KOF XI Thread :: Ver 2.0

Kyo XI is pretty easy if you have used him in previous games, the links that you want to learn in XI are:

d+B,d+A
d+B,C
C,f+B

d/f+D can be linked out of standing C, and even d+B,d+A and into special moves, namely qcf+C

the best way to QS out of kyo into another character is (starting move) link to f+B,qcf+C,hcb+C,QS

Combos are pretty much the same as always, all the old stuff works, like C,qcf+D,D, orochinagi, etc

good corner combo->

even if you don’t have meter to sc into his DM it still does about half life

to make orochinagi come out fast, after you perform the command, hold down the button you used to do it (say you did qcb, hcf+C) breifly, and let go to make the move come out fast to be able to use it in combos.

qcf+D,D hard to punish as ever from what I’ve seen, except you can be rolled behind while you do it if the person has meter of course. He resembles most other kyo in the older games, j.B is really good, etc

Pretty basic stuff that you may already know though, but it’s all i can really think about now unless you have specific questions, or if anyone has anything else to add.

so ive been playing for the past 2 hours
i like a lot so far

i think i wanna use iori and vanessa, dont know who else

Vanessa’s all you need.:lovin: Try Eiji, Shen, or good ol’ Gato.

qcf+D,D is safe if you delay the 2nd kick.

Gai Tendo isn’t console only.

Another thing that’s VITAL with Kyo is to learn his c.A/c.B -> close C link, it can lead to some crazy damage for something off a light hit.

meh not worht it in kof xi imo. Just leard to do cr.a, cr.b df+d cancel first hit into bullshit. leads to full stun wtih gatooo.

Yessir…its Asian!!!

I disagree about the cr.b to St. C link…it IS worth it IMO because its much easier to link than the cr.a to cr.b to DF+D to whatever stuff. I’ve seen people try to get fancy in tournaments/casals and do that fancy combo only to buffer a DP+C in the whole thing and then get royally fucked by my Duo Lon/Gato for trying to be fancy…

I use cr.b to St. C in combos…works the same way…

COUNTS AS A LOW…

Now cr. a to S.t C does NOT count as a low…thtas not worth it…cr.b to St.C is a lot better.

I ever use the c.rb to cr.a stuff…I’ve seen 95% of people miss the rekkas and buffer a DP with it…

So heres the risk- Go forthe stun as Kabuki says…or miss it and let someone like me go FOR THE KILL ON YOU…

You wont miss cr.b to st. C TRUST ME…its TOO EASY far more reliable in tournaments as a low combo. Its the people that try to be fancy in tournaments htat lose…

Sure now the key to ding the fancy combo is to return to neutral after cr.b, cr.a…but still I’ve highlighted the cons about it.

Really? He’s in the JP Arcade XI? I thought becyou had to unlock him his wasn’t tourney legal like Silber and Hayate.

KOFXI tournament rules-

Only people banned are the NGBC characters and Shion/Magaki…everyone else…IS LEGAL.

That’s EX Kyo right?

Lately I’ve been watching matches from Ryuuko Tour 2007. Makes me want to assemble a second team. I’m thinking Vanessa/Kula/Gai. I just haven’t decided on who’s leader.

EX Kyo is banned…he’s NGBC Kyo…

For that team you could have Kula but Kula doesnt really need Leader…sure it makesher better but shes solid without it…

Vanessa would probably need the Leader.

Is it all of the same stuff that’s in the Japanese release?

I’m trying to see how vital it is for me to get the US version, seeing as I already have the Japanese version.

I’ll probably pick it up anyway, just because of not having to mess with Swap Magic, but I want to see if any bugs/problems crop up like in the PAL version.

I’m still skeptic about the “animated cut scenes” part.

Everything else Are_you_okay?! mentioned was already in the JP release.

I’ve read past discussions on this game and I got the impression that King was low tier. If I heard right, why is King not good in this game?

She lost a lot of priority, her fireballs are pretty slow, she has no command grab, and they took away qcb p. She doesn’t do a lot of damage and she needs a skill bar in order to link a super to do any real damage.

Not to forget to mention, her LDM sucks , it’s slow and can be mostly avoided

King is not that great.

any character is good if you know how to use them properly, as for king, she is a good solid character i say:wink:

Alright, so this how I see king, still not as and prolly never will be as good as 99 or 2k, she does have some tricks. Canceling an attack to slide into a move is something from 2k3 and is still useful. She also as an unblockable that is difficult to pull off, but does lead into a decent combo or a good one if you have skill bar and a super, low fireball from full screen, dash behind and hh hk. It can be used, but it’s difficult to find the situation. Her d. hp and standing hk are still good as AA, and super canceling off of trapshot does decent damage, but again, you need a skill bar and a super. Her jump E is still solid as is her j. lk for Air2air. Standing E is still decent and can be canceled mid animation, so it has it’s uses. Fortunately, there are a lot of instances you can double strike, particularly when you are full screen, which is something that she does a lot, send you full screen. She does have a strange ability to play against a striker character under pressure with the exception of a few, has a hard time against distance/patient/zoning characters, and will polly play run away all day against throwers, but if they close, she’s screwed. She is still in the lower tier list, but has her uses. I like her, but I think Kensou is a better version of her. The one thing that I love about KOF in general is even though there is a tier list and it is kinda stark at times, the game is relatively balanced.

Edit: BTW, I encourage everyone to play who they like. Honestly, I like playing random. I might land on some characters that I don’t like, but the funny thing about this game is that when people just tier list all day and ignore the lower tiers, they wind up losing to them because they don’t know how to play against them.
