KOF XII - Ralf thread

It’s easy to combo into. :karate:

Thanks so much for the info. I look forward to brutalizing my friends with Ralf and Kyo. Now I just need a 3rd main to complete my team.

After seeing more of New Ralf fully applied…I don’t think he’ll ever beat '98 Ralf in my mind for lovable scrubby simplicity, but XII Ralf is certainly interesting and I’m glad to see that he’s viable with the utility of new CD attack mechanics (very huge for Ralf because his CD attack always had kind of untapped potential, particularly in games where it was nice and fast like 2k2) and his new specials + much-improved old ones.

Stuff like BBH’s guard break loop really seem to finally approach the “true” essence of Ralf – slow, straight, hard punches that shatter girly-men guard and are often accompanied by random explosions. Ralf was going to be on my team pretty much by default before I even knew about his revamped moveset, but now I’m really glad to have him on board. The time is once again at hand for Ralf to trample, rampage, devour and roar his way through KOF’s various male models like the Tyrannosaurus rex he is.

True, but this is KoF, where ANYTHING can cause an explosion:

Headbutt? Explosion.
Slam your foe to the ground? Explosion.
Stomp the ground? Explosion.
Slam your foe to the ground with your legs? Rose-explosion.

Haha nice

Like Anakron said, you can combo into it now because it’s a lot faster. It’s not unblockable, but it does cause some weird guard crush on block that you unfortunately can’t follow up with anything but it does make it “safe” on block if you throw it out randomly, the opponent can’t do anything because of the guard crush. Also it has a shitload of invincibility which makes it great to use if someone throws a projectile or whiffs any sort of move relatively close to you.

Why o why did Ralf and Clark got insecure with Alex?? WHY?!

Good thing he now lost that annoying Ralf Kick though.

Um. What?

i think he’s referring their new super muscles, comparing them to Alex from street fighter 3.

Also, glad to see that Ralf’s got more options in XII than meets the eye.

Pardon me since I’m really new to this KOF, but based on what I’ve read Ralf’s only good because of his normals, so now he’s actually a lot more useful now.

And yes, I was referring to Alex. See the pants? The muscles? Damn ugly. They look awkward to me now.

I just picked up the game today and was practicing awhile with Ralf, but I ran into a little trouble trying the A version 4-hit Vulcan Punch link into standing D combo. No matter what I tried, I could not get this to link at all. I even tried it with counterhit turned on, which didn’t seem to add any more hitstun than normal hit, actually.

Are there any visual or audio cues I should be looking for that would help me time the D?

oh… so to stop his vulcan punch u just dun do anything? I thought u needed a command to cancel it just like andy’s hcf+k thing.

The more I hear this, the more I’m inclined to think it’s true :crybaby:

The link after Ralph’s 4-hit rapid punch does not work on the console version of KOF XII. This was most likely to prevent the use of a very difficult infinite combo that’s possible in the arcade version of the game. I think I’m going to make a mention of it in the Brady Game’s KOF XII guidebook thread.

This is what I expected the answer would be after I couldn’t get it to work. Even though the D no longer combos after the 4-hit vulcan, it does seem like it may be possible to use it to stuff a lot of attempted attacks from the opponent after the vulcan punch to lead into another combo.

Also, Ralf’s high damage CC combos might be the easiest to pull off out of anyone. The second one posted in the guidebook took me two tries to get, compared to the 15 minutes it took me to get Iori’s or Duo Lon’s for the first time. I think this will contribute to Ralf being perceived as a strong beginner character.

Shadowninja can you list some of his mid screen cc please?

From all the characters on the KOFXII roster. I was expecting Ralf will be the last ever character I’ll use.

I was wrong…

Now he’s one of my main. This also happened to me with Tager from BlazBlue… Lol how funny.

But here’s my combos.

Corner:
j.D > D > CD > qcb C > Jab jab jab attack (you know what I mean)

What I will say first is that the CC combos I have been practicing are from the official strategy guide, and everyone should consider picking it up as it is excellent. I don’t want to step on the authors’ toes too much by posting too much guide content, but I will post the CC I’ve been practicing, as I’m pretty sure it’s been known and in use since before the guide anyway. If either of the authors disapprove, please let me know and I will edit the content out.

The CC I’ve practiced is:

C (activates CC), d/f+A XX QCB+C, super, d/f+A XX QCB+C, f+C

Another variation you can do if you don’t quite have super yet but can build it during the combo is:

C (activates CC), d/f+A XX QCB+C, f+C XX QCB+C, dash forward CD XX (Vulcan Punch OR Super)

The guide also contains a third CC that is corner specific and easy to figure out, so I will refrain from posting it.

Ralf seems very powerful in this game, despite not having his usual gimmicks. He’s far more straight forward, and doesn’t seem to have any wasted moves. I’m really digging him

As for CC’s I’ve been using:

CC > d/f+A xx QCB+C, d/f+A, QCB+C, CD xx QCB+C, reset with standing D.

It’s only effective in the corner, The reset is nice for some nice mind game set ups.

I use some variations of the one above for more Midscreen CC’s.

I GOT IT ! FUCKING lame you cant do it in the home ver. because if you look closely ! it was a true infinite ! you could do S.d > Vulcan > S.d > Vulcan !!! man!@@ maybe SNK saw this and said NOOOO way we gotta pull this shit back and fix this , are we to blame >?>>>???

eh too bad you cant even do it once you know … WTF !

thanks Shadowninja that helps i will go get the guide tomorrow:nunchuck:
