KOF Team Construction

Looks fine to me.

Andy’s good for feeling out your opponent, plus he doesn’t need much super bar. From what I’ve seen, you can do basic zoning with his fireball and sweeping sloppy jumps/hops with a crouching D. If you have experience with shotos in CVS2, you’ll be fine, but don’t forget his other moves like the Elbow Rush for punishing.

K’ and Shen use both drive and super meter really well, with Shen being a bit better with super for naked Bionic Arm/Falcon Punch punishes. Down the line, if you decide to stick with the team, do learn their hd combos.

Thanks, I have been trying to learn the HD combos a little bit but I haven’t put too much work in on them yet because I’m still just trying to get a feel for the game in general.

I was also thinking of trying something along the lines of K’/Kula/Shen, not really sure if that would be better or not though.

That second team is pretty much tier whoring in arcade version, and still a pretty powerful team. In KOF, I advocate most players to have the freedom to mess around with as many characters as possible rather than letting them think they should focus on a select few. There might be something new to find out about your style or characters by playing other characters and fully learning the system, be it a little portion at a time.

So yeah, both team configurations you’ve chosen are really solid so go for it.

Cool, thank you. I will def be experimenting with other characters, there are a lot that I am interested in, trying to get my main squad finalized too though.

Also, I have no problem tier whoring, I actually prefer to call it tier pimping though, I make those bitchz work for me!

I started out with Athena/Elizabeth/Leona, but I switched out Leona for King quite fast. Didn’t really like her playstyle, and King seemed quite easy and effective. Currently using King as anchor, just because she’s usually able to save my ass, and I can do longer combos with her :stuck_out_tongue: But I see a lot of people suggesting having her on point, so I might try that.

Also dropping Athena, probably, even though I really felt like playing her at first. Can get some wins with her by basic zoning and a few simple combos, but I’m not really feeling the character overall. But like Laban suggested, I’ll play around with everyone, because I have a problem of not being able to stick to one/the same chars anyway  There are so many interesting characters that I want to try, so I’ll probably keep myself busy for a while…
Elizabeth is staying for sure, and probably King as well, so other char suggestions are always welcome

Too bad I won’t be able to try the whole cast for quite some time, due to psn eu delays :<

Right now I’m working on a Athena/Leona/Elisabeth team, with Kyo occasionally subbed in for Leona. Still trying to figure out a proper order - Athena can fit in just about anywhere, but I’ve noticed that Lis seems to be better in the middle than at the end. Leona, I’m not sure if she makes a good anchor or not, I tended to keep her towards the middle until recently, and when I play Kyo he tends to open up my team.

I like having Athena second or third so she has meter to blow on EX Fireballs and escape routes in the corner.

Athena/Yuri/Iori is working out super awesome for me right now. Athena is super annoying and doesn’t need meter to BE super annoying. But if she lands a good hit, she has decent damage options with meter.

Yuri is just a BEAST in this game, if I have full drive and 3 meter because of athena, that’s usually a guaranteed kill.

Iori is cleanup and does his job okay. Seriously, anyone can be in the third spot right now because Yuri is just… too crazy. My third spot guy just jumps around and presses buttons and lands random hits because of the lead Yuri built.

After playing around a bit I think I’ve settled on 1: K/Ash, 2: Terry, 3: Iori. K for obvious reasons, but I’m finding Ash fun too so I’ll swap him in if I want a more zoning/general annoyance character on point, I like Terry with some meter b/c his Bnb’s are pretty easy to pull off, and then Iori seems great with tons of meter. Only issue is Iori is by FAR my crappiest character and I gotta put in some work esp since the last charter (I think) should be your best.

Kinda want to try EX Iori since I did just drop $5 on him…how is he on point?

My current team is Kyo, Andy & Kim

  1. Kyo’s combos are quite easy to pull off, I like using him first to test my opponent’s defense.

  2. Andy has some great anti-air attacks, he’s much better than Terry in this game if you ask me, he seems to have a better recovery. He’s great at zoning and rushing.

  3. I just go nuts with Kim, I like to be aggressive with him and try not to let my opponents fire projectiles at me. I can perform some crazy combos at the end if I’ve gained enough meter with the 2 previous fighters.

