what would be the best order to go with?
currently Ralf is my best character and I like having him at first, he wrecks shit up and doesnt need that much meter to do good damage, but i tried switching the order yesterday to King/Ash/Ralf and it just felt better having Ralf as anchor coz I have so much trouble opening people up with King as opposed to Ralf with his amazing normals and j.D and j.CD, plus I heard that King is a really good Battery and is best being on point.
so…help?
I’m also learning Vice and Liz coz theyre loads of fun and might have a second team, where do they fit best?
Just mess around with the positions. But, what I recommend with King is rather than trying to open up people, try spacing against them and forcing them to make errors. Then you capitalize on their mistakes quite well, that’s how King is designed.
So I need a 3rd team member, So far my team consists of K,Vice, but I need a last character, I have no clue on who to pick. Anyone got any ideas on who works well with these two characters?
A couple of things I noticed while playing this game;
HWA Jai > Joe higashi: I never thought I would say that, ever but in this game its soo true. I was playing against Wolfkrone (my rival in KoF games) and he usually plays King / Robert /Ryo or Kyo. After Several Matches, he switched to Jai and I was not prepared, last time I even faced Jai was in Fatal Fury. After our session, the very next day I went to practice and played Jai. OMG this dude is freaking awesome, especially at point. he builds meter crazy. 4 ~5 Backdashes > Dragon Tail [Air version] is one bar! I didnt think Jai would be that good. If any of you are playing Jai, hes excellent at point (for meter building and rush down purposes).
Clark is crazy good: Clark is soo good in this game. I normally play Grapplers in Capcom games and shoto (or motion) like characters in SNK games, however I mess around with Goro and Raiden every once and a while. Brazil was my main team in 94 so I still play that team every KoF game (NOTE: when I say Brazil I mean ikari warriors and Hiedarn not Leona. Cant stand Leona) that has them in it or just Ralf and Clark. In 12, Goro was the truth, In arcade version of 13, Raiden is, but now I think Clark is. he has soo many ways to get in now. His gatling Attack move is fast while the light version is safe and the EX version is invul. to projectiles, plus can be juggled, His Light Super Argentina Backbreaker has auto guard, meaning it can take a hit and still grab you (Goro had auto guards on both Kumotsukaminage [AA grab] & Kirikabugaeshi [OTG grab] in KoF 12, but he cant do that any more) and his Down-Forward + A is great as an AA. With meter, Clark is DEADLY. he makes a good middle man, but a great anchor.
That’s about it. Anothing I noticed is that people are zoning with Robert online. Wow. Really? it never works. This isnt Street Fighter.
You got powerful anchors like Shen/Takuma/Kyo/Iori.
Robert is a bit odd to me because I never got a real handle on him. I don’t expect people who never played him to know what to do. He seems like a well rounded character like Ryu. But hanging back and tossing FBs won’t cut it no matter which character you play. Anyway, this is what I posted on DC regarding Robert since I wanted to get better with him:
honestly Robert is what Dan would be if he ever gotten treated right as a normal character and not a joke character in Capcom. I say this because you can sit 30 people in a room and ask them all if Robert plays like Ryu or Ken, and I can bet that it would be split down the middle. With that being said, Robert is a mid range fighter, however he excels at rush down. You can really mind F*** some one with Robert by rushing them down. his whirlwind kick is safe on block, well the light version is and it can apply pressure. I use to use his Dive kick since it was safe in every KoF game, except this one. so I know use his Shippuukyaku kick (the whirl wind kick).
up close people expect you to DP so throw them off with his command grab. I didnt know till recently that the Ryuuren: Gen’eikyaku(half circle forward and any Kick) is unblockable actually in other games it wasnt even a command throw but an attack that can be blocked.I use
that move now up close for free hits. I never use it as a counter but It keeps people honest. is he going to DP me, grab me or…
…use the B+D air attack on me? That damn attack is soo good. Its just like iori’s but works faster, especially if your hyper hopping a crouching opponent. I use that a lot to open them up. Also you can use it in the corner to do a Tri jump, in case you get in trouble in the corner.
To summerize. Robert is a good mid range fighter, but excels as a rush down one.
I’ve been running Ash/Iori/Kim. Ash leads off to build meter and troll people to death. Iori comes in and has a bunch of ways to set up Maiden Mashers, though he generally only uses meter and drive in drips and drabs. Kim I like because of his flash kick, his knockdowns, and a nifty little neomax setup I stumbled on the first time I took him into training.
Always liked KoF, but never really got hardcore into it. I’m thinking of running the team in my sig (Terry/???/Kyo) with the obvious ??? being a real hard place for me rgiht now. I love Terry; he’s the character I always build a team around when I screwed around in KoF, so I’m gonna make sure he’s back in action. Kyo just seems stupidly solid for me to not pick up.
