwa, raiden, ex kyo and vice.

alright, i had the exact same problems as you do now back when i tried to do the charge input like how i did in SF, extremely fast. but in kof if you do it to fast and your Ps or Ks aren’t being input at the same speed then your going to jump and the do P or K. so what i started to do is take advantage of kof 13 late input system, of which im pretty sure we’ve all seen used or have used before. with down-up charge moves i would charge the move then instead of going up at the hop speed i would use the jump speed instead. this means that your hold the up direction for about half a real-time second, give you enough time to press the your P or K. this also works with back-forward charge moves, al you have to do is hold forward as lond as you would up and press your P or K within that time period of the half second and your good to go. you will never drop a combo if your input in this fashion and you timing is correct.

Tokido leveled up really fast, holy shit.

No more SSBB talk in this thread or I start handing out infractions. Keep the thread on topic.

Yeah, he’s the best Japanese player I’ve seen. Dat Mr. K ain’t no joke. Not suprised Xaohai won though, I thought him or Poongko would win it all but I was mistaken.

wats kof i dont even kno nemor sry my guides r on indefinite hiatus until i figure out wat is this kof thing again i jus dunno