EX Iori is good anywhere just as he was in past games. He’s worth it.

Yeah, I have to agree. Although 99% of the time I have Yuri as my 3rd… wow, she is amazing. I am very glad I decided to play her as my “main” instead of Kula this go-round. Yuri is just more fun for me overall.

Still toying around with Team 2Cute (Athena/Yuri/Kula), but right now my main team is still Hwa/Leona/Yuri. Finally kinda’ getting a general strategy around them as well - I try to use very little meter with Hwa unless I see an opportunity I can’t pass up (killing their point, possibly killing their second), and play a poking/rushdown style with him in the meantime.

I play Leona pretty defensively/zoning but start using meter more for hit-confirm supers and ex’s if need be, and get more aggressive if I see the opponent isn’t really doing well against her. Generally I save my drive/meter for Yuri, if worse comes to worse. Right now, my Leona’s been able to handle things pretty well and leave plenty of meter for Yuri if she can’t get the job done.

Then, Yuri is… well, Yuri. With meter/drive.

I am considering switching in Athena for Hwa in that team, as she probably would build meter faster and frustrate the opponent with zoning, but my Athena is still asstastic and super-basic, even compared to my “slightly better than ass” other characters… and I like Hwa way too damn much, lol. But, she does well in the point or second slot, it seems. Tried her on anchor, wasn’t a fan of it.

As an aside, I was playing Ash again for the first time in a while yesterday against an online friend and I forgot how enjoyable he can be too. Is there something… different about charge characters in KoF that’s helping me enjoy them more? In SF the only charger guy I really enjoy is Honda, and in general I’ve always hated charge moves (I used to bitch a lot in older KoF’s when they would switch Robert’s moveset from QC’s to charges between games, lol).

I’m not sure if it’s the way KoF’s input system handles charges, me liking the characters themselves (probably has a hell of a lot to do with it, Leona/Ash are big favorites of mine), or me playing arcade stick now… but I’m feeling a lot more comfortable with Leona than I imagine I should, lol.

What, do you guys think of this team order. Duo lon/saiki/kyo.

That’s pretty good.

Wanna know what you guys think is the best order for these two teams. Thanks.

Shen/King/Kula

Shen/Terry/Kula

I’m still not too experienced yet, as I don’t get to play enough as I should, but my team is Leona/Yuri/King.

To be honest, Leona is just GREAT on point. I’ve actually bodied whole teams with her, because of how she works. Mind you, I’m not good at linking her stuff up **YET, **but just her normals and usage of her moves can get you in and out of almost any situation, easy. Yuri would probably be more useful as an anchor, but I can’t use her all that well yet.

Putting her as secondary and she still does a lot of good work. Fact that you can link her into almost anything makes her a threat. And her having too many bars makes her something that you don’t want to just run into. Not to mention her divekicks are so Godlike. I literally just spammed divekicks on someone and they got shut down.

Lastly is King. King is probably the only character I’m moderately decent at and one hit with her leaves me taking 40 to 70% of your HP bar, depending on how many bars I have and if I have a HD bar up. So putting her as last defenses means their whole team has to be careful or I’ll just run right through them. She’s excellent for zoning and linking into her slide kick or trapshot is pretty fun/easy to do. Once I have that trapshot, the rest is history if I have and bars.

I’d swap Kula and Shen in both teams, just because Shen thrives with drive AND super bar and having him start first leaves him with neither. Even then, he has good ways of building meter (that punch feint, swatting fireballs) so if you’re comfortable with him on point go for it.

I’d say it depends on how good your Shen is.

Played some more matches yesterday, and I feel the same way - Leona seems to do great on point for me.

Leona gets a ton out of having meter + drive (More damage off of straight 50/50s which is pretty much her main game besides poking and a real reversal) but it’s nice not having to worry about a smart opponent guessing right against an overhead and punishing with an HD combo.

To be fair, with my team, even with Leona having good meter and such… Having Yuri as your anchor is a flat out threat. Her with all meters and drive is probably worse off than me having King or Leona as anchor.