The mid spot is hard. I thought King, Iori, or maybe switching in a pixie or grappler. The first two are other favorites, but I dunno how well the team would gel. Any advice? I’m thinking that Terry will play a role of the character never in need of meter (is he different now? will I need to neomax cancel or get huge hd combos for him?) and Kyo will play the role I’ve always liked him in - zoning you like a motherfucker. Idunno though. Halp.
Terry is pretty good with HD bar and has pretty good combo extension with EX Burn Knuckle and utilities with EX Power Wave and EX Crack Shoot so I would like to put him second. Terry used to be really good on point since he didn’t need meter. XIII is a different game so his damage without any meters is very small.
Just find out what you want to do for your second character. Want to zone more or grapple more? All you need for your last character finding something either you want to do or you want to learn to expand your understanding of the game.
Thanks for your reply, man. I remember being able to do well with Terry without meter, but if he’s more of a meter eater now that’s alright. I’m still not even Day 1 with this game so I’m glad to have some input.
I feel like I might switch Kyo out to point and zone with him and pop Daimon or Raiden in the back. Or maybe athena and play as lame as possible to save meters for Terry and Kyo? I dunno, might have to have multiple teams already lol.
Me, I eventually want to be kinda like how Dakou runs random select on GGPO for 98 and play most of the cast competently. So instead of focusing too much on “winning” focus more on “learning.” So try out many teams, put anyone anywhere, see what certain characters lack and what are their strengths, see what are “your” personal strengths with certain characters in certain positions. So yeah, play everyone. If you have people to play online well (kinda rare) or people offline willing to learn to play with you, then feel free to just choose what you want.
Eventually you’ll find what you like then whittle down your preferred team to stomp people in tournaments. Mine is developing to be EX Kyo (based off the information provided), EX Iori, then a third spot which would be between Daimon/Benimaru/Duo Lon/Mai/Terry/Ralf. The reason being is that I need a dominating team that fits my style which in previous games is Rekka Kyo and EX Iori does everything for me and all of his bnbs end in a way to give me a safer, better safe-hop mix-up on oki. Then the third character (not necessarily third position) if flexible for either character match ups or to counter pick against particular player styles.
So at this stage in the game for you, I would recommend trying everything and trying to understand everything. Even if you don’t ultimately commit to a character in the end, you’ll generally see what to expect when you play against that character.
terry is still good 1st, he is a momentum/pressure/guard break/suffocation character which are always a good choice for 1st. he can build a lot of bar just from making ppl block his strings. so even though his meterless is low, he will gain meter quickly for himself and the rest of the team. it really depends on the rest of your team as well. if you have some other battery that is a clear choice then of course put him 2nd, but there is nothing wrong w/ terry on point either. the same goes for someone like duolon…he does very little damage, even with meter he has to spend more to get the same damage as other characters, but he is a momentum character and many japanese players have been successful with duolon on point.
Duo Lon’s damage with meter isn’t bad. He does around 350 or so with 1 bar, which is about average or above average, and he doesn’t even lose any momentum from it.
I really like King, but I’d rather not start off my KOF fighting game career with a weak character. I wanted to play her on point, too. I’m playing K’/Kula and wanted King in front.
Where would you put Terry if paired with K’/Kula? Looking at other options besides King if she isn’t strong.
EX Iori and EX Kyo? I’d doing something similar with Duo Lon/EX Kyo/EX Iori. Each of them are pretty versatile(Duo Lon a bit less) but I do like their offensive capabilities. I was thinking about placing EX Kyo last because he’s one of my favorite characters but EX Iori’s just has more options with the addition of a command grab. Ultimately I’d like for them to be my best team. Still going to work on Andy/K’/Kyo and might have Robert/XIII Iori/Takuma on the back burner for kicks.
King isn’t weak. Try running K’/King/Kula and see how that works.
^ Thanks. I’ve taken quite a liking to Terry from getting some practice in with him just now, so I still would like to know where he’d best fit with K’/Kula
So after playing some rounds online against someone last night (where I won the first, then got OCV’d twice by his Shen, then things eventually evened out somewhat but he was probably being merciful on me lol), I found myself liking my team of Hwa/Leona/Yuri. Still working on “getting” HD combos or even just super-cancels consistently, but I know that’s going to be a continuous work-in-progress (and a lot of time in mission and practice mode) with each character.
…yet I still want to plat Athena… and Kula… and Terry… EX Iori… Mature…
Dammit I want to play the whole roster lol.
EDIT: All in all though, I like that team the most right now. Hwa and Leona are somewhat interchangeable, since I really try to save all my drive for Yuri. My Leona’s pretty lame right now still, working on getting those charge drive-cancels under control.
